Judgement is basically just another term for execution, just more convoluted lol Fact is that the Straw Hats are the exception to the rule (really just luffy, the others only cause they follow the crackhead), whereas everyone else is a normal person that would ostensibly, in the face of such power, say screw adventure, we're just going to run (as most of the straw hats wanted to do), so to force people to go through with "Judgement", they kidnap some of the people and basically guide those who are left behind on the path to rescuing their comrades. There are probably those who would just run, leaving their comrades behind, who would *I'm guessing here since we don't see it happen* either get smote (smitted?) by the giant beam of light, or get hunted down by those priests anyways.

This arc in particular is truly the start of where note taking really begins to matter a lot. In this world everything has a part to play.

2024-08-02 17:41:12 +0000 UTCI really enjoy the little touches like Nami tossing a new shirt at Zoro's head. I don't remember if those moments were in the manga but I don't think they were. And even the Tarzan homage by Zoro, which I'm almost positive was in the manga, is funnier hearing it acted out. I love seeing how the story is told differently between art mediums. And then you add in the live-action retelling and oh my god my brain turns into the A Beautiful Mind meme lol

2024-08-02 14:47:00 +0000 UTCThe way I understand the whole reason Conis was guiding them to leave, is that when blue sea people arrive and receive "gods judgement" for their supposed crimes, they act tough or excited to go to upper yard to face their ordeal, right up until the reality of the situation hits, and they back out where they inevitably beg for their lives in fear and refuse to leave. At which point god Eneru sends down that giant beam, destroying everything for disobeying his judgement. The citizens are terrified of that happening, so they avoided our boys in fear that they too would back out and wherever they were standing would get obliterated. Conis was chosen to guide them, to hopefully usher them off the island asap as a way to atone for her and her dads crime of associating with "criminals". Although the Straw Hats were willing to go, Conis blasphemed by telling them the truth of the matter and received judgement. Luffy, Sanji and Usopp were not the intended targets, as they were planning to follow through with their ordeal. Hope that provides some context.

2024-08-02 14:25:32 +0000 UTCNot a spoiler but to clear up the Conis thing a bit, the reason they wanted her to escort them even though they were already going there, is because they didn't believe Luffy and Co. would actually follow through. That's why they kept mentioning past pirates talking about dreams but value their own lives in the end. They assumed that if they didn't have Conis escort them, they would just run away and not actually go to Upper Yard.
