Weekend update!

So the big news I referred to in the previous post is that I finally upgraded the PC on Thursday, been installing and copying stuff over from the old PC throughout the weekend.

Part of the issue I run into with my stories is that I eventually get a lot of girls on screen and that kills VRAM on the GPU.  If I bust the VRAM limit, the GPU doesn't even try to help the CPU with the render, it just goes 'Fuck it! This one's yours!' and leaves the CPU alone to render, which is just not an option because it's already hours with the GPU.  CPU means days for a single render.

So the RTX 3090 was an obvious draw, with unprecedented amount of VRAM on it.  Couldn't get one retail and since I'd have to build a new machine, I settled on buying a pre-built PC (I know, overpriced but at least I have it now and I didn't want the trouble of building a new one).

So that's mostly it, been busy copying stuff over and I can't wait to see how much easier it makes the work from now on.

Weekend update!

Coming from a I7-2600k, 16gb ram, GTX 1660, and of course sata SSD drives. Just built myself a I9-10850k, 32gb ram, RTX 3090, nvme SSDs. I'm using it for CAD, large spreadsheets, physics calcs, photo/video editing, and gaming in my free time. I have 3x 4k screens. Maybe I'll notice it more when I start getting into VR? idk, lol

What were you upgrading from? Got it for renders or gaming? Personally, I'm in love. It has unlocked potential for much more lively scenes and it renders so fast.

How are you looking the Rtx 3090 so far? I just got one and I'm not sure it lived up to the hype for me.

Kidcrash

I might just upgrade RAM and I will be adding a new SSD or two. Easy upgrades. It's otherwise good for another 5 years and we'll see then...

My only problem with prebuilt PCs like Alienware are that they're usually not upgradeable, making it so that you have to use the PC until it makes sense to get a whole new one, instead of just upgrading the part that is slowing down the system.

Sounds great! You know I understand you, I also came across a similar one. Yes, I'm sure now it will make your job easier.

Now you just need to load the Nintendo 8 bit emulator and your away

Totally awesome.

That was pretty much my thought

Nice upgrade, and to be fair a slightly marked up pre-built pc is still better than scalper prices on eBay.
