2026-02-23 17:15:50 +0000 UTCI can get that when thinking of it as a career high, better to take him out at a high point while still having fans than let them see when he starts to decline. Didn't know about breeding fees lol thats crazy but I get it now. Oju going 11 years bro really the boomer of horse still dusting them lol that'd be crazy to see an Uma of that, just a grown woman in the crowd of younger umas still racing with them. Yeah I heard about the Dicta thing that's some crazy bad luck, but the fact that he still pushed it is even crazier. I love the way this show added the dramatic touch to Tama's spurt, can't wait to react to the real races and see him go off with oguri

2026-02-23 01:23:17 +0000 UTClol Im all good with the essays especially when it makes the show more cooler and detailed. Dicta really stood out A LOT with this training session along with the race. She might actually be the highlight character of the race even without being the leading racer just off the fact of her loving the competition and pulling it out of Oguri, That was a fire part for DIcta. That makes sense on the injury too because it isnt as scary for humans having one nostril covered compared to it being one eye, but on a horse it's probably detrimental only being able to breathe from one nostril. Bruuh that's what makes this show so cool they watch the real races and made it so dramatic of it being a countdown leading to Oguri. The way they dramatized everything is on point! That countdown part was so hard. I did get info on Tamamo's retirement from another comment. His owner actually got old and wanting to breed and see his kids race before he passed away. So once again the show did it pretty accurate, at least based off how the story ends for Tamamo.

2026-02-22 23:57:27 +0000 UTCAwww man so it's was his owner's old age is why Tama withdrew from racing. Hopefully he got his goal of seeing the kids race before passing away, tragic we won't have Tamamo after this race

2026-02-22 23:13:23 +0000 UTC------------------------------------ Tamamo’s health When moving to the Nakayama Racetrack, the poorer water quality in the area had a severe impact on Tamamo’s diet and health. He even had to be given a liquid diet for extra nutrients because he didn’t eat enough. ------------------------------------ Tamamo’s retirement The reason for Tamamo’s retirement in real life was because ending a career on a high point is good for increasing breeding fees and demand. ------------------------------------ Horse career lengths Horses often have short careers, with some even retiring at the end of their four year old year. There are exceptions though, with a major example being Oju Chosan. He retired at the age of 11, and was still good enough to win a G1 in his last year. ------------------------------------ Komiyama and Belno’s conversation Two members of Oguri and Tamamo’s training staff became friends, and Tamamo’s gave advice about changing Oguri’s diet. The line about helping her enemy also came from real life. ------------------------------------ Dicta hitting the gate In real life, Soccer Boy got a bloody nose. While this might not sound too bad, this is actually pretty serious for horses as they only breathe through their noses. ------------------------------------ Tamamo starting her spurt early In real life, Tamamo was known for doing his own thing and ignoring the general flow of the race. Starting a spurt early like this takes a lot of stamina as it requires the horse to maintain high speeds for a long time.

2026-02-22 20:47:07 +0000 UTCJust to clarify, the second owner did not buy both of them. He bought Tamamo and his two siblings, while the mother was sent elsewhere and died due to poor care. Apparently the Tamamo's mother was stressed around people other than the original owner, and developed intestinal issues as a result.

2026-02-21 03:50:59 +0000 UTCThe real reason Tamamo Cross left the Twinkle Series was to spend time with her dying old man but the actual horse was pulled out because the owner wanted to make Tamamo Cross a breeding stallion and watch his grandkids race before he died.

2026-02-20 20:32:15 +0000 UTCGreat way to start the Arima Kinen arc. Some notes: 1. The “Old man” that Tamamo Cross talks with was his second owner. The first owner went bankrupt and was forced to sell off all his mares, including Tamamo Cross’s mother, Green Chateau. An old friend of the owner bought Tamamo Cross at a dirt cheap price and promised to look after the two of them. Tamamo Cross (as shown repeatedly) had a very rough start and only took off in the last year of the career. In 1988, his owner became deathly ill and the decision was made to retire Tamamo Cross at the end of the year in hopes that the owner might see the first of his best friend’s horse’s children. Unfortunately, Cingray (and Cygames in general) has generally tried to avoid saying “This uma retired to begin breeding duties” so they make up plots to explain these decisions. Any time in the future where you encounter umas saying they are retiring despite looking completely fine, the reason is likely “to begin breeding duties”. 2. While Oguri Cap and Tamamo Cross IRL didn’t actually like each other that much (Tamamo was a very violent and temperamental horse), their support staff (grooms, stable hands, veterinarians, etc) became very good friends, frequently going out to lunch. During the Autumn Tenno Sho, Oguri’s staff shared that Oguri had a problem with putting on too much weight. Tamamo’s staff would observer that they were using cheap feed with lots of fattening agents in them (basically eating junk food). Instead, they should use higher quality feed to help avoid Oguri’s weight gain. Later, Tamamo’s staff would admit that that little tip might have given them the race. This is shown when Komiyama shares about her carefully created nutritional diet she has Tamamo eat.

2026-02-20 19:12:57 +0000 UTCSo, a few points from me. I will try not to drop another essay though, aha. First, the scene with Oguri and Dicta training at night is probably my favourite scene outside of the races. Oguri is traditionally known for fighting Tamamo, Super Creek, and Inari One (I'm fine name dropping her here, since you have watched the season finale now as of these uploads.) So I love that it's one of Oguri's lesser known rivals that pulled the Zone out of her. Additionally, I love how it recontextualised Dicta. For context, that race where she first had her Zone happens before the Autumn Tenno Sho. So on a rewatch you get a new side of Dicta. And to talk quickly about the Zone again, I agree with most of your thoughts you said during the episode. I do still think it is a physical force, mostly because of what is said in episode 22, so I'll talk more on it there. But I agree ego is a huge part of it, at least to unlock it in the first place and use it. Next, the scene with Rudolf. As you said, it's a passing of the torch. But the reason this scene is even here, is because Oguri's jockey was for this race was different than usual. Oguri's jockey in the 1988 Arima Kinen was Yukio Okabe, who was the main jockey of Symboli Rudolf. So it is both a literal, and metaphorical passing of the torch, but in the terms of the narrative, it's Rudolf realising her job is finished. She's been trying to reignite the competitiveness in the racing scene that fizzled out after she retired, and this is the moment I think where she realises she has achieved her goal. A quick note about Dicta's injury: While it sucks, the series does follow real life as you know, so it has to be included. Although in the real race, the horse suffered a nosebleed instead of a head wound. Horses only breathe through their nose, so it was changed to a head wound bleeding over her eye to reflect the same level of danger. And finally, about Tamamo: I won't pretend to know why Tamamo retires after this race, someone else could probably explain that better than me, so I'll just say a few details here that I like. First, when she says "Seeya in ten seconds", in the real race, from the moment Tama took off, to the moment the horse pulled alongside Oguri, took exactly ten seconds. And second, Tamamo's monologue before turning on her Zone. When she says "You're up against Tamamo Cross!", in the manga, it's written in a way that it reads "You're up against the strongest!", but still says her name. It's a small detail of the Japanese language that can't really translate to the anime format, or with subtitles, so I wanted to mention it. But on that note, I'll say that Tamamo's jockey, Katsumi Minai, later rode Narita Brian (who ended up winning the classic triple crown), but Minai still claims the strongest horse he ever rode was Tamamo Cross. That's all for my essay this time. Time to watch the next two episodes, which I know you gonna enjoy. :)
