2025-01-03 02:50:37 +0000 UTCExactly, here's the other thing I noticed too is that Gorilla said it was a traveling mage and in Ep 2 it looks like he ended up opening a business for it. What became of him is unknown but if he opened up in Fern's hometown then he was killed alongside everyone else.

I’m guessing the spell necessary to take photos is not well known yet since people don’t seem to know much about it, so not many mages do it. Now that I think about it, it’d be the perfect business… Can you imagine being the sole person capable of taking photographs? I wouldn’t share the trick to capture images with anyone.

First we’re told dwarves have a life expectancy of around 300 years and Old Man Voll has been protecting the village for around 400 (we don’t even know if he’s much older), so he’s already defying the normal life expectancy of his own kind. Him developing dementia and/or other illnesses is only normal at such a high age. His memory loss is further implied by the fact that he doesn’t even remember his wife’s face, eyes or voice. So all in all, when he assumed the Demon King hadn’t been defeated, I think he truly just forgot and is forgetting slowly.

But in the statue, Kraft is a warrior. My pet theory is that after his unknown human priest partner passed away, he took up his robes and faith in memory of his late partner.

And it's strongly hinted that Voll truly does have dementia in the present day, Frieren was just mistaking it for him being a jokester (it's possible he truly did use to joke around a bunch in the past before gradually losing more and more of his memory)
