This is one of the few pages sketches I wanted to show you guys and talk a little bit more about.
On the left, is page 12, which I posted earlier today and on the right is page 13, which I'll be (finishing and) posting next week.
What I really wanted to show you guys about these pages is how I changed their layout rather late in production. Normally when I have a layout in place on these paper sketches, I follow through with them very accurately, but this sequence just felt too cramped. I wanted to show the whole of panel 2 in page 13, but the first panel not only felt like it was put there haphazardly, but it also broke the feeling and composition in a poor manner. Whereas, page 12 just felt too bland aside from Wallace and Nathan's reunion.
The panel of Wallace's mom inquiring about Nathan being Wallace's boyfriend was one that I pondered about fitting on the end of page 12 or the begginning of page 13. Fortunately, as I sketched page 12, I noticed I could sum up the couple last panels into more narrow versions in a single row (and also save on backgrounds) and fit that infamous panel on the end as a shorter, wider one.
In the end, it worked out pretty well and will gives me more room to maneuver things around in Page 13.
The idea for it is to have a crowd of people in panel 2 (which is gonna become panel 1) and then replicate the same picture in panel 4, but with the crowd reacting accordingly. It already bothered me that the copy of the panel was narrow, but I simply couldn't wrap my head on how I'd fit this whole sequence in two pages before. Luckly, after some 'rest' from it, I was able to reach a satisfactory answer.
I don't know if you guys find these little insights and sketches interesting, but I certainly do hope you guys do. :)
