E234 - Rescuing Our Friend! Raid On the Franky House!
E235 - Big Fight Under the Moon! the Pirate Flag Flutters With Sorrow!
E236 - Luffy vs. Usopp! Collision of Two Men's Pride!

This was heartbreaking!! 💔
We are devastated. Please enjoy as we drown in our tears by the end of these eps. No clue where this is headed as usual but, as some of you have said, we will trust in Oda! There is so much room for character growth after this and we're excited to see what's next. (Hoping that we'll ALL be back together soon.) Really happy that we watched and posted these 3 at once.
Thanks so much for watching with us and we'll see you soon for the next one!

I cried so much the first time watching these eps back then. It felt surreal like this was an alternate timeliness we got stuck in. If the live action adaptation ever gets here, I think it will be even more impactful.

Manting Xiong

Usopp's behavior got a lot of hate from fans but I stand for his feelings as someone who's fought with anxiety and low self-esteem. Imagine you've been feeling useless for a while. But most importantly, you think your friends are secretly feeling the same. You're trying so hard not to fall behind but you're not as talented as the others. So you grabbed onto the one thing that you're better at than the others: repairing the Merry. But even that's going away. The only thing (from Usopp's pov) that proved your worth is now deemed useless. These negative thoughts were like a ticking time bomb. Usopp may have gone too far with his emotions but that's how self-sabotaging gets you. I think Oda did an amazing job portraying such a complex emotion.

Flora

This is the moment One Piece stops being just great and starts being the best story ever told in manga

Arthur Lima

i remember Gojo told Yuji that his friends would be so excited to see him that someone would barf...i didnt think it was kiss lmao

Jade

So uh did you enjoy editing this one? haha

DevilWearsAdidas

When it comes to this episode, I always remember that they're still just kids at this point (I think they're both 17) and all of them are still growing and maturing, so this kind of thing was bound to happen.

MAY

😂😭

Haylo

funny enough, the first clip I ever saw of this show was the luffy usopp fight (just the fight). My thoughts were "wow, this seems dumb, who even watches this?" 10 years later when I had finally started watching and got to this part, was on the verge of tears the entire time. What a show.

Faris

Real bruh

Harrison Veal

Chill with the expectation spoilers, man. They've said repeatedly that they don't like people doing that.

Dark_Eternal

The storytelling is insane with one piece.

Sioi Salt

You're gonna need more boxes of tissues FYI.

Robbie Medica

Yes, Ussop is not understanding that the lives of the crew depend on the ships ability to sail. Or maybe he does understand it, and he also feels he can't be trusted to be relied on to protect the lives of the crew, because he just lost their money.

Robbie Medica

In a way ships and people are the same. If the ship can't be trusted to sail anymore, it puts the crews life at risk. And if a member can't be trusted anymore, it also puts the crews life at risk.

Robbie Medica

this has to be luffys hardset fight ever. forget him battling crocodile and dying like 3 times. this one here hurt im way harder then any villain ever could emotionally that is

Gerald

Since we as viewers also don't want to lose the Merry, it's easy to immediately side with Usopp, but Luffy is slowly growing into his responsibility as a captain, too. I think Iceberg telling him how irresponsible he is if he continues like this also played a big role in it, because we saw Luffy have the exact same reaction as Usopp at first, the "you guys don't understand Merry, I don't care what you say, we'll continue sailing on her!" tantrum. Same with Usopp, yeah he has a stronger bond with the Merry than the others, but the feeling of inadequacy is the real issue at hand, and wouldn't have been resolved by just telling Usopp that it's okay, that he's a treasured member of the crew and isn't holding anyone back. He needs to find that confidence in himself, words are meaningless when you're in that state of mind already where you convinced yourself that you're the weakest link and everyone is just waiting for a chance to get rid of you :x

MrMegaman94

Luffy's casual way of telling Usopp about the Merry was a bad attempt to cover up his own feelings about leaving the Merry. I think it was such a tough decision for him that he wanted to suppress his sadness. It wasn't being inconsiderate of Usopp, he was just trying his best to cope with a tough decision he had to take. At least, that's how I see it.

