Most people just don’t know their musical history and that’s where I think all the criticism comes from. Chloe is on her way to icon status and they can’t stand it !!!! The problem with her is this is not the 1st, 2nd, or 5th time she's been cringey af when she's trying to be sexy. Flopping all over the floor getting real banji with the choreo & I love every bit of it but back then (unlike today unfortunately), individuality and a real performance was appreciated. It just sucks that our generation is so brainwashed into believing that everyone has to be doing the same thing or something similar to everybody else. in order to be "acceptable" or like you said "digestible" ugh 🙄 And you know how they love to put black women especially in this box. I thought Chloe's VMA AND AMA performances were exceptional considering they were her first couple of performances after feeling good. Also not to compare but I don't really hear too many people saying Doja does too much and she performs doooown too. I guess it's just the IG stuff that people are finding "cringe" but as a young & new artist, there is alot of pressure put on you especially because she's a black woman so I completely agree when you say she's just trying to find herself as an artist and also possibly as a young woman.

What pisses me off the most about the “doing too much” thing is this: what is “too much”, who decided that, and why is it that black/POC women are always being told how to act to conform to this idealized standard? Too much is a societal construct. It’s sad that society has put these ideas in our heads to the point that even though you agreed with not bullying her, you yourself said she might be doing “too much”. I myself was taken aback by her first performance and said “ooooo that’s a lot” before reflecting on why I felt that way. Great video Zach and thank you for furthering this conversation 😊

We've seen her since she was a kid in "The Fighting Temptations" and "Daddy's Little Girls". But now she's 23 and she wants to be sexy.
