Will you really save my beloved village?!" - This is just such damn powerful dialogue. Calgera had been willing to sacrifice his own daughter to break the curse, only to be confronted by Noland and his "Curable Disease". In a single moment Calgera forsook an entire lifetime of belief in desperation that this man who spoke such earnest words was not lying and could save everyone. There aren't many people in life who could have done something like that. Over 400 years of tradition and he spit in its face to save those he cared for. And then later for them to have the disagreement about the trees that Noland and his crew cut down to show that they didn't walk away from everything they believed, because change like that is slow in any group of people, but even then, they forgave Noland after realizing why, and even Noland felt bad because it's not like he looked down on religion or beliefs either. He only didn't like them when they spit in the face of advancements that could save lives. Oda walks this line of religion and science in such a beautiful way where both can be understanding of each other and it just brings me to tears every time.

2024-09-10 01:30:47 +0000 UTCYes, I believe Nola the snake is named after Noland the human. I think there are a lot of parallels that can be drawn between Wyper and Calgara. Both grew up fearing a god that had a huge impact on their daily lives. For Calgara this meant human sacrifice and for Wyper this meant all the shit Eneru had going on. Neither had the ability to oppose their god. Wyper lacks strength and Calgara lacked conviction. In both cases it seem that some outside help will be necessary to free their people. Mary Geoise has been shown thus far to be a place known as the Holy Land Mary Geoise.

Noland's story as known by the public reminds me of a really long game of telephone where the actual story has been buried by falsities and 400 long years. It's sad that Noland is labeled a liar and that he died without knowing what happened to his friend, Calgara πππ On another note, it's crazy how strong Noland is! Both he and Calgara were able to kill one giant snake each with ease when Zoro couldn't even scratch Nola (now, maybe living around 6.2 miles high has made Nola tougher than her ancestors, maybe not; just want to acknowledge that that's possible). Plus, Noland briefly lifting such a large mass of land is ridiculous! These episodes also recontextualize Wyper's zeal for his ancestors, his comrades, his people, and his land. He carries a heavy burden on his shoulders, and he doesn't want to fail the people depending on him. He loves everything, and everyone previously mentioned, he just shows it through his gruff actions instead of sweet words. This flashback is so good and the people who skip Skypiea are missing out on some great storytelling! I'm glad you ladies are enjoying the Skypiea saga so much and hope you are taking some time for yourselves β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

2024-09-08 15:36:41 +0000 UTCTo the discussion about Noland bringing the King: I think it was a little mixed: For one, he got forced by the king, who got (as you said) "the permission from Mary Geoise" (I also checked, it got introduced in episode 91 as "the Holy Land Mary Geoise" during the flashback when Vivi first met Wapol as a child during a world conference of kings) - therefore he didn't have a lot of choices. However, I'm sure he also wanted to go back and meet Kalgara again - such lenghty travels from the North Blue to somewhere in the Grandline is quite a travel, which surely needs funds. Having the king offer you the fonds to do it surely was a rare opportunity and therefore the ideal moment for Noland to go back there. Also they left the gold they were offered back on Shandia and they surely would at least have been able to get some gold - because as Kalgara said, they didn't really protect the gold.
