Update schedule for finale

Hey ya'll, I just wanted to post a quick poll here to see what people prefer.

Last time we had a huge scene like this, I did a bulk update style of multiple updates at once every 2-3 weeks or so. I was thinking about doing this again. However, I think this will be less consistent than 1 page a week, though it will flow way better. Which would you prefer, given the choice? I'm just gauging interest and have no idea which I'm going to stick with.

Comments

I'll echo a comment I saw above: I've seen a lot of comics die when they stop updating regularly. That hasn't happened here of course, but it also usually happens as those comics are entering their final arc, and now that's the case here too (I assume). Then there's the fact that you make so much stuff beyond this comic. Ultimately it's your call, and there's a lot of trust here, both from me and everyone else. But I need to vote weekly.

Observant Fox

The people on my forum often express a sense that big action scenes would work better getting a sequence in a row rather than waiting on every individual move.

Matthew Dunne

i think bulk updates will pack more of a punch dramatically.

Mickey Schwartz

I'm going to agree with this--over the past 20 years I've been following comics online, a consistent schedule seems to be the difference between a webcomic that goes on and one that dies. Given the long run of this comic, I do think, unlike the comics I've seen die, it will complete regardless...but it's entirely possible the viewership and patreon income will become far more unreliable as readers vanish for longer than the gap between updates, and then come back to splurge. So what might have been 3 months income with regular updates falls to 1 or something. Same number of pages, less income for it. So I think the bulk update model is potentially "dangerous" for artists financially. There is something to be said for consistency on a set schedule. We as readers will ultimately benefit more if artist income doesn't go kaplooey even if it seems like "bulk updates" will flow better and be more fun.

Bulk Bulk Update. Finish the comic and post it all in a few years.

MisoSquared

We've all been with you on this comic for many years! I definitely don't mind waiting longer between updates, as long as you're making the version of this story that you're most proud to put your name on. Quality food takes time to cook.

Jennie

Chiming in to agree that your preference matters most, you'll have the best sense of whether the pacing will be improved by delaying the update & I trust your call. As long as I get to enjoy the pages I won't be upset by the timing

Nathan Klein

The switch to multipage updates is when most webcomics tend to die: it just gets too easy to delay the next update forever I guess. And the benefits of better flow usually don’t outweigh the downsides of breaking the weekly ritual for the readers. But many rules don’t apply to KBSD, and multi-page updates have worked for you in the past, so please just choose the rhythm you are most comfortable with as a creator!

Ivan Bushmarinov

if the options make a difference in how you feel about the resulting quality, choose quality (i assume that means batches)

Owen Hart

Whatever you want to do is fine!

Karnevale

I personally enjoy weekly updates but, as others have expressed, whatever best suits your workflow really!

Jason Blackthorn

Whatever you want to do bestie. But for input, the comic is best for me when I remember it on a tab on my phone every couple of weeks and there's 3+ pages to dig through, rather than 1 or 2

Ian R

I'm for bulk updates that keep the story flow!!

Penelope Coad

Definitely willing to wait! I know with reading manga sometimes people get caught up in analyzing one fraction of the larger picture (and that discourse drives me nuts at times). Regardless, whatever way it gets put out I’ll be excited to read it!!!!

Roger

As much as I'd like weekly updates, the waiting would probably drive me mad. So, I voted bulk updates.

Alan

I voted for weekly updates, but I'm honestly fine with whatever is better for you and the comic

4shi4

Whatever you think is best for the cadence of the telling of the story. Might be one, might be the other, might be one then the other. A warning that there's a gap coming up helps a lot though.

Alan Fleming

me straight up bulking it (I ate too much at new years)

bluto

lo, the patient shall prevail
