Because of the Ohara incident, so many people end up blaming only Akainu for Squard's betrayal, even though there was someone else pulling the strings behind the scenes. But tbf, the Navy can't afford to pick and choose its means against the strongest man in the world and his pirate crew, so, well...

Roger killed his entire crew, Whitebeard lied to him about Ace being Roger's son, he even befriended Ace without realizing the truth, the Navy/Marines strategically only attacked the 43 allied pirate crews and not the Whitebeard Pirates, and Akainu lent a sympathetic ear to him while presenting himself as an "ally." This is a masterful plan put forth by Fleet Admiral Sengoku. Not surprising at all that Squard fell for the trap, especially considering the mental state that he's in. That's why Akainu started by telling him that Ace is Roger's son. Great psychological warfare. Just shows how despicable the Navy/Marines can really be! But then, Whitebeard hugs Squard and forgives his "foolish son" πππ We love you Whitebeard, best of men, father of outcasts β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
