A Lois Lane Sketch Just for Fun

Last night I decided to check out that new Superman cartoon before it gets inevitably purged from existence by that one guy nobody likes who took over HBO. And I have to say, I found anime Superman to be pretty charming. Like many, I think Superman should be allowed to be lighthearted and I'm often disillusioned with dark, broody takes on the character. I'm a big fan of Lois in this version as well, especially of how insanely overzealous she is to make it as a reporter. Most versions I've seen present her as an already-established and successful veteran that's looking for a challenge, so I think it's a fun twist to see what that same fire would have been like when applied to a college-age Lois breaking into journalism from the ground level.

Side note: Lois sure has come a long way as a character, hasn't she? In the original comics she was easily the biggest antagonist our hero ever faced. Move over, Lex Luthor, make way for the shrill, nagging harpy who cannot wait to ruin Superman's life to advance her own career. Not so in the new cartoon, thankfully. In fact, Superman himself seems a bit de-powered in this new show, as in he seems to actually get hurt from regular fights. I think this was a fantastic idea because it opens the door for Lois and Jimmy to actually be able to offer help during a crisis now.

Anyhow I think the show is off to a strong start, and I'm looking forward to more episodes. How about you? If you've seen it or just want to talk about Superman, let me know in the comments.

This is totally delightful

Nicely put! :D

I love cuckery. A good balance of cuckery and canon love making is good for the soul

Licorice Lain

Thanks! :)

Let's hope! I already kinda want anime husbando Batman to show up lol.

Reinbach

Thanks! And I get the critique, honestly at two episodes all I can say is that it left me a positive first impression. Time will tell if it has legs. Or, perhaps more cynically, time will tell how long it can last before it gets axed for the crime of being an animated show on a streaming service.

Reinbach

I do enjoy some cuckery, but more than that, when I make fan art I usually find it kinda boring to pair the woman up with her default love interest. Though if you like, we can say this takes place the day before she met Clark. XD

Reinbach

I did think those were nice touches myself! :)

Reinbach

Most of it, yes. I think the most recent season is all I haven't seen. I liked it overall so far.

Reinbach

I have long since relied on visual depictions of shockingly graphic sex as a way to trick others into listening to my nerdy opinions! XD

Reinbach

Quite so! XD And the first episode is free on Youtube as of this writing if you're interested.

Reinbach

And I would do it again! XD

Reinbach

Haven't seen Owl House myself but I've seen the character in question and I agree, it is pretty damn close there.

Well on the Superman thing my defense for depowering him a bit is this: with his full canon power set, I'm constantly having to suspend my disbelief as to what would actually pose this guy a challenge. The super speed is often the elephant in the room for me, personally. DC: Beware Superman's newest foe, Blastyhands! Blastyhands has the power to- Me: Does Blastyhands ALSO possess super speed? DC: Well, no, but- Me: THEN BLASTYHANDS HAS LOST THE FIGHT ALREADY. XD

Reinbach

Same! :)

Reinbach

Can't go wrong! XD

Reinbach

I think you're onto something with your Lois design pal.

Another hit for DC animation then?

It was not my cup of tea truthfully. Some things I liked, dynamics between Lois and Clark. Lois being sweet and admitting when she messed up. Somethings like certain character designs, voical choices and some oddball creative choices just didn't vibe with me. But hey that's just how it be. Middle of the road. Nice piece though.

I watched the first episode on Youtube and I'll get around to the second this week, but amongst all the other things I loved (including the chemistry between the trio, how much of a sweetie Clark was, Young Clark having a 90s Cool S on his shirt, and Lois's tiny jogging shorts), I also loved the very appropriate symbolism of Clark's sudden power-up moments coming from when he's trying to help others, rather than using his powers for his sake. He unlocks his speed and strength to save a woman about to crash her car. He unlocks his laser eyes when Lois is in danger. A+

TBH I did like the modern Death of Superman with the follow up of Reign of the Superman. DC animated has stayed pretty solid the past few decades, since 2020 though it feels like it's slowing down. I recently rewatched the older version of Death of Superman and it was pretty tame but for the era it makes sense. I really don't think there will ever be a better DC film better than Mask of the Phantasm, animated or live action. Also Young Justice really dropped the ball in season 3 the cast was so bloated it was harder for me to care about all the characters. Also the politics was much more on the nose and I'm tired of that BS.

I'll have to check it out. Your recommendation makes it sound pretty cool. I haven't checked out much DC animation after Justice League Unlimited. After the finale of that show, I didn't think anything else could top it. I did watch all of the Harley Quinn show, though. That show was far better than I expected. You've seen it, right?

Nikuthulhu

Lol, I’m still chuckling over the serious analysis of Lois Lane being a serious reporter at the start of her career vs her getting a BBC bigger than her arm dousing her entire body in jism. File your stories on time or else you jump up and down and get the hose again! Bwahaha!!

ShadowSkill

I personally felt like The Death of Superman and the sequel were pretty good, having watched them recently. Justice League Dark had an interesting portrayal of Supes after Darksied defeated them, but that's just my opinion.

Deita

I want to watch it but currently am unable to. It looks great though, both Clark and Lois are painfully adorable!

HungryOuroboros

I've watched the first two eps of the new Superman show, and it's a lot of fun! Quite wholesome. Almost TOO wholesome to draw smut about, I dare say? (Not that that's stopped the internet, but hey). Though your version of Lois is a lot more, uh, stacked than the character model on the show.

A Guy

Ooh cute! I love the sketchy style. I wouldn’t mind it being a regular thing if it meant more arts! Also I find it funny they made her look just like the girl from The Owl House.

ScuzzBucket

De-powering Superman isn't good storytelling. It's literal character deconstruction because modern writers hate how popular Superman is and have no idea how to write him. Everything DC after 2012, with very few exceptions, has been garbage.

Kudos707

I’m loving it so far. I’m so tired of the edgy brooding Superman and the “Superman but evil” trope so this show was what I wanted.

Adler No

I like that your first thought of a sexual Lois Lane was cum on her tits.
