Last weekend, I went to Shizuoka for a short visit.

What can I say about Shizuoka?

Tamiya, of course.

I attended the Mini 4WD Japan Cup practice session held at Tamiya's headquarters!

It's been a while since I've been to an official event.

The event was not a race, but a practice session, but the opportunity to drive on the official course many times is really, really valuable!

It only happens once every few years.

Of course I would go. I had to go.

I drove my car until it broke down.

Now, I'm sorry to suddenly start talking about mini 4WD.

Today I'm going to talk about one of my biggest hobbies, Mini 4WD.

Do you know about it? Mini 4WD.

All Japanese boys know about it, at least.

What about people overseas?

I guess it's pretty well known in Asia.

I've recently learned that Mini 4WD is slowly gaining popularity in China and Korea.

In Taiwan and Thailand, Mini 4WD has been quite popular for a long time.

I love Mini 4WD.

No, it's not just a love.

It's not an exaggeration to say that I've always been around Mini 4WD in my life!

After all, I've been doing it since I was three years old.

I've been doing it for over 30 years!

I started with Mini 4WD before the Mini 4WD boom came.

I started playing before the mini 4WD boom, and even after everyone else lost interest, I was the only one who kept playing... I'm a fierce racer.

About 10 years ago, there was a third boom in Mini 4WD, and the world's most prestigious official Mini 4WD tournament, Mini 4WD Japan Cup, was revived, and I was at the peak of my excitement at the time.

But...that was about five years ago.

Due to the negative effects of the overly large number of competitors, participation in the official tournament became a lottery system.

It became more and more difficult to participate.

As someone whose main goal was to participate in official tournaments, this change was painful for me.

In addition, at that time I was very busy trying to get a series of manga for the general public, and due to the demolition and rebuilding of my house, I could no longer work on plastic models, so for the past five years or so I just watched with my fingers crossed.

For the past five years, I've just been watching, occasionally buying new products and putting them away in the warehouse.

And just when I thought things were finally settling down around me, the number of people competing in the Mini 4WD world had plummeted to about 1/6 of its peak due to Corona.

It's become much more open.

In addition, a new series of Mini 4WD has started, and my Mini 4WD fever has been rekindled... I've started building Mini 4WD again since the end of this summer.

Next year is the 40th anniversary of Mini 4WD.

Something is going to happen.

I don't want to miss it!

During the third mini 4WD boom, I reported my activities on twitter a lot, but I was the type of person who would rather work quietly by myself and focus on winning with a well-built machine than play casually.

That's why the competitive nature of mini 4WD meant that there were inevitably times when I got into trouble, and there were times when I was resented and envied by people I had never met and didn't know at all.

When I found out about it, I was fed up with it.

I'm not going to show my mini 4WD activities to anyone!

I've made up my mind to do so, but I don't get that kind of people here on Fanbox.

So, I may talk about Mini 4WD in the supporters-only articles from time to time.

Please watch over this big kid with warm eyes.

There were fakes in Japan, too. Among them, illegal motors such as the "四駆龍" are particularly famous. At the time, I don't think children were that aware of the regulations. Above all, the Internet didn't exist, so they thought that all the parts, including the fakes, were mini 4WD parts. However, the fake ones were expensive and not available outside of specialty stores, so I didn't have much chance to touch them anyway. Since around 2015, a large number of fake products made in China have started to appear on the market. These are not the so-called side-party products that existed in the past, but rather malicious copies made to look exactly like official parts. Nowadays, any item can be copied by an individual, so all kinds of counterfeit products are distributed at low prices. This is another result of the intrusion of adults into the world of Mini 4WD. We live in troubled times.

Did Japanese children play the fake ones?In my memory, some of children played with some imitations of Tamiya's Mini4WD.But around 2008, a localized series of Mini4WD appeared by an animation and sparked a boom in children here. I think many things aimed for children have been adults' toys and games.Like mario(Super Mario Maker 2),pokemon and some card game.

As I recall, I heard that only fake ones were available. That's why people who were kids back then are enjoying Mini 4WD again now. The process is different, but the result is the same as the current popularity of Mini 4WD in Japan. To be honest, though, the level of mini 4WD has become so high that it's not really a toy for children anymore.

In East of Asia,Mini 4WD (and it's animation)is always a shining piece of childhood memories. But for many reasons, even with a Mini4WD in hand,it was hard for most of children here in that time to play Mini4WD probably. I think that's why it's only in the memories but not in the hand.
