Like, from Greed's perspective who want to be immortal, Al condition is such a perfect way for him. The guy that tells Izumi and Sig that Ed and Al went to "The Devi'ls Nest" is not an stranger (like you refered to him) In the manga he is a friend and worker on Izumi's Meat shop... actually she also sents him to take an eye on Ed and Al on his 1 month training on the island, just to make sure they dont die (but the guys never saw him or knew about this) ... so she actually cared about them from the very begining, and she's not as "heart colded" as she seems
