TRW Strips #128

It seems like about half the time when I attempt to cut ahead for comedic effect, people just think they missed a page. Did it happen for you this time?

In Millie's defense, being the healer is a famously thankless role that can be a tough sell to many. When engaging in a vicarious fantasy adventure it's not unreasonable for one to want to be a flashy sword-swinging ass-kicker, not a support character meant to prop up others. Growing up, I don't think I ever played in a group that had a dedicated healer. We were all playing just a bunch of legally distinct Aragorn and Legolas ripoffs competing to be the "main" character. Every damn chest we found had to have healing potions in it or we were all dead meat after a battle or two.

Meanwhile here comes Necromancer Nadine! It may have come up in the visual novel that Kal (the current game master in this comic, as opposed to my real-world coworker) went to Castlewood High and she scared the hell out of him back in the day. I loosely based her look off of Odette from a game called Odin Sphere. It's not easy to make a hot zombie from a design standpoint, so whenever I see it pulled off well it stands out to me.

We're coming up on the end of the story now. Anything in particular you'd like to see next? Maybe I'll switch back over to pin ups for a couple of months? I'd love the input if you have it.

Thanks! I love the Vanillaware style. I didn't really get into 13 Sentinels but I do think Unicorn Overlord looks more my speed. Might pick that one up on sale if I can.

Reinbach

For sure, I could have been more clear on this one.

Reinbach

Reminds me of "The Gamers," ever see that one?

Reinbach

Oh I've got the finale for this one planned already, what I meant by "what next?" was what you'd like to see after this story. Raina and Sylvia would be fun to focus on in a strip for sure.

Reinbach

These strips are leaning less towards asset reuse and more into full comic pages all the time, it feels like. But I can live with the extra work since I'm only posting every two weeks now.

Reinbach

We'll see! I certainly want to do more with them at some point if I can.

Reinbach

Good to know! I'll try to be more mindful about that kind of thing next time.

Reinbach

Hey the new family angle could be fun to explore. And some Switch-themed strips will definitely happen sooner or later.

Reinbach

Sounds solid! XD

Reinbach

Odin Sphere, Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Dragon's Crown all have awesome art styles and designs, the Sorceress especially :). Great choice!

NKL

It does kind of feel like you missed a page here, not because of the jump forward but because the joke wasn't set up by the previous page.

Iokua

You mean besides zombie prostitutes? There could be a crawler portal mixup and the real people get sucked into the game, and the characters get sucked into the TRW “real world,” you know, if you want to keep the party going..

frank barry

I had a GM that always gave us premade characters, i totally agree with Millie here! as for the finale..Raina and Sylvia maybe? mega final bosses XD

As for a new idea, I'd love a return to pin-ups for a bit. Another thing might be smutty pinups featuring the faculty (like the game-only ones, not just my fave, lol), though I guess if you're still thinking of aging everyone out of high school, that might be unnecessary.

ScuzzBucket

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! MISS HOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLT!!! It's so rare we see her perfect boobs! I love how the corset-thingie pushes them up just a tad so they get that perfect, compact roundness to them (like in that commission I got where she's riding Shiro). And you got the WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE hips! Without me having to badger for wider ones, lol! The little hair-bang thing gives her just enough of a different "look" facially, and the bony arms make her come off as inhuman. Only thing I could think of to add is shading to indicate the area where the thighs meet the hips, but that might be too much detail for the comics, which are usually using the bases and are meant to be drawn quickly.

ScuzzBucket

Honestly, yeah I did feel like I missed a page. However, I don't feel unsatisfied. I just had to look back and go "did I miss a page? No? Ok, I'm good."

No, the jump is fine, though folks who didn’t see the previous strip might be slightly lost. Shouldn’t really be necessary though. I think format helps with healers. A group that’s not really role playing should have a npc healer, those b\that do rp will generally have a rotation in the rp areas to make said player feel appreciated. As for next, why not a rotation of kids telling the nurse what they think of the new teacher? Could flesh out a lot of things and have some great jokes to boot. Bonus points for surprising answers, like deep thoughts. Also, another idea would be some wholesome family moving to Castlewood and slowly succumbing to its influence. Could be a once a week check in with a local psychiatrist describing the family’s descent into castlewood levels of horniness.

1: Love the Nurseubus picking her teeth in the background. 2: I've been a dedicated healer and its great. You literally get to decide who lives and who dies. Rogue stole from your coin purse? No cure spells for him. Wizard giving you shit because you can't cast fireball? Guess that sucking chest wound will just have to close itself. Fighter talking smack because you have a limited weapon selection and a shitty melee attack bonus? Guess he can just walk off those negative levels that succubus gave him. Everybody loves the dedicated healer. And if they don't, they can just roll up a new (hopefully smarter) character.
