Tsubame Inagaki - reference sheet and the story behind the design

Tsubame Inagaki, 21, student at the University of Physical Education but, most importantly, a rising star of the Japanese athletics scene. Since childhood, she spent time on the running track and competed in sprint competitions over a distance of 200 and 400 meters. Although summer is a special moment for athletes, full of many important international events, Tsubame decides for some reason to devote herself to a part-time job and comes to the Komadori Inn as a caretaker for one of the elderly guests.

As we've mentioned several times before, we want the female characters in Komadori Inn to be more diverse than they were in LaHS! So this is the perfect time to introduce someone with a very distinctive physique (who doesn't have big boobas), and I'd be lying if I said athletic girls aren't among my favorite types. But first things first.

In order not to limit our hero's adventures to interactions with the girls he works with, the obvious motive for working in a hotel is a sexy guest whose heart we can conquer. But how to combine the requirements of the game, the pre-created assumptions and the arrival of someone like that at the Komadori Inn?

• The hotel is in the middle of nowhere and popular only with older people, so why would a young, athletic girl go there?
• She should not be with a group of people her age, because then it would be appropriate to add more achievable girls to the game, which increases the scope and required budget
• She can't come only for a holiday, because her availability during the day must be at least partially limited (so that it's not too easy to get her)

Considering the above, we quickly came to the conclusion that the character we need is a caretaker of someone elderly who comes there to bask old bones in the sun, inhale sea iodine and take health baths in hot springs. We just needed a personality to complete the roster with a unique set of traits. Here is an excerpt from the description I prepared:

She comes to the Hotel with one of the older guests as his caretaker.

She's very calm and collected and shows little emotion, which makes her feel quite cold and distant at first, but that's just how she is on the outside. After all, she's a caretaker of the elderly and she treats the people under her care with great attention and professionalism, as she wants the best for them. She's quite serious and intelligent, doesn't take (and doesn't understand) jokes very well. She might loose her cool when someone hurts her pride (makes her angry) and when she sees a bug (makes her scared and then angry).

Falls into "kuudere" type, like Kiyoko Shimizu from Haikyuu!

As for her appearance, I was sure we needed someone athletic (because that's what I wanted, and that's someone who should be able to lift an elderly person on their own if they fall), but at the time I didn't know exactly what sport she would play. I also didn't have any particular requirements for appearance, although I thought that the aforementioned Kiyoko from Haikyuu! would be a good fit.

That gave SleeplessMax a base to work on, and he came back with a first try on her face.

But then he followed his instincts and proposed some other versions:

And I really like the upper left one! Although you already know what Tsubame looks like now, I liked this version at first so much that I changed my plans for someone with darker hair and this was the version that was almost final until the end.

But at this point it was crucial to decide on details of her physique, which should correlate with the sport she practices (which also had to be decided). Seeing her strong legs in the version on the right, I did a quick research of body types in women's sports and suggested to make her even "stronger" and follow the example of Lee-sang Hwa to make her a speed skater.

And that's how she would look in the first iteration of her workout attire:

But that didn't last for long... Seeing that I hade some second thoughts, as she was starting to look too similar to our first thicc character (apart from the breast size), and we wanted quite the oppisite. So we had to put a cross on the speed skaters. :(

Suggesting that she should be aa lot more lean, we've decided to make her a sprinter, with this being the first refined sketch (but we were still going for blonde, despite her having dark hair here, believe me 😅).

After that we did some research on the workout/sport clothes and made the changes.

And after going back and forth a couple of times, fixing some details and making quick decisions, this is how Tsubame was supposed to look like.

And this was really the final version that I was supposed to show everybody, but I fell ill for a week so the posts were delayed. In the meantime, SleeplessMax has read the description of the next girl and wanted to try out on Tsubame what was supposed to be her feature - tanned skin with tan lines underneath.

When we saw that we knew that it works soooo well with her that we couldn't let it go, and in this somewhat lucky way the version known to you was created.