Lucia Petrozzi

These episodes feel like a sad version of LRLL, where we lost two of our members, one of which was Robin. That's not a coincidence imo, as LRLL was foreshadowing a much deeper and serious situation where the crew starts to fall apart. I was crying with you, girls. Keep your tissues close...

Lucia Petrozzi

The pain 💔

rina.

That was so hard to watch originally and never gets easier but I liked it because this is one of first hard decisions luffy has to make because being a captain not always funny and laughing And the vice captain also appears (i said enough)

daniel

I think it is frustrating how Luffy first communicates to Usopp about moving on from Merry and how that whole argument unfolds. But on rewatch I think the idea is that Luffy is trying his best to be optimistic, while being avoidant on the harsh truth because it’s extremely painful. I think it’s clear that the Merry isn’t just a ship to them, even more than a place where they call home, it’s their dear friend. And at this moment it seems like their friend will be passing away soon. It’s also Luffy really navigating these aspects of being a captain for the first time, being a leader and making tough decisions, instead of just leading the charge and inspiring people to follow him. And also don’t forget Luffy and Usopp are literally 17 years old, they’re still stumbling through maturing and getting experience as adult men in a dangerous world. And as much as we’re frustrated with how Usopp acted, I can respect that he had the drive to duel Luffy, a legitimate powerhouse of a fighter that we know will overwhelmingly win, but he did it because he believed he should. It’s bravery.

MeteorJuice

you're right.

one of the best fights in OP for me..the emotions..the reality..and also, one of the best lines of Zoro to Luffy as being a captain..

arch. joeff

the kind of "i already watched gimme attention" internet moron

Luiz Gustavo

everything in this saga is epic

Felipe Campos

Sanji kicked him before he could finish, but in the heat of the moment, Luffy did tell Usopp that he could leave if he wanted. We know he didn't mean it in that way, but Usopp interpreted it in the same way Luffy is replacing the Merry, and that's what spurred this duel. Zoro tried to calm them down before it got there, but the emotions were high and it slipped and Luffy made his bed and he had to see it through. That's why he didn't back down. Zoro explained it at the end. If Luffy wavers, then they can't fully trust Luffy as a captain to make the tough choices. He needs to own up to his mistakes and that's what happened here. In the same way Usopp also has to follow through with him walking out. They can't just talk it out because the line has to be drawn somewhere. Usopp's was on the Merry being replaced and he has to stand his ground to prove his word. Amazing character work by Oda. Water 7 is peak One Piece.

BaTe0o7

Yasss

Vaby da Kat

OK but it didn't have to come to a duel in the first place.

draeonic 🪼

its interesting seeing other cultures say things like " this don't have to happen" or " why is this happening".. my people were heavily influenced by the Japanese and one thing i noticed is that ALOT of the world has lost honor. now adays, you can say anything and not follow up about it and people will just say " maybe he's injured, or had a long day" but the Japanese are very honorable. the epitome of "A Man's WORD is His HONOR". a duel is something not to be played with. so Luffy is simply honoring Usopp's Heart. Honor amongst Men, if you will.

Oba D. Kux

I don't understand why people pay to be Patreon and then ruin their own experience.

CacoMetal

Please stop spoiling

CacoMetal

Please stop spoiling.

CacoMetal

That's fair, there's probably also a better way to phrase that. What I meant was not telling him immediately that the decision was already made, so he'd have some time to ease into the idea (which everyone else had). But however you see it it's lying to him, which isn't good either... tough situation for everyone :(

draeonic 🪼

This was THE moment One Piece became real for me. I was watching this over Thanksgiving last year while on holiday with my family, and I have such wonderful memories of just hanging with the fam during the day, and then binge watching this arc at night. Enjoy every minute!!

Stephen Davila

Favorite Arc by far, this one really showed how serious the show can be.

Ewokid

At the end of Skypiea, when Haylee said that she couldn't wait to see what Usopp will do with all the dials.... I'm sure all the One Piece fans were thinking about this exact moment. Peak emotions in these few episodes and cannot wait for what's to come. Trust in ODA lol

Playahater101

hey what's up with the captions?

