Asking because I knew about nothing happened way before I saw the episode and I would have never guessed that this is the context in which is gonna be used. i actually share my theories all the time because I can remember what i was thinking at the time. Sometimes they're right, often they're not, lol. I want to give reactors a taste of what interacting with the community while caught up to OP was like at the point in time when they're reacting. If it helps spark interesting conversation, all the better. I wouldn't recommend anyone else do that though, I just understand well how to not spoil the show. it's not about rights dude, it's about courtesy to the reactors and their viewers who want them to experience the story as it's meant to be experienced. People have a choice, we're asking them to make the obvious correct and empathetic choice. They have the right to be selfish of course, but who wants to associate with selfish people like that? Obviously since it's the internet, it's impossible to actually manage 100% because the combination of sample size and anonymity means it's unlikely that things will not be spoiled, so maybe having people prescreen comments would be a good idea. Still, encouraging people not to spoil will help alleviate the issue.

I love this moment because it not only reaffirms how sanji and zoro would both die for luffy without a second thought, but that - despite how they act on the surface - they're also willing to sacrifice themselves for eachother. In an official magazine it states that in this moment sanji puts zoros ambition over his own life, a clear contrast from the baratie where sanji tells zoro to "throw away your ambition" when he fights mihawk, showing that zoros actions actually moved him. It's just a great moment to finally understand that despite their bickering, they do deeply care for eachother just as they do the rest of the crew.

Stating that he'd rather die than not achieve his ambition. He values his ambition over his life. And he is willing sacrifice that too. I was rushing to watch your reaction because I love this arc and I love Zoro. I don’t avoid spoilers - and this isn’t a comment on your experience with spoilers - and when I saw a clip of this moment between zoro and sanji and kuma, this was the biggest reason I decided to watch this show. I needed to get here and see it for myself. And even though I knew minute for minute what would happen, when Zoro kneels and asks “Are you absolutely insistent on taking a head?”, my stomach drops every time. Thank you for your reactions. I don’t know what happens next, so I’m excited to experience that together.

I also really hate the "nothing happened" joke. It takes away the element of surprise from that moment, but the world has too many people with poor foresight to understand that just because you don't directly reveal something about the series, doesn't mean that you aren't spoiling it when you make references like that, which inherently contains important clues about what it references. That reference alone gives many hints, and the fact that people spam it so much keeps it fresh in the reactor's heads which makes them look out for the reference even if unintentionally. Alas, because it is difficult to explain why it's a spoiler, it becomes difficult to dissuade these people with poor impulse control, practically bursting at the seams to spoil the show because they can't contain their excitement for moments like this, from using the stupid "nothing happened" joke. The worst part is that I don't even think I can bring attention to it without ruining it for the reactors because just acknowledging that it gives strong hints is also inadvertently a spoiler. 😭

Thank you for the triple drop! An excellent trio of episodes really showing how terrifying Kuma is - and how outmatched the crew is. It's amost like Moria's warning given form - I think he said something along the lines of 'you guys dont understand how terrifying it can be on the grand line, you would've lost your crew' and bam, this happens. Love, love, love Zoro, he sticks to his principles and has a very realistic view of the world he's in. He said something along the lines of "In this world when it rains trouble, it pours - is someone going to rescue me if I start complaining" - ouffff, honestly, more than the 'Nothing happened' line, I think that line hit me even more. When he was sacrificing himself, he wasn't doing it to show off or posthumous recognition, he really was doing it out of honour and to save the lives of his crew. Any action is by intention and we we're given a glimpse as to, and say what you want about it, a glimpse as to how sincere of a person he is Sorry about the spoilers. I'm not sure why people don't understand that even the vaguest of hints to future events can be considered spoilers. Im not sure what people get out of it. Im not sure how you manage your patreon, but perhaps consider having one of your trusted people moderating it. I'm a mod on another channel and we ask the reactors to leave at least 24 hrs before reading comments so they give us mods an opportunity to go through them first. If there's any spoiler, we warn the reactors in advance and also contact the person that left the comment to ask them to delete it. If that's not done, we send screenshots of the safe comments only. It's a harsh world...😅

