Obviously this isn’t a Targaryen restoration fic, but the easiest fix is Jon marrying Dany. Tywin will bitch and moan, but Owen can and should money whip him into submission.

2025-03-20 16:29:40 +0000 UTCI've always hated that fanon notion that Robert smiled when Tywin presented him with the dead bodies of Elia, Rhaenys and Aegon. It's a line often misused from Barriston Selmy where he thinks to himself IF Robert had smiled that day he would've cut him down despite the oath he just gave him as a Kingsguard. In canon Robert just told Ned during heat of argument that he sees no babes, only dragonspawn. Nothing about Robert smiling or laughing like some 2d cartoon villain exists in the actual text. Also it's super weird that Robert is now acting like some jealous teen that Owne is more popular than him. Robert is supposed to be a drunk depressed whoremonger who no longer really cares for anything and is just drinking and whoring himself to death by this point in the original timeline.

Though this is a massive turning point regardless, as I don’t see Owen obeying regardless. So 1) Ned disobeys his king and creates a clear division between the North and the rest of the kingdoms, or 2) Ned obeys and causes a split within the North itself. Owen has too much power and influence at this point, so that’ll play out however he wills. He could leave and build a new home somewhere else, seize control of the North from the Starks, or something else entirely. Not really sure what he would choose, tbh. I feel like leaving the North entirely would be the smartest decision. Building his own place, where he answers to no one, is the only thing that makes true sense. He’s simply too powerful, at this point, for truly serve under someone else. Anytime he truly disagrees with his liege, he has the power to disobey without consequence.