Neutron Dance

Come on bruh, what are you doing…

Mister Kap

It's so sad Ussop sees himself in Merry that he's been outgrown by the grandline.

Dale Cooper

There are a few moments as harsh as this in One Piece going forward, but I promise that the payoff will be worth it.

RobG

It's one of the reasons I hate people asking reactors to just skip it. Bro we have emotional bookends we need the silly to decompress.

Dale Cooper

Isn't Water 5 after the G4 arc?

Kyle T

He for sure could have phrased it differently, or explained situation without acting cheery and brushing it off while looking for a new ship. But I disagree that "It would have been best to tell Usopp 'the shipwright said Merry can no longer sail, I don't know what to do' " Zoro would have (rightfully) lost respect for him; we can't have a captain act weak like that. He does know what to do, and he needs to make the call.

Kyle T

No foreshadowing pls.

Kyle T

💜

PB CX

Sandi has always shown to have great emotional intelligence. I first noticed when he told Chopper that Luffy was a monster.

David Tang

The other day when you guys posted your Q&A and kiss said Usopp was her fave, I have been silently waiting for this episode! I tear up whenever I see this episode

JustSomeGuy

Water 7 is full steam ahead!

LoneCourier21

Luffy wasnt wrong for the choose of the Merry, just how he handled the situation with Usopp. Both were indeed wrong.

Dandy Zoran

The awful thing about the Aokiji encounter is that Usopp put himself at risk and saved Robin's life, and doesn't even credit himself for it because he didn't Fight.

draeonic 🪼

I cried so much I love it.

Alexander Ehrhardt

It's the first time "find the right person to beat up" isn't a possible solution, and he doesn't know how to deal with it. :(

draeonic 🪼

At least I can cry along with you both 😭🫠

Amber Benjamin

Luffy has gone Captain Mode a couple of times (usually on Zoro), but his orders have never been this disagreeable. I do think, however, that he had to make that decision on his own. If it had been up to the crew, some would have agreed with the shipwrights (definitely Zoro, probably Sanji and maybe Nami), thus giving Luffy the freedom to settle into his denial because someone else was being the 'responsible' one. And he was just told he was a bad captain (which is something he tends to listen to) for staying in that denial. So he cut to the heart of the problem by making the decision on his own, and in the same move saved the others from having to take that responsibility. Captain's call. Can't be helped. Having made the decision... It would have been best to tell Usopp "the shipwright said Merry can no longer sail, I don't know what to do" and give him time to accept it, but Luffy can't lie to save his life AND was trying to cheer Usopp up about the lost money. As for Usopp, he's projecting a lot of his feelings of uselessness on the situation and, if not overreacting, at least not giving himself the time to think things through. So while I think a lot of the responsibility for the fight is on Luffy, some of it does fall on Usopp. (Also. Nami could have told Usopp the ship wasn't fixable before he went to the Franky House, and she knows about Usopp's feelings of inadequacy better than anyone. I don't want to blame her for this but gnnnn, bad decisions all around.)

draeonic 🪼

I CANNOT EFFIN WAIT, i feed on other people's reaction to sad stuff.

HotShame

I’ve seen the suggestion before that Zoro and Sanji are basically the mom and dad of the crew. Maybe this episode is where that theory originated…The no nonsense, tough love dad and the caring, protective mom.

Leighton

Robin would have just locked both of their jaws until they either calmed down or passed out and no one would have stopped her

draeonic 🪼

Zoro's the spine, holding everything together

draeonic 🪼

LRLL is much needed levity between Skypiea and this lol

Ben W

I don’t cry at funerals, but somehow Usopp vs Luffy makes me tear up….emotions are weird

Leighton

And this isnt even the tip of the iceberg on whats gonna happen

Morgan Hellström

please continue to watch 3 episodes, this part of one piece is amazing!

alessio sgammini

Welcome to what we call moments of Pain Piece. Oda really is a master of writing of human emotions

Ryan Searle

NGL, I totally forgot about Bon Clay sacrificing himself in Alabasta lol

Jonas do Prado

It is a nice subtle detail for both Sanji and Zoro. Especially for Sanji since he always put Nami and Robin first than the guys but deep down, he still cares deeply about the boys in the crew.

