I don't remember ever having watched this in the anime, but now I know why people confuse it being a filler arc. While it is canon, it is still spiked with a lot of stuff that wasn't in the manga. The race in the manga was only a race between the boat of Nami, Usopp and Robin vs. Porch's boat.. So some scene's have been changed. But all in all the essence of the race stayed, so imo it's not as bad as people made it to be :D Also: Noooo, Chopper ππ So brave after Zoro's pep talk!
