I waited ever so patiently for the last 4 volumes to be translated to English and bought them all and loved every bit of it. This along with your name will forever be a part of my starter pack into the world of anime/manga/light novels. I read both before knowing they would be movies. I was so blissfully ignorant to so many things. Great choice for a reaction.

After that I would also recommend "Takopi's Original Sin", on Crunchyroll, but that one is very dark and very heavy but it does have a pay off. It's a 6 episode series but it packs a lot in those six episodes.

2025-10-03 01:57:26 +0000 UTCI remember reading the manga for this years ago as it was being made, such a beautiful story. I am so glad a talented team worked on the movie, and I still grieve for those who worked on this who's lives were cut short in the Kyoto Animation arson attack in 2019.

I mean, don't get it twisted, the manga is amazing, and profound, and tells a slightly more lengthy story, but from the direction, to the voice acting, to the storyboarding and more than anything, the sound design, I think this is among the best things to ever hit cinema. Mind you, while this is their Magnum Opus, that is actually the standard for Kyoto Animation. They take the most wonderful of stories, casts of amazing characters, all filled with love and bring it to life in a way that just makes you appreciate the filmmaking medium for what it can do. They improve and perfect almost everything they touch, that studio. Further examples of this include Sound Ephonium!, Violet Evergarden, K-on!, and Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. They made Clannad, for heavens sake! Wonderful people putting all their hard work into these stories that all revolve around love and all of its different facets.

2025-10-02 23:47:18 +0000 UTCman i watched the movie first and loved it, then i saw a comment on some youtube video saying the manga was much better but it really wasn't the movie only cuts out a minor B plot about making a movie for a competition and some stuff past the end of the movie about the mc deciding to go to hair dressing school, was "fun" watching a second time