Zannen Da

And that's why is important the Foxy episodes...It gets you into the idea that at any moment you could lose a nakama

grafael

Also, it’s def not the focus of the ep, but i find it really interesting how we see the dynamic of zoro and sanji with luffy. like sanji kicking luffy and telling him to be mindful of what he’s saying before luffy tells ussopp to leave the crew, and zoro being calm and rational and telling luffy not to waver. like sanji seems to help luffy regulate his emotions and think about his words and how they can affect others, whereas zoro holds him accountable as a captain and reminds him of his responsibilities. sanji is like the heart, and zoro is like the mind. idk if this made sense but it really jumps out to me upon rewatching that episode. great reaction as always, hope you guys didn’t get a headache from crying so hard 🥲🫶🏻

sim0ne

omg i tried watching this on my lunch break at work and had to stop and save it for when I got home bc i couldn’t stop myself from crying along with you guys 🤣💔

sim0ne

I still count Bon Clay's sacrifice at Alabasta as Luffy crying.

Veritas

and part of what makes these moments so incredible is the depth of characters, worldbuilding, and storytelling that takes place over hundreds of episodes. It makes you almost feel the impact of these episodes as if you're an actual member of the crew!

The Otter Man

I have not made the count yet...I only know that 248, 249 and 250 must be seen together too

grafael

Whenever i hear people say One Piece is too long to get into i think of episodes like these ones that make the whole thing worth it.

Geo

In my defense, my name is a reference to "Franky Goes To Hollywood". Nothing to do with the reprehensible Franky Family! Don't get mad at me, ok?!?!

Franky H

241-243 if possible even 244 should be watched together it holds a lot of information you might forget if you watch them separately 244 not so much but it still correlates with the info from 241-243

SamuraiAtlas

Remember all the fun we had during the Foxy arc ? Yeah those were the good times.

Mike Drop

I wasn’t lying when I said the mighty tears that will be shed

SamuraiAtlas

Usopp also doesn't communicate his stuff well, but I can't comment much about this without using spoilers.

Hudell

The eyes catcher at the worse moment everytime 😭😂

Shimini

Welp I deff uglied cried with u guys at the end lol what an ep and heart break..

Stix

The “Luffy, help me” moment from Nami in the Arlong Park Arc was my favorite until this episode. Heartbreaking but such amazing storytelling.

Jayof

Robin hasn't even been gone a full day and the crew starts to fall apart. Don't be embarrassed about crying at these episodes. I'm a grown ass man and I still break every time I see Luffy's tears. The fact that he's usually so carefree makes the serious moments hit that much harder. Some others have already said it, but 241-243 should be watched together, or at the very least 242 and 243. Great reaction as always, can't wait for next week!

Molto_Benny

With Robin and Usopp gone it's Water 5 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

draeonic 🪼

For this Halloween season, I really wanna recommend them watch One Piece Movie 6: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.

Zannen Da

remember refrain from spoiling & hinting everyone

ahn sohee ᥫ᭡

lol fr, they are gonna need to restock on tissues watching both these arcs at the same time.

Adam Aucoin

This is one of, if not my absolute, favorite fights in all of one piece. Even to this day. Usopp is one of my favorite characters and I always loved the ingenuity of this fight and the emotion behind it.

Dotty

We really do need mom Robin here 😢

Adil

So many things I would like to comment but can't figure out a way to do it without spoilers. Once you end this arc I would love if you two reacted to your own comments from this video.

Hudell

Amazing. I don't like thowing the word masterpiece around, but this entire setpiece here was just perfect. Who knew that the fragility of friendship could be painted in such a pure and beautiful way. We felt everything Oda wanted us to feel in this moment. And just when I thought I got through the rewatch without tears, Zoro delivers those lines at the end of the duel, and my eyes immediately water. This is where you see the value of the quieter moments in the series, because without those, the current situation hits less hard. The tones of insecurity and pride in Usopp; the resolve in Luffy after considering Iceberg's words; the peacekeeping (well attempted lol) from everyone else; the loyalty and empathy towards the captain from Zoro. Masterpiece.

Ante

"That was so epic I almost threw up" should be on a T-shirt!

