It's my birthday today. Photo by Through the Looking Glass Photography, makeup and hair by LaDonna Stein.
That's my big blue boa. I could've danced in those shoes ten years ago, but now they're reserved for photo shoots.
Aging is strange. Every year I gain more experience points but I experience a little more wear and tear. Smile lines get a little deeper, recovery after a big show takes a little longer, more body parts crackle when I stretch.
However, I recognize that I've had the luxury of making it another year. In childhood, it's unusual for someone you know to die. (Great. Taking the naked post to a morbid place.) It's true! My high school had one memorial page in four years. As the years advance, we know more people who don't make it to that benchmark of another birthday. Some are close to our own age, others are a few years older.
That morbidity makes me appreciate that I'm still here. I get to experience the cards, gifts, balloons, messages, and free perks from restaurants. I get to continue creating nonsense to entertain people and make the world a little happier. I get to take naked photos with my big blue boa.
It's not every day all of my patrons get to see bits of birthday suit. So, my happy birthday to you!
Thank you for your support. I dig you.
