But when faced with a challenge he refers to 'pulling the girls pigtails to get their attention' type treatment. (He can never leave Axel alone even if it is to tease him). Or in this case trying to 'buy' him off. I definitely think he's interested in him. He might deny it because he truly doesn't normally get that wrapped up in any of the girls he dates/sleeps with. But we've already seen him try to be sweet to Axel buying him food, etc. And that blush with his sister, I think he's got quite the crush.

I mostly mean why was he even open to being friends with Onyx (who was kinda sad and pathetic on the surface when they met) but was immediately hostile toward Axel even though it’s pretty clear to me that Axel is doing his best in an awful situation. Like, if Kai has a problem with people who are down on their luck and struggling, Onyx would have initially fit that description even if he wasn’t involved in gang activity like Axel, if that makes sense. So unless Kai was already biased against Axel from stories Onyx told him (which I don’t think has been confirmed but is possible), it seems like a double standard??

Sure, we know Axel is a shithead, but the problem he’s in with Kai’s gang isn’t incredibly clear, and Kai seems to at least be aware of the fact that the gang isn’t really a great thing - since he put on a show and didn’t severely hurt Axel like he could have. Like, why doesn’t he think Onyx is also pathetic?? I don’t get it. He seems borderline normal except when it comes to Axel.