Kat7ra

That’s why it hurt so bad, seeing him crying

Regie Khemvisay

Usopp my fav character--these eps always hurt

Juan Gomez

Finally! One of the most anticipated moments for me, the Usopp Luffy fight. Halylee is right, it did not need to happen. And while most usually seem to blame Usopp, I blame Luffy. Usopp was at the lowest he ever was and here is Luffy acting all carefree, announcing his decision as a captain to dump the Merry. Couldn't that wait? Luffy himself was in denial when he learned about the Merry and he needed hours to let it sink in. Usopp, who cares more for the Merry (literally) than anyone, should've been given the same courtesy. He should've met with shipwrights the next day, let them explain in detail. His heavily bruised ego and his feeling of inadequacy would still be there and needed to be dealt with/overcome eventually, but the fight that caused him to leave the crew could've been avoided. Another thing to consider, in regards to the argument that Usopp just doesn't accept Luffy as his captain: Luffy is like Usopp's goofy BFF. His "playmate". And this may have been the first time he pulled rank on Usopp (or any crew member for that matter) in a serious setting. Which is why Usopp sounded so disappointed saying "why do you act all captain-like", "Luffy, I misjudged you". As much as Zoro wants Luffy to act like a captain and for the crew to respect Luffy and his decisions as the captain, that's not how it works. That's not how the Strawhats work. Sanji kicking Luffy to shut him up, even if it was for his own good, wouldn't be happening in a regular captain/crew relationship. The Strawhats are more close friends/family than crew. But at the end of the day things had to happen just the way they happened, so things can play out as Oda intended. Otherwise it wouldn't be Oda's story and we all would've been robbed of some of the best drama in television.

B.G.

GL in this arc.

Mojira

Its called water 7 because of all the tears. Great reaction ladies!

Alexander Tonkins

Sharp as ever, amazing analysis at the end! These episodes are some of my favorites despite it being a hard watch every time. Amazing writing and you guys never disappoint with the reactions either

chance

It’s so rare for a writer to be able to write an argument where you feel for and understand both sides. It’s so real. It didn’t have to be this way, which is so so real that it hurts.

Isaac Ahlquist

haylo about usopp seeing himself in merry. she just gets it 😭

ricenicc

I know people say this about literally every arc, but this is the moment for me where I really began to consider One Piece an all time great. We've already seen Oda commit, *in my opinion*, storytelling flubs like keeping Pell alive in Alabasta because he didn't want to commit to deaths. Seeing him have the guts to actually write a rift in the crew like this made me respect him more and slightly forgive all the times characters definitely should have died but didn't.

Flubbedsquid

Oh, these episodes? Lemme get my crying robe

Jon Clarke

Watching Water Seven Arc and the Shibuya Arc is definitely gonna hit you in the feelings.

Zannen Da

Whenever I see those episodes I just get so incredibly frustrated. I get that it's an emotional time for everyone, I get that Usopp feels humiliated, having just lost the money, and that he's feeling weaker than the rest, but he really went to far. Luffy's way of telling him about the money really wasn't great, but Luffy also is just a teen, trying to deal with the decision to leave the Merry. Like you guys said, I really just want to grab and shake them, and force them to just talk.

AiraKT

I believe this is the first time we see grown up Luffy cry. We have seen Luffy mad or even upset, but this is the first time he is put in a situation where he doesn't have a clear answer. He usually is the ray of hope of the show, so seeing him like this makes things even worse. Also, big props for Sanji in these episodes. His kindness and empathy are really well displayed here. Can't wait for the next episodes

Jonas do Prado

Ur local tissue store will know u by the name. Cause keep them on deck😂😂 I love ur reactions. Brings me back to my first time watching

Jack Collins

241-243 need to be watched together

Well. Offically. Welcome to water 7. It only ramps up from here on out. You guys are the BEST to watch with

Jack Collins

Y’all are adorable 😭

Chubby Ofuokwu

i always wait for ep 227 to make the switch from youtube to patreon but i didn't realize that you were this far already 😭 oh well the full lenght long ring long land binge to get caught up begins!...🙌

Combatnoodlez

Damn, it is so painful. Few manga or anime hit on losing a proper, established friend like this. So realisticallty for a man too. <3

Daniel Atkinson

You guys have fantastic reading comprehension. You're picking up on things that I had never connected until I was caught up and watching analysis videos. "Ussop is comparing himself to the Merry" is a great example of that. Just wanted to point out a detail that feels intentional but I never see anyone talk about this. Nami being the one to try to stop the fight and then saying "I feel like the group is falling apart," is extra sad because she feels like she's losing the only stability she's had since Arlong attacked her village.

cankoo

Gotta get something good to eat; this is going to be one enjoyable watch!

