True story: when I first got my scanner, I started scanning EVERYTHING into it, and then my friend decided to come in and snoop around- I had to tell him about the paper everywhere, at he immediately guessed it was porn and made fun of me :).

Yeah, it's something I forget a lot. I've traced porn a fair bit, but I always found the results a bit "stiff" and lifeless compared to drawing from memory- it's also a bit tricky to find "that perfect pose". It doesn't help that I like some rather "outside" body types (one character of mine is very tall, busty and fairly muscular without being Zarya-ish; another IS Zarya; another has a Helen Parr-type body), so getting the right pose AND body type is tricky :). But yeah, the Great Masters of the Renaissance and pretty much every professional painter hires models for this reason. And now I'm gonna be looking at your pics to try and guess what the original pics might've looked like, if there is one (usually, my "giveaway" with most artists' work is that the hands look ultra-realistic instead of the "shorthand" most artists use).

According to one of my old instructors, leaning on visual reference is what professionals do whenever possible. It can only make your art look better. :)

Wow, cool! I didn't even realize there were programs to help with that kind of stuff- but of course there are! It's the internet! Me, I was still drawing from "memory" all the time, which might be the source of some anatomy issues I've been having :).

As for the second comment I just noticed I use photo reference a lot, though recently I've been leaning towards 3d posing programs like Design Doll so I can make any visual aid I want. As for painting that's just how I do it, in my experience attempting to use the paint bucket to flat comics is a pain in the ass as my inks are so messy that there's no way my colors could be on the same layer.

Reinbach

Well pretty much everyone around me knows what I do, (though I certainly don't show my work to my family. As far as my grandma's concerned my comics are too "violent" to show her.) But everyone else is pretty cool about it.

And wow, it is AWESOME watching you work. I've never actually done real computer art before, so it's always impressive to watch- pen & marker are so unforgiving by contrast! I don't have the technical know-how or computer skills to feel comfortable with doing that. I see a lot of people "point and click" their colors in, but you actually "paint" the whole way through. Are there differences in doing things like that? Or is it just a different program? How often do you use photo reference for poses and stuff like that?

Wikipedia is the WORST for finding out information on characters. Generally, every story before the creation of the Wikipedia page is summed up in about a single paragraph, and every story AFTER someone started the page is explained in full detail, in the most dry, "so this happened, and then this happened" manner possible, with absolutely zero editing. Ever try reading the Wiki pages for Rogue & X-23? AWFUL. For an RPG character-statting thread of mine, I actually have to compile all the info of the characters, so reading a Wiki page to get someone's history is a pain I know well. I can't imagine what it's like for someone who didn't actually READ a lot of comics! PS I find it amusing you draw porn with lots of people in the house. I could never do that when I had a roommate- they were way too likely to walk into the room and get nosy :).
