🔥Cinderella Gray Episode 12-13 (Finale)

Oguri Cap's first G1 race! It's time to settle it and figure out who's better... Oguri or Tamamo Cross!? This race went craaaaazy!

Intro part of recording: (Had to cut recording off because of video buffering)

Comments

This sounds like the best era to get into horse racing. I've only know horse racing as a betting thing like you said, I feel like if this somehow popped off today I could see a lot of people randomly getting into it just because of Oguri's insane power. And it makes sense of the intro part now of Tama and his mom being at Oguri's apartment looking for a place to stay. but the apartment is actually looking for farms, bruh this show is so cool with the details! That's tragic what happened with Tama's farm but that made the ending feel more fire to see the man crying watching it. So I guess that was the farm dying out when Tama started to take off. Man the creativity behind making everything int he story make sense is so clean. Even the hill I thought was made up for plot but was actually legit. We'll save real horse races links for later we'll do an actual reaction of some of the good ones in one reaction upload. Thanks again for this info bro!!

Oh FIRE the ear marks what gender the horse actually was, thats a cool one. These small details are insane. and the slope was real thats interesting too, on top of it being a longer race that mightve played the part of Tama or Oguri gassing out early too

Accidentally missed this one, not sure how. Also, I enjoyed the track stories, so no issues there. Anyway, more details: ------------------ The four main strategies 21:46 I can’t remember if I mentioned this before, so skip this section if it seems familiar. Here are the four main strategies we see in Umamusume: Front Runner: Stays at the front of the pack and sets the pace of the race. Does well with horses that can maintain high speeds for a long time. Pace Chaser: Stays near the front but behind the front runners. Late Surger: Stays near the back of the pack, relying on a powerful final spurt to catch up. End Closer: A more extreme version of the late surger strategy, staying at the tail end. There is also a variation of the Front Runner strategy called the Runaway or 大逃げ (oonige) strategy, which involves running far ahead of the pack to create more distance. It is risky because it uses a lot of stamina, but can create enough of a gap to the point that the other horses cannot catch up. The presence of a Runaway horse can have significant impacts on the pacing of the race. The Front Runner, End Closer, and especially the Runaway strategies also allow horses to avoid fighting for position. Some horses who are afraid of other horses (ex. Tama before overcoming her trauma) will use these as a result. Also, these categories are just generalizations, and not every horse will cleanly fit into each one. Some horses are capable of doing different ones. tldr: Further forward requires more stamina, further back requires better acceleration/top speed. ------------------ Tama’s injury 10:41 From what I have read online, this event was really bad. He was covered in bruises, and became afraid of other horses and even horse trailers. ------------------ Horse Weights 12:20 You are correct, Tama was tied for the lightest horse in this race at 452kg. Oguri was 492kg. I don’t really know how much of an effect weight has outside of fighting for positioning. There is a famous pair of horses in the game, Hishi Akebono and Biko Pegasus, who were 560kg and 432kg respectively when they placed first and second in the 1995 Sprinters Stakes (1200m G1). Akebono was the heaviest horse in Japanese history to win a G1. ------------------ Drama in horse racing 13:50 Oguri’s rise in popularity was actually a major contributing factor to people’s interest in horse racing as a story as opposed to just being for betting. The real horse was so popular that people who weren’t normally into horse racing would tune in to see what was going on with him. Tama was no slouch in this department either, as he even had 1994 manga loosely based on his story called “Midori no Makibao”. That said, this wasn’t always a good thing as horses perceived as ‘boring’ or that ‘ruined’ the story were disliked. ------------------ Music before the race 14:53 This isn’t quite related as the fanfare shown here is just a standard thing before the race, but leading up to races, there are often musical performances by military bands. Due to Umamusume’s popularity and influence, songs from the show are often included in these performances. ------------------ Hills in racecourses 36:32 The racecourses actually do have elevation changes, with the Kyoto and Nakayama courses being very famous for their hills. When it comes to anything race related, pretty much everything is accurate down to very fine details. ------------------ The old man 41:35 The old man is based on Tama’s original owner, whose farm went bankrupt. He traveled around trying to find someone to take Tama and his mom in, with Oguri’s farm being one of them. That said, like most other relationships, it isn't 1-1 with real life. In the context of Cinderella Gray, he is actually the landlord that took her in instead of the one looking for a home for her. ------------------ Real life context/backstory for Tama This doesn’t show up too much in the anime/manga, but in the game, Tama and her family are shown to be extremely poor, and part of the reason why she races is to keep her younger siblings from going hungry. The following is based off of information from the Retsuden website. This is based on the real life debts of the Nishikino Farm, which was over 1 billion yen in debt. Tama was considered the masterpiece of the farm, and 5% of earnings from races would go to the farm. As such, the owner, Nishikino, thought that he would be able to pay off the debt via Tama. Unfortunately, no big buyers showed up, and the eventual owner paid 4 million yen, a tenth of what Nishikino wanted. The owner and trainer had very low hopes for Tama due to how fragile and small he was. Tama's poor initial results meant that the Nishikino Farm could not make much off of the 5% earnings, so it went bankrupt and was sold. By the time that Tama started to show good results, Nishikino Farm had completely disappeared. ------------------ Oguri and Tama’s endurance 49:40 Another thing to keep in mind is that Oguri hasn’t been in any races longer than 2000m yet. Meanwhile, Tama has won the 3200m Spring Tenno Sho, so her stamina is top class. ------------------ Real race comparisons 54:30 While I can’t speak on these specific races, some of the real life races really are that exciting. The 2013 Arima Kinen is a great example of this, and is one of my favorite real life races. Everything from the commentary to the context behind it makes it really fun to watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXHtadsETOk ------------------ The Japan Cup 59:37 The Japan Cup is one of the biggest races in the world, consistently placing near the top in terms of ratings. In 2025, it was rated the number one race in the entire world.

