Although I'm having fun with fan service when I'm watching myself or with my boys, I, too, feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed whenever I see fan service scenes that Toei exaggerates while watching with H&K. I also hate some of the perv gag in Onepiece(A child whose name starts with M). I'm just saying how Japanese subculture works and how this particular Sanji's scene is being overheated.

These comments are overreacting way too much. You guys are gonna pass out if you realize how many men/boys there are who like pervy stuff, and that's natural. It is a manga after all, where authors create their own fantasy world. There is a reason why it is called "subculture", "shonen jump", "fan service". It is a place to escape from reality and freely express your imagination. Throughout the story, Sbs you can see a lot of "men's dream", "men's romanticism" stuff(e.g. "Man should be resolutely proud", "men rushed onto the Grand Line in pursuit of romanticism"). These man/men does not mean 'menkind'. It means male(otoko). Yes, the main target for the manga(especially Onepiece) is men, more specifically 'boys'. (but of course it doesn't matter if you are a boy or not to enjoy it) I'm not saying that there is only man fantasy stuff, there are a lot of fantasy things for women too(especially Korean webtoon/manhwa does). I recommend not watching anime like Onepiece if you are so sensitive to this kind of stuff, because no matter what you say, nothing will likely change unless humankind disappears. Also, this scene doesn't even feel sexually explicit or encouraging sexual crimes. You can clearly see that the author is trying to make it silly and dumb. Even the anime and voice acting are being silly. HOWEVER, it is a problem if they think it is tolerable in the real world, or if they put it into action. It is common sense. If you are complaining because Sanji is being dumbass and not cool, I agree with it, because it is exactly what Oda is doing. If you want a character who is always cool, then yeah, Sanji is not your taste.

Oda makes it so hard for me to like Sanji sometimes. He is such a good character when he is not being reduced to his gags. Its genuinely so disappointing. Because you KNOW how good Sanji is. Like why is Oda acting like he knows so much about MYYYY Sanji . Pmo.

Whenever I get to this part with Absalom, I gotta remember that A. this is a Japanese creation and these kinds of gags are normalized B. the fact that Sanji wanted this fruit since he was a kid sounds suspiciously like it's not just skin deep C. Thriller Bark came out over a decade ago, and it really was a different time, unfortunately. This is why the idea of OPLA Sanji is near perfect. There's no way they could use that gag irl and make it work. Thanks god

Most authors make mistakes like that in the early parts of the story. Even all time GOATs like Tolkien and GRRM had some cases of "first book syndrome" Oda having to make chapter by chapter makes this even more of a problem.

One piece is flawed in a lot of regards, but in the broader strokes, themes, characters etc its pretty goated. Majority of the issues stem from the fact that it is a Shounen manga with a demographic of mainly teenage boys, and the catering to that.

Sanji has a large portion of his fanbase that is female, especially in Japan and China. I suppose they overlook this kind of gag because it is a common trait in many anime/manga characters, including protagonists.

I do not like it, but I just view it as something they slapped on to sell more issues/episodes, not as the "true essence" of the characters. One thing I hate about anime in general, and one piece in this regard, is how fucking relaxed they are about casual sexual assault as fanservice. Its sooooo cringe and does not land at all with me as humor, and is one of the only thing I find that actively detracts from characters in this show. Same thing with the brook panties thing, which while not as bad, is also just cringe to watch. That being said I love Sanji to bits, but I would personally just yk not have the fanservice "ladies man" gag that all anime forces in. Sorry for being negative, but when everything apart from that is so great, stuff like this hurts worse.

Yes, this type of "gag" is such a downfall of alot of older anime/manga, older managakas seem to love that kind of "gag" for some reason, I guess it comes down to generational differences because we don't see it as often anymore in mainstream anime, it's pretty off putting tho 😭

So this was a rare mistake by Oda Sensei. Here he says Sanji read the DF encyclopedia. But back at Baratie when Luffy fell in the water, Sanji was surprised when he learned Luffy’s power took away the ability to swim. Oda is human too after all… disappointed

Usopp is my favorite character. He faces his fears everyday while out in the sea filled with monsters and unimaginable dangers. There's a strength in that and he has it, Luffy and the crew see it, he just hasn't realize it yet.

Personally this is one of the worst Sanji moments in the series. I know it is supossed to be a gag, but it misses the mark by a lot. Equating Sanji to a villain as despicable as Absalom is just not good. But alas, it is what it is. Also, Perona vs Usopp is a great fight. Always loved it