Thriller Bark has been one of my least favorite arcs in the entire show. Watching it again with you two has been absolutely wonderful. Thank you for letting me see it through your eyes, it still isn't my favorite, but I hate it less. The "Nothing Happened" line I believe to this date is one of the coldest line in the entire Manga/Anime. Purely out matched, knowing this was the only option he dove in without hesitation. This was the episode where Zoro became my absolute favorite character in One Piece. His entire character is structured around his ambition and his drive towards reaching his goal, working on it every day (since he was defeated by Mihawk), more than anyone else on the crew, even Luffy. And here he was going to give this all up for them. This, in my opinion, means more than any other sacrifice before or after. The more I think about it, the more I love this character. Absolute Goat.

glad they got to see one of the legendary One piece scenes, unfortunate that they kind of got spoiled on it though. But yeah the cool thing about one piece is, it is so damn unpredictable to what happens next, like wham, you think they defeated that guy like in all the other arcs, and suddenly a 2nd Warlord appears with new mysterious powers, drops lore on vegapunk, and literally destroys the already weakened strawhat crew and almost killing zorro in an epic memeable scene. Who'd have thought that back then. It becomes like a rollercoaster but you having a blindfold on, you dont know what happens next and that makes one piece one of the best shonen mangas out there.

I think I might disagree that Kuma was cruel here - he was ordered to eliminate everyone who witnessed Moria's defeat but he without any prompting brought his price down to just a single life (Luffy's/Zoro's) and eventually basically ended up sparing everybody and dipping since Zoro being Zoro survived too (and Ursus Shock was terrifying but relatively non-lethal as far as nukes go). I appreciate his sense of honour in respecting Zoro's sacrifice and agreeing to spare Luffy's life in exchange for taking on his pain ; I don't think the other Warlords we've met so far would've been quite so merciful were they in his position tbh (maybe Mihawk?) Actually reminds me a lot of our first meeting with Aokiji, where there's an eerily chill, overwhelmingly powerful adversary who can't be defeated so one Strawhat takes them on in single-combat and strikes a deal with them, sacrificing themselves to ensure that the others live and in doing so are brought to the brink of death (Luffy getting frozen/ Zoro's hell bubble), but everyone ends up surviving in the end after the antagonist honours their promise and leaves

I have seen this part of the show so many times but only today I noticed something here: Zoro was probably pissed off at himself after hearing Usopp's comment about Luffy pushing himself too much and the crew not keeping up. I think he immediately though: "shit I need to be the one to do this next time". He must've been glad at how Kuma's powers worked, because Zoro was then able to step up to Luffy's level of sacrifice.

I think it's fine when it's a bit clever and "hidden"; Some other youtuber I follow commented at the end of Enies Lobby: "where are we going after this? We can't have all arcs be this intense" and there was a comment saying: "you're right about the next arc. Oda had to let us rest after this with a comedy focused arc where nothing really happens". But as soon as the arc started, comments were filled with "remember folks, nothing happens in thriller bark".

Ugh yes. Whenever I watch any One Piece reactor when they start Thriller Bark, comments are filled with “nothing happens” for the entire arc. And it’s the same people commenting each episode too. Yes we heard you the first dozen times and there are dozens of you. Not really clever or unique. It reminds me of when everyone kept saying “the cake is a lie” when Portal came out. Every react channel gets hit with the "nothing happened" memes if they get this far. Most of them aren't observant enough or don't remember it by the time they get to the moment. But Haylo and Kiss are some of the smartest and most diligent reactors out there--so of course it will affect how they view the arc! I think people are more used to braindead reactors that aren't really paying attention 🤷‍♀️

I think you should go over what the last words of Kuma again. There's a lot hidden in One Piece in their words and actions and mysteries are everywhere. Which i think you are really good at picking up. Btw, no spolier, Kuma means Bear in Japanese and Ursus (as in his attack ursus shock) means Bear in Latin. Also the reason he is my favorite character since i first read this 17 years ago.
