Cus Doja if anything deserved those pop nominations and not just rap but like you said they're trying our black queens and putting out to the point that basically "keep it cute , yall can perform and get your little nominations , but it won't be what yall should be givin just be fucking glad that yall here" just very disgusting massa mentality that these awards have. It’s easy to pin us against each other bc it’s another stigmatism that has been on us since slavery. Howebeit, black ppl and black women feed into it as well. Maybe once we start to act upon the fact that there can be more than one successful black woman in music then they would too?? I happy for Doja bc she’s been through a lot and her career could’ve been over but she kept fighting (the same for Megan). They just have to ignore bullshit and keep fighting - either ppl like their music or they dont, they have to remember to make the music bc it’s their passion and not for the sake of getting recognition from these award shows.

2022-05-17 21:56:32 +0000 UTCThere’s a good few things at play here: number one being that the industry is and always has been racist/colorist. So if there’s ever a question as to why someone who either doesn’t deserve the award or doesn’t fit the category won, it’s likely due to colorism. Doja Cat is the lightest complected artist in that category and because of her complexion she’s “allowed” to have more range of musical expression and why her pop music will do better over let’s say a Bre Runway type of black artist who also HAS the range but not the complexion. Another reason (at least for Billboard) is that they’re not listening for if the music is any good or not, they’re just watching the numbers (hence why Jaz isn’t nominated even though she won a fucking Grammy for the SAME CATEGORY). Doja has been everywhere this year, all the apps, has conversations with followers and makes appearances at all the “right(white)” places. The industry will naturally push the black girls that play the game. Summer Walker, Ari, Jazmine, even SZA have all acknowledged that they know the game is rigged and don’t want to waste their energy trying to play what they may see as a losing game. Hopefully all of that made sense, all of the red tape around Doja and all these other amazing black artists is bullshit and I want all of us to just be free in making our art and putting it out there to be received by the audience who needs it
