Usually heroes have the Deus Ex Machina but this time it's the villains because the ability to force someone unwillingly through the gate was nuts and something that hadn't been hinted at before. Although I guess Hohenheim was sort of unknowingly tricked into going through the gate by the Dwarf in the Flask but it's not quite the same. Mustang being blind is a big boon to the villains. His flame alchemy really is "the most troublesome" weapon against them. Now he can't use his flames because its too dangerous to everyone around him if he can't aim. Also a big boon to the author lol. It certainly makes this final act of the story a lot more tense when Mustang can't just roast Pride or Father.

Ed is FIGHTING is way back so hard he even manages to open the door again to see Al's body and make the promise Now ... Al willingly runs to enter the door and leave cuz all of the implications and what's at stake, his soul is so PURE he is willing to sacrifice everything he has wanted all this time, to go help and save others Both of their reactions are based on they wanting to help their loved ones

They don't put their feelings into words, but you can tell from their gazes and every gesture that they truly think of each other as special. I appreciate the animators always doing a meticulous job in this regard.