Jakob

This gets an automatic like and I haven't even started the reaction yet 😅

adrian zavala

The moments like these really drive home just how incredible a story teller Oda is. The depth of these characters and our affinity towards them is just amazing to me. On its face, this is such a silly story, but then you hit a moment like this and it reminds us of what it is to be human. Oda is a damned genius.

Chris M

Man, I was so excited to see the triple drop notification thinking this is gonna be fun. Ended up in tears yet again.

Karanjot Singh

Yall finally broke!!! Yeah these are a gnarly few eps. This arc is about to go crazyyy

Ian

peak reactors watching peak!

Josh Travis

For Usopp, Aokiji was a heavy reality check, where he looks at what's expected ahead and feels that he is not up to the challenge...the parallel with Merry is just the last nail to his insecurities

grafael

This fight is way too real, I’ve seen it with my friends, I’ve been in against my friend because of immaturity, insecurities, and pride. Not only the writing but the fights in One Piece are so creative as well. And the way he positions his characters and their body language are so on point, Zoro and Sanji turning their backs because they don’t want see their captian crying because they respect him as a captain, and Luffy only cried when Ussop can’t see him.

NUCKY

The Merry crying scene hits hard. I've seen this multiple times and read it in the manga and I still feel a knot in my throat when this happens. I hate that Oda is so good.

Kunal Pawar

I think he was ashamed too, consistently falling to do things.

LUÍS FERNANDO GOIS LOBÃO

The fact that luffy’s best friend on the ship is usopp makes this moment even worse

Wsgyan

Ussop is more attached to the ship for various reasons It was gift from Kaya He is the one that has been repairing it He sees himself in the ship The fact that the ship couldn't keep up with Luffy's adventures, it's the same for him. He has a spiritual connection to the ship. My understanding is that Ussop was afraid of being left behind, being abandoned, so he leaves before that happens.

LUÍS FERNANDO GOIS LOBÃO

I’ve usually found it hard to get into One Piece reactions, I’m not sure why but other reactions just don’t click with me for some reason - but there’s something about you two that makes rewatching the series very enjoyable. I only discovered your channel recently from watching your one piece live action reactions, and I distinctly remember the moment in maybe episode 6 or 7 where you turn to each other and are like “do you want to watch the anime?” and enthusiastically agreed. I think you remind me of the joy and emotions I felt when I was watching the series for the first time too.

Franky E

I knew the tissues were coming out. That last episode breaks everyone

YonkoJoe

Crying a long with you guys Omg

Trish

Also thank you for the triple drop. It was important to see these in one go for that little arc of seeing the crew go to beat down the people who beat up Ussopp and then the argument and fight just after it

fr0st

If the next uploads are all 2 episodes each, ep. 241-243 should definitely be uploaded together

Snowman9712

It really does feel like the crew is falling apart, what with Robin mysteriously just being gone without a word and now Ussopp being beaten so badly and then leaving the crew and fighting a duel with Luffy to solidify the parting

fr0st

When you said "Having the responsibility to make big decisions like that is like a burden too." 🥺🥺

I had to comment for 2nd time, just saw you posted 3 episodes including Luffy vs Usop 😂 What a blessing. I have been waiting for this reaction since you said Usop is your fav strawhat. Enjoy this arc. While others like future arc better, this arc is what makes One Piece my bias. The GOATest arc for me. The most roller coster one.

Muhammad Sulaiman Sunar

That scene inside the ship with Luffy and Usopp arguing is one od the best and realest moments between the strawhat crew. And its one of the very few scenes I can think of that takes place inside