10:28 - Yes, most racehorses are male (stallion). You can tell if they were stallions or mares (female) in real life by the accessories on their hair or ears. If you are looking from the perspective of the character: Stallion = Right ear/side Mare = Left ear/side 36:02 - You're half-right. They made it look way higher than it actually is, but yes there is a slope on this course.

Nice that you mentioned that your coach used to teach the arm swinging technique! Mine did too especially when you're almost empty on stamina, which was why we had an upper body strength training regime for medium distance runners in addition to stamina training. Really loved how the Zone is portrayed here as breaking through the "runner's wall" to find that extra ounce of strength/adrenaline to power through to the finish, and Symboli Rudolf's comment that "runners who defined their era have all managed to reach the Zone"!

I got the uma curse or something with these recording mess ups lol I'm glad the skips was brought up early though so I could fix it. YO I absolutely understand why this would be your favorite. Like you said they built up Tama from the very beginning when she was watching her at regionals. All the way to this final race being the one giving her a real challenge, Oguri never even got ahead of her once! And the twist of the flashback was perfect because it was right after showing she was injured so you kind of assume it's a flashback before she gets dusted but NO she goes even faster! like what!? and dang so it was the farm that was dying. Hopefully that win helped them, but it definitely helped with making the plot more interesting in this race. The teared up "coach" made it worth it that Tama won. We got plenty more races Oguri can win so it ain't that bad. Lmao I would be dancing like Oguri in her first race for that concert. And with the amount of uploads I'm doing it's a little bit difficult for the 3 piece upload, and it's 10 episodes in cour 2 so two eps would break it down evenly. I'll probably binge 4 episodes at one time so I'm in the same zone of that single race but break it up by two

jay K

Yikes, CinGray is like a magnet for technical issues for you 😅 Or maybe it's just the ghost of Sunday Silence. I have faith you'll get it fixed for youtube though. Anyway, I'll let ASDF go into their detail as usual, but I just hope they don't go into details on what the Zone is exactly or that Uma at the end yet, as that is spoilers all things considered. I will mention the most important one in case they miss it though, that being Tamamo's Dad. He's a personification of the farm that Tama grew up on irl, which was going out of business. (I believe) that entering Tama into races was a last-ditch attempt to get funding. I don't really remember the end fate of the farm, as this is all from memory, so I'll let the resident expert explain fully. But the main point from me, I think I mentioned last episode, but this Fall Tenno Sho is my favourite race of CinGray, hell, probably of the entire franchise. Later races in Cour two do get more insane, but the sheer narrative impact this race has is unmatched in my opinion, which is still wild cause it happened irl. Starting off, the entire season thus far has been building to this race. Tamamo seeing Oguri in a race back in the early episodes, and Oguri wanting to reach the peak. Like Tamamo says at one point in cour two "it was inevitable we would clash". Another thing is the flashbacks, which I was glad you picked up on. You've been conditioned to believe that flashback = lose. But they pull the rug, and introduce the crazy new factor. AND, the narrative build-up for this race is even wilder when you consider in a way that this race is a build-up for cour two. Finally, may I just suggest you watch the first three episodes of cour two in one go, like you did at the start of the the season? This way, you will avoid ending on cliff-hangers during races, if you then do two episodes a sitting. But yes, glad you've been enjoying the series. It only gets more fire from here. (P.S Your medals were dope. Now do a winning concert for us :D)

The Intro part video is in the description, my bad this ep in particular was buffering too much had to download it. What a race!! Blew my expectations out the water, this show does real good with tension and animating the intensity of each racing situation. Thanks for the help along the way, we'll jump right to Cour 2 after this one. I know Oguri is about to be different after this race!
