I can read 😂 What I mean is, he noticed the fruit in the book when he was a CHILD reading the book. He is a perv for sure, but wanting it to watch women when he was still a kid? I don't know where in the story you are...but if you're up to date it makes sense for a kid to want that fruit in his case 🤷♀️ And you gotta understand that in OP many things come back after hundreds of episodes and only make sense later. This was one of these moments for me. This is my opinion and if you only wanna focus on the pervy part of what's been said, go for it 👍

2025-02-20 01:33:47 +0000 UTCI'm not a fan of the Sanji fight 😬 I mean, visually he looks sooo cool and everything he said up to 09:19 was fine 😅 I'll keep in mind that he often says things he doesn't mean like that...even tho I'm not sure this applies here 🤔😅 On the other hand, he said he read the devil fruit book when he was little/a child...so at least we can assume that this particular use of the fruit came up later in his life and was not smth he had wanted the fruit for in the first place 🤷♀️ Anyway, not a fan of that part. But bless him for sacrificing his body for Nami (he always does but it's still sweet). Usopp is amazing! I really like his fight with Perona ❤️Sogeking is very cool too, missed his intro song a lot 🤭😁

2025-02-19 22:27:16 +0000 UTCYeah, I was kinda dreading the moment you got to this fight in the anime. This is the moment Sanji’s gag went from funny and cute to annoying in my eyes. I will say that most of the time it still remains innocent, but there are unfortunately some quite notable exceptions… I love Sanji so much and so I just try to ignore it. His character writing is truly incredible in other aspects which makes it easier to get through those not-so-great moments.

Sadly, the way the industry is structured does not allow the kind of necessary change from both the editors and the writers's perspective. I hope it will change a bit with the inclusion of more female leaders in direction in the industry (like Megumi Ichitani).

2025-02-19 17:03:27 +0000 UTCI'm not the biggest fan of this episode with Sanji. It's kind of all over the place and it clashes a little bit with his chivalrous attitude, but yeah, dude's a perv. Hahah, the sexualization will increase quite a bit over the chapters, but shonen like One Piece are usually more aimed at teenage boys, so it kind of has to be expected. It does not ruin the show in any way but can be distracting here and there if you want to focus on the plot

It is unfortunate that these tropes persist, but I think I'm right in saying this is one of the last truly pervy Sanji moments, which is a small silver lining.

I hate the Sanji fight and the harm it does to his character, but I love, love, *love* the Usopp/Perona fight. These two ridiculous cowards are such a perfect match for each other. Sogeking's appearance is brief, but he really helps Usopp calm down and analyse the situation better <3 Thank you as always for your reactions, and I hope you enjoy the rest of this fight and arc :)

2025-02-19 16:17:21 +0000 UTCYou are now witnessing one of Oda's big weakness in full. The sexualization of women and the perv trope. This is not acceptable but it's more of a product of the way the manga industry works in japan rather than just Oda's bad behavior. Mangakas will often think that by punishing bad behaviors and pervyness and calling them out in a fun way will boyz to understand how to be good to women, but they are more riding with the problem than fighting it. (And Toei will push the button of the sexualization too) Gladly, those are just specs of toxic writing in a sea of amazing stuff. Also, you should feel now that the pacing has been starting to slow down since Water seven (still shots, long pauses, looks that are 2 hours long). This is normal. It's a result of the way Toei adapted the source material and the fact that the anime tries not to catch up with the manga (around 1 year and a half between the manga and the anime). At the moment, it's subtle, but it will worsen over time. Don't worry, this should be ok as One Piece is always very heavy on informations, so it helps us to process. But if it's start to bug you, just know that it's not Oda's fault.
