Trying to avoid burnout
Added 2025-01-21 06:48:27 +0000 UTCSo next patreon chapter will be tomorrow or Thursday.
To all those supporters joining in, thank you so much and welcome. Most are coming form QQ i guess.
If you'd like to help with the story, please drop a list of what you want to see discussed in the meeting between Owen and starks and the south and who should be in the meeting and who should not be there

2025-01-22 13:11:54 +0000 UTCI hope that Owen and the Starks set boundaries and dont just give away all their shit for free or feel pressured; they have the upper hand and the negotiations should reflect that. Nobody takes shit from the other kingdoms but they will want to now that the north has goodies; idk from a story prespective I hope you toe that line well. thanks for the chapter :)

2025-01-22 13:10:46 +0000 UTCDon't push yourself so hard that you burn out. It's a delicate balance, so always take some time to relax a bit and get away from the keyboard/screen. Hmmm... discussions will, of course, have to be about the technology/magical resources/weapons/etc. With how you've set up the story, one of the biggest issues will be the fact that the North was minting its own coin. You'll also need to show if the North has been paying its fully owed taxes, withholding a certain amount to turn over to the crown when their situation was finally revealed, or just cheating on the amount owed. I'm curious which route you will choose here, as that will dictate the response from the South more than anything. It feels like there will have to be multiple meetings held for this: first, a meeting between Ned, Owen, and the King/Hand. I would expect Tywin and Cersei to try and horn in on it, but it would make more sense for Ned to refuse. Settle the big stuff between he and Robert first. Then there could be a bigger meeting between them and the Lords Paramount/Wardens. I expect the Tullys would also want a separate meeting as family. Which would make everyone want their own meeting! 😂😄 Obviously, this is all you, and how you want to play it. These are just my thoughts and how it might go! I would say that Owen and Ned should stand their ground as best as possible, as there seems to be little the South can offer the North at this time. Thanks for all your hard work here!

2025-01-21 16:37:33 +0000 UTCBecause this is the correct way if Owen wants to make sure the Power of the North remains uncontested: that's how the British Empire did it: they gave part of their technologies and weaponry to his colonies in exchange of such heavy concessions and poitical power in the local scenarios, while also keeping a strong grip on such resources or equipment.

2025-01-21 16:34:23 +0000 UTCThey shouldnt share anything! If any individual kingdoms had what the Starks and the North have right now they wouldn't share it. Last time i checked the Game of Thrones is still on. Individual houses and whole kingdoms pursue any and every advantage they can get, and only engage in trade and betrothals when there is a benefit to be gained, either with an Alliance (Tullys marrying into house Stark and Arryn, formalising the STAB alliance) Robert Marrying Cersei to gain Lannister gold as a resource and Tywin to fulfil his ambitions of having his blood on the iron throne. You don't give these away for nothing!! And gold is nothing when you have auto-replenishing mines And in this fic the south has absolutely nothing to offer, when the North at this point could lay waste to to South 1 v 6! As Cersei said: When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die and the North is defo winning right now!

2025-01-21 16:25:17 +0000 UTCI like the idea of instant recall runes and hefty southern concessions. Better than my idea of just price gouging them through the roof.

2025-01-21 16:20:30 +0000 UTCFood, medicine, gold, some infrastructure improvements and some goods are fine to share imo, but they must be firm with weapons/military assets. Owen could make excuses about how dwarven constructs can only operate in the North or within a certain range of him. Give some talk about the Old Gods not permitting it or some shit. He can easily give staged demonstrations. And for improved weapons, price gouge them so that only a handful of houses can ever obtain them (besides as gifts). As for ships, some people already commented that it is a Lord’s prerogative to maintain personal fleets. Use that to keep them in the North. If the south (Stannis especially) whines, just promise them that the North will contribute in routing any forms of piracy in both seas, but with ships flying Northern sails only. As for Joffrey and Arya... Lol, I doubt Owen or Ned would even need to lift a finger if it happens. That’ll be a disaster on its own. If and when an incident occurs (IE Arya kicks the inbred fop in the balls) Cersei will probably rage and cry regardless of her father’s pressure, so Ned can easily pull out of the betrothal. I know some of these reasons are kinda flimsy, but if anything it can show how the North is putting its foot down.

2025-01-21 16:12:45 +0000 UTCLet's adress the elephant of the room: they will want instant access to the new weapons and armors. Those negotiations are going to be hard and blunt: with all the Southern Houses wanting to get it for free while Owen wants a strict control. So how about this? Only the Royal family gets the free samples (and even then, we could say those are 'flawed' pieces (that are still bigger in quality in comparison), NO ONE ELSE, the rest HAS to PAY. This is where Owen can turn things around: apart from asking money upfront, he could negotiate the new shipments by acquiring land or special access to many of the other houses most protected trades or resources. And considering that Essos is soon about to cross the line, that would also be an opportunity for the northern troops to show off their combat capabilities and use the trades to basically go wherever they wanna go: their renewed baptism of fire with the new equipment. And, just in case, I bet Owen could basically 'install' a new rune that basically allows him to recall all of the equipment he selled the MOMENT he senses the southerners about to cross him or the North. As if, it magically teleports them back to his personal arsenal.

2025-01-21 15:26:40 +0000 UTCNot sure they should share weapons or their advanced ships. Having ships is no crime, the Redwynes have their own fleet so the Starks don't even need to negotiate about their ships. Owen needs to keep the mines a secret and made contingencies to protect the Starks from Ned's idiocy, bro is trying to speed run life.

2025-01-21 08:54:17 +0000 UTCOnly concern should be what makes sense within the framework of the story. If writing at a rapid pace is burning you out, then don't. Id rather see the story be written to completion, or at least until you've gone to the second world, rather than see under 40 chapters, but its quick.

2025-01-21 07:59:13 +0000 UTCDefinably deny any betrothals, I do think the gold would be brought up. And have they been paying the full taxes that would have been due and did they keep receipts? Did the Mountain come along should have him screw with a construct and get killed.

2025-01-21 07:10:23 +0000 UTCThey’re definitely going to ask about the constructs but I don’t think they’ll be comfortable having them since they’ll be controlled by the north. The controls exist but can be overwritten by Owen. Proliferation of canons will definitely come up. Though considering no one down south has the metallurgical knowledge or the exotic metals used to make them they’ll probably just have to buy them. I could see Aaryn requesting an upgrade to all the major roads in Westeros to be in line with the new system in the north. Considering the north is as big as the other kingdoms combined it could be done in a few years. As far as who should be there I see three meeting happening. One with Ned, Robert and Jon, with Owen being called in when requested. Another with the lords paramounts that made the trip. Maybe with one additional person, Olenna, Tyrion etc. Last a meeting with the ladies. Olenna and Cersei would definitely try to grill/influence Sansa and Catelyn. Olenna might also try to talk to the kids to see who might be a good fit to tie her family to.
