Yeah Trigun is VERY Biblical. The scene with Vash with the stone and the sleeping Knives is ripped right out of Cain and Abel, especially because they're the first people on the planet and they're brothers. Knives did say he set the ships so that the ones containing the plants make it. And he wants to kill humans to create a planet of only plants so they're not used as tools by humans. This also feels very Book of Genesis as Knives is making a clear distinction that humans were born with original sin and that as non-humans he and Vash are superior. To Knives, his kind aren't just physically better but they're holier. Knives biting the apple and leaving the recreation room with the trees also shows a loss of innocence. He left the Garden of Eden (the recreation room) and bit that apple and cuts his hair himself to distinguish him from Vash all to show that loss. He ate the fruit of knowledge and now has the wisdom (cynicism) to see the flaws in humanity. But that also means he is also capable of sin and he acts on that with the murder of the crew. But Vash maintains that innocence and Knives adopts the figure of the Devil, with the help of Legato, by trying to open Vash's eyes to the temptatkon of killing (which is prob why Legato's theme song has so much hissing. He's the snake). He wants Vash to take a bite out of that apple too. Because how can Vash maintain pre-original sin ideals in a post-original sin world where humans are no longer innocent enough to live in Eden? Also was Earth Eden then? And did humanity's sin drive them out of Eden and into this new home that is much more hostile? But then the ending where Millie's mining finally results in water shows the potential of a less hostile Gunsmoke in the future. It's a redemption for humans that was triggered by Vash's final decision to forgive Knives. Because if he could forgive Knives's sin then the sin of humanity can be forgiven too. So then Vash is very much a Jesus figure because he is carrying all of humanity's sin. He knows despite humans' flaws he has to make the case to Knives that they deserve to live. Knives feels betrayed by Vash not just because he breaks their brotherly bond but because Vash is breaking that bond to side with humans. This is the best I can do as an english major that wasn't raised Christian lol. (Most of my Biblical knowledge comes from the Jesus and Buddha roommates anime that the third video showed clips of). You don't have to be Christian to enjoy this series but it is cool to see the references behind the story. I don't think it's a Christian story but a story that makes use of Biblical references because it's so widely known Also I haven't finished Maximum yet but I heard the lore does go deeper with what Plants actually are.

2025-04-19 03:51:49 +0000 UTCBefore anyone asks, I can't do all shows fullscreen like this because I could be blocking important parts of the show/subtitles if it's someone's first time watching along. And I plan to create shorts of Patreon content so I need the show and face cam to be in two separate places on screen. But it is possible future Youtube video reactions could be fullscreen like this since those aren't as important
