2025-09-23 19:25:42 +0000 UTCIts never outright said, but Thorkell probably has grown to dislike Canute not because hes looking for peace outright, but rather because its pretty obvious hes been assassinating his rivals to ascend rather than traditional warfare and duels. Thorkell likely sees that as cowardly.

The other Old English word, "Bretwalda," just means ruler of Britain.
