Cinderella Gray Episode 14-15

Cour 2 begins! With Fujimasa March. Following her lost at the Tokai Derby she gets challenged by her biggest hater. She has a chance to bounce back in her next race! & a new coach is on the scene named Fumino Nase and her "miracle" horse Super Creek! Somehow making it into the Kikuka Sho she's up against Yaeno in a long distance 3000m race!

Faacts! Yeah her long and smooth strides is the most noticeable thing. The details are really fire on this, it truly is long distance is more controlled on their running and stamina and then having a burst when it's time to dust them. I'm feeling like this might be something Oguri would have to strategize against since she's more of a sprinting type, hopefully they can get into a race together. These different race types are making the show more and more interesting!

Love that they animated everyone having a different style, with Super Creek's stride being very wide compared to Yaeno's. Long distance running favors longer strides as you can cover more distance with less stamina each step, so I'm glad they incorporated this as a nod to real life running!

Wait That actually makes perfect sense! They're the two that kind of disturb the norm when I comes to racing causing this big hype. Oh wow so that finale race of Cour 1 is just the beginning of the elite races. I'm definitely noticing the difference in cour 2 as all these characters are getting unpacked it makes the stakes feel a lot higher knowing everyone on the field while still rooting for Oguri too! And thank you thank you for that last part! I greatly appreciate that, really keeps me motivated on future recordings!

Super Creek - AKA "Take Yukata's wife." Always found that funny since the real horse was male. Creek had really fragile legs which kept the horse from running in the Derby, which I would honestly say is probably what endeared Take to Creek. Side Note, I know Take keeps up with the Umamusume franchise at least on a surface level. I wonder what his reaction to seeing a genderbend of himself was? Lol

Details for episode 14 -------------------------------------- March’s side story The first half of episode 14 is an adaptation of a gaiden (side story) chapter about March, called “The mermaid left behind”. There are some other gaiden chapters for later in the story. -------------------------------------- March’s wins against Oguri 6:39 I think that this is a mistranslation, as it more directly translates to a statement that she has beaten Oguri before without any mention of how many times it happened. In real life, March beat Oguri twice, being the only one to beat Oguri in Kasamatsu. -------------------------------------- Tokai Derby age restriction 7:53 The Tokai Derby is for classic year (3 year old) racers only, so she cannot run in it again. -------------------------------------- Gifu Okan Sho The reason why they are wearing their outfits despite it not being a G1 is because the race was a major race in the regionals, which sort of makes it like a regional equivalent. I can’t find any more details because the race stopped being held some time in the 90’s. -------------------------------------- The 3 big fall races 29:45 The three races here make up the Fall Triple Crown, while the three big races mentioned before are the Classic Triple Crown. The Fall Triple Crown does not have an age cap, which is why Oguri and Tama can run together despite the age difference. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Details for episode 15 -------------------------------------- Creek’s Trainer Creek’s trainer, Nase Fumino, is based on the real life jockey Take Yutaka. Nase is just Take with the Hiragana shifted one character over, and the kanji for Fumino and Yutaka can both be read as Bunno when used in a name. Nase is shown to be a new young prodigy with a father also in the same field, similar to Take at the time. Take was 19 when he won the Kikuka Sho with Creek. Take is generally considered to be one of the greatest Japanese jockeys of all time, with numerous records and accomplishments. According to his Japanese Wikipedia page, he has 127 G1 wins, received the JRA jockey of the year award 9 times, has the most wins in JRA history, etc. Despite being 56 years old, he still races and wins G1s. Super Creek was a very important horse to Take, being the first one that he had a deep attachment to and the one he thinks had the biggest impact on him. There is a very famous story of how they met. When Take was choosing a horse to ride for the Kikuka Sho, Creek went up and bit his sleeve. As such, it is said that Creek chose him instead of the other way around. -------------------------------------- The Japan Cup The Japan Cup is not the Derby, but an international race with top level horses from around the world. It is one of the most highly rated races, being the number 1 rated race of 2025. -------------------------------------- Toni Bianca The real horse’s name is Tony Bin. He is the father of many major characters that appear in the series, including the main character of the movie. -------------------------------------- Languages In the manga, the international racers actually speak in their own languages.

You talking about how you liked how the other girls are getting more build up this time is another thing I forgot to mention as to why that Fall Tenno Sho was my favourite race of the series narratively. Forgive the weird analogy, but think of the Japanese racing scene like a river. Before that Tenno Sho, it was calm waters. Then Tamamo and Oguri throw rocks into it and disturb it. If that makes any sense. As you said in the episode, that race lit a fire under everyone else, which is why the build ups start now, as this is where most of the character arcs begin (except maybe Yaeno and Chiyono with their Satsuki Sho and Derby wins respectively) Anyway, glad you're still enjoying. I was impatient and upgraded my membership to watch this early, but I also believe you genuinely deserve the extra cash, cause I could watch you all day honestly. Keep doing what you're doing :)

OH so I got those races mixed up. I had the classics written down already but I mustve assumed the Japan Cup was the same as the Japanese Derby. Lol yeah it might as well be called a medium race still at that point

jay K

Grey Monster is most accurate lol every frame is terrifying when Oguri is behind someone

29:49 - Those are the Fall Triple Crown races. The Classic Triple Crown is: Satsuki Sho (2000m Medium), Japanese Derby (2400m Medium), and Kikuka Sho (3000m Long). This is the one that she can't do since only horses in their 3yo year can run them. Oguri is still in her classic year at this point, but now that it is coming up on Fall, she can run the Japan Cup (2400m Medium) and Arima Kinen (2500m Long) G1s that are coming up. There is no age restriction on these two. The Japan Cup is an invitational international race, and the Arima Kinen requires you to be voted in by popularity. The Arima Kinen is a big deal, and it's always on the second to last or last Sunday in December. Also people refer to the Arima Kinen as a "Fake Long" since it is only 100m more than the upper limit for a Medium race.

Oguri Cap, the real horse, collected quite a few nicknames over the course of its life: "Grey Monster" (or "Ashen Beast"), "Star of the Provinces" (referring to its humble beginnings), "Idol Horse" (referencing its exceptional popularity with fans) and finally, of course, "Cinderella".
