I think the dub and sub are equally as good. My opinion on it is that 99% of shows are better subbed, so you might as well watch the one show that is equally as good dub in dub. I admit that was a poor choice of words, I was frustrated seeing multiple people begging for the dubbed version and landed at this comment and wrote something hastily. Anyone is free to prefer whatever version they want of course. I just wanted to be one of the voices that say the subbed version is the way to go. If the majority want the dub then so be it although I'm really hoping that's not the case. I love FMA Brotherhood and the idea of my favorite reactors missing out on the depth of the original version bums me out. :(

Like you said, sub gives more leeway to add information, but dubbing has to follow mouth movement, there's literally less time to put in the appropriate expression so many times the dubbing will change it to something wildly different. Yes, subbing will never be 100% accurate, but it will always hit closer to the mark than dubbing will

Excellent point. A lot of context is removed from the dubbed, honestly, in whatever language the movie/show you're watching, im not sure why anyone would prefer dubbed over original language. I cant imagine watching a korean show, an east asian movie, indian movie, any cartoon or anime with dubbing. Im sure dubbing has gotten better over the years, but absolutely nothing replaces the original actors, who are guided by the directors and filmmakers with the original source material

@Jon There’s a considerable difference at times, mostly because the sub gives more leeway to add information. It’s less time constricted. A prominent example of this would be in the anime MHA, in S1E12, where Bakugo gives context on how he was able to figure out a certain villain’s weakness (around halfway through the episode). They straight up omit a key detail how the villain misspoke so he could figure out the weakness in sub, where Bakugo in the dub just figured it out because of… looks, or something. I don’t like that. I have more examples of this, and it just kind annoys me to the point that I’d rather watch shows in their original audio. It’s not just more accurate translation wise, but also more culturally accurate.

This is generally just influenced by whatever you watched first. This is me bickering with my friend about DBZ dub vs sub where he watched the sub, and I the dub. There’s a bias involved because of what you’re used to. I bet a lot of dub fans are native English speakers, while most praising the sub are not, since they’re more likely to have watched sub (as we are used to subs). But yeah big sub fan. Prefer it in the original country of origin’s audio. This goes for any country. It’s why I wouldn’t watch a Japanese dub of the last airbender either. Sometimes context is removed from dubs because the dub language is unable to provide the same context in a different language. I don’t like that. You’re less likely to miss context with subs (unless you have trouble reading subs).

The story behind Vinland Saga is pretty good, including what’s next in the manga, but the story is really slow. Like really, really slow. I stopped watching after a few episodes on the first watch, then picked it up again later. Thought it was mid at first, but after catching up to the last episode it has a really solid underlying message. But the anime format doesn’t add much except for some tracks from the OST. Animation is ok, but there’s not a lot happening. I enjoyed the manga more.

Did you completely miss the point where I said that if the show is overrated hype train I wouldn't care but if the show is really really good and they would like to watch it anyway, might as well capitalize on said hype train? Omg so excited to see FMA on the list! Just my two cents that as someone who always watches anime in Japanese sub, FMA and Death Note are usually better enjoyed in English dub. The voice actors do a phenomenal job, and I think for a lot of OG anime fans, it holds a special nostaglia in their hearts.

I’ve seen fmab and it’s a great watch but no other show has as complex of a main character as thorfinn. Going from revenge and hatred to emptiness to regret and despair to rebirth and acceptance is what really puts this show above everything else. It’s just that good man it is what it us

Just a bit of input for FMA, in case it wins. The English dub is incredible. Personally, I normally wouldn't care either way when I'm watching most anime, so long as the story's good. But Full Metal Alchemist is one of the few anime that I would wholeheartedly recommend you watch in dub. Even though it's almost 2 decades old at this point, the dub is one of the best I've ever seen for any anime. Obviously the choice is yours, and I'll still enjoy your reactions to it either way, just wanted to give my two cents.

Advise against Death Note. I’ve followed a few other channels that watched it and it usually starts of good but towards back half, viewers tend to drop. FMAB is consistent the whole way through and is better from start to finish

Vinland saga is really good, the story is great and gets really deep near season 2, and its loosely based off of real viking age history. It is in a newer animation and the art is top tier. No hate to the other shows, but the graphics, tho good, are still a bit dated.

It's a brilliant anime. Although, FMAB:Brotherhood is also amazing, and yeah a must watch. I can't wait for when they do react to Death Note though. FMA:B is almost as much a cult classic as One Piece is, at least in the west. Immaculate writing, and although it's not my personal favourite, I think you'd love the story and characters, as so many others have. Vinland Saga is dark and gruesome, and really interesting. While the show is awesome, do take into consideration that it is not finished, while both the others are. Death Note in my mind is almost overrated. I do not know that you'd love the slow, technical writing of the characters, but maybe you enjoy a mystery? While not technically a mystery, it is a psychological journey with not much levity. I guess my verdict is that it is not as fun as the other two, although great in its own right.

the only reason to vote against Full metal is if you never seen it, vinland is good but fall off by the end, death note is a classic but nowere near the level of quality in writing as FMA. trust me, some poeple rank it even higher than one piece for a reason

I dont read the manga so its good to know that it came out earlier than FMA. But i can definitely say there's a recency bias with Vinland Saga as second season came out in '23. In a woman's perspective, Season 1 was good, but when Season 2 came out with the shift in tone, I think I definitely fell in love with VS then. It definitely has a recency bias since it was only released abt 2 yrs ago, compared to FMAB that concluded in 2010. Just my opinion

I think one thing people need to think about is what shows these women would actually enjoy, not only because it's your favorite anime. Seeing them genuinely react to shows because they're good and engaging is what we want from them. Please consider the type of genres and themes your favorite anime has (not just from this poll) and think of this is something they would genuinely want to watch or you just want to see them react to, even negatively.

Don't take me wrong. Those older ones are classics but we as patreon should also be supporting the ladies to identify the hype trains right now : all of the shows I mentioned have seasons coming out and have hype trains to gain new members and support them. Then when the seasons are done we can fill the anime downtime with our oldies but goodies. And it's not like the newer shows are overhyped and bad, they're overhyped but good.
