that wouldn’t ruin him for me at all, in the same way that it doesn’t make me feel like Zoro is invalidated because he is when it comes to directions, essentially completely incapable. if you were to look at that behaviour through a really serious lens, you could say stuff along the lines of “he’s putting the crew in danger, that’s morally wrong”, and if one piece was the real world you would be correct. it’s, in my opinion, the exact same thing with the Sanji gag. i understand that it’s a little uncomfortable, i’m just saying that to completely overlook the cultural difference (although i will say you personally didn’t do that), and to evoke those kinda words in THIS specific context- seems a little much. that’s all.

^^ i think bpet summed it up perfectly, there’s lots of behaviour that happens in the show, which is clearly meant for comedy, and which is vastly received that way. i agree with your take on sexism in Japan and it’s undoubtedly an issue- but to bring it up in THIS context is inappropriate imo for a few reasons. 1. Oda is actually super progressive, especially considering he was raised in Japan, with themes about racism, lgbt characters, lots of strong female characters etc- so to even evoke the words you did to describe one of his characters; for stupid gags he wrote, does feel kinda wack. 2. I find it to be a little inappropriate from the perspective that the topic you’re talking about, is so incredibly sensitive, and to bring that topic up fairly randomly, and about something which is so obviously not impacting victims etc, feels like it’s cheapening how serious of an issue that is; when what you’re talking about is clearly just a silly, culturally normal gag, from a manga that was written a long time ago too. comes across as kinda bizarre to bring it up here, and a little disrespectful. just my take.

Its so strange to me how people always takes Sanjis gag so seriously. Nami regularly beats the living shit out of the crew when she is angry. Thats basically domestic violence but no one ever talks about it, why? Because it is obviously just a gag and not meant to be taken seriously, just like what Sanji is doing is.

@jamie I acknowledged the fact that is common, but that does not mean it is to be discarded or accepted at goodwill. It may be a cultural difference, but Japan has a huge problem with sex culture, especially in regards to predatory behavior, so it is a cultural difference I feel free to call out. Its rather pathetic imo. Idk I just do not get the "pervy" humor that is so frequent in most animes, it reminds me of family guy or smth you would watch when you were 13 and it really only detracts from the show overall. Not much to say about this episode except that Zoro is so cool. I LOVE this look of his, like he's clearly more jacked than 100 eps ago and showing off that scar, damn that's badass. Im glad as we go on the author gives their characters their due, theyre not newbies anymore, I mean they're challenging the world govt., and that's a huge deal.
