2024-04-29 20:32:45 +0000 UTCWhen they're talking about buying time in the show (the scene at the shooting range), Mikasa and Armin are specifically talking about needing time for the Marleyans to not see the Eldians as devils. This is something that can't be forced; Armin's point is that using the Rumbling will just create more hatred and war, whereas naturally convincing the Marleyan population that they aren't a threat would lead to less casualties, but needs more time. Remember at this point in time, Willy hasn't declared War since this is a flashback before Eren goes rogue. I'm not really sure what your point is for your first sentence though. It's correct that Willy declared War and right after that Eren attacked, but I'm not really sure what you're trying to say by pointing it out. I'm assuming you mean that Armin wanting to talk wouldn't have mattered because Marley already declared War, and while I think this is true, a declaration of war with no action yet still leaves a possibility that talking could be an option. I mean, in the world of AoT it probably wouldn't have since they don't have any real means of communication, but it's still in character for Armin, Hange etc. to want to talk first. Eren pre-emptively attacking Liberio and killing a lot of the Marleyan and foreign generals made the chance of peace talks go from unlikely but still possible to absolutely never going to happen. Rather than them trying to have a talk with Willy, or convince the Eldians and Marleyans on the mainland that they aren't a threat, Eren made sure they lived up to their "Devil" like names. Again, yes, Marley was going to attack Paradis anyway, but from the point of view of the Scouts and everyone else, they hadn't explored all the options yet, and Eren essentially forced their hand by doing what he done.

He's the key to active the rumbling, without him the rumbling isn't possible, and the rumbling is the only hope for the island's survival. 2. The Scouts were forced into this position by Eren making himself a hostage in Marley. 3. The Scouts didn't really work with Zeke. Didn't you pay attention to this episode? As soon as the got back to the island they had Zeke detained and under custody the entire time as well as the volunteers. 4. Levi CANNOT kill Zeke in this moment in time. It would go against the island's interests and would be considered treason. Again, Zeke is the key to active the rumbling and the rumbling is the only hope for the island's survival. Also, just for your information, the U.S government actually funded the Taliban during their origins to fight against the Soviet Union. So your real world example is 💩

Also the part where you both forgot what they are trying to buy time for is the time before the Entire world comes to attack Paradis which is a huge deal and literally happened just a few episodes ago on AOT 4x5 episode called declaration of war where Willy Tybur declared war on Paradis and asked the world to join them and the world leaders where cheering, crying, clapping Willy Tyburs words. It amazes me everyone forgets that

He’s determined to keep his promise but not at the jeopardy of the island. Levi will kill Zeke when the higher ups have no use for Zeke. It’s why Levi is his prison guard & executioner. Not his partner as you put it. Oh yeah, Levi is 100% not “working with Zeke”. The higher ups are. Levi is ready to kill the Beast Titan at any moment. Just give the word.

Levi has always worked towards the greater good, and he's way too smart to mess that up just for his own personal revenge.

It's perfectly in character for him not to kill Zeke if it is a direct order not to. He promised Erwin to kill Zeke eventually, but if that would jeopardize their current mission, then it's also very reasonable to think he would get an order to hold off. There are plenty of valid criticisms of season 4, but in my opinion, this is not one of them.

There is no way Levi, as a character who we got to know through the seasons and OVA's, would just sit in front of Zeke and not kill him. Paradis working with him is like the U.S. government working with Al Qaeda or the Taliban. Or more recently, Palestine working with Israel. It just doesn't make sense. This forced alliance is one of the many things that made me detest season 4. Levi acting out of character to move this plot forward is objectively poor writing from Isayama san. It's equivalent to how characters acted extremely out of pocket in the last season of Game of Thrones.

Not to spoil anything i can only say obviously if there was any talking in between these 3 years, Eren decided on his own that it's not enough^^

Obviously war is bad and causes bad things to happen but thats a child shallow way to think about it. The focal point isn’t that war is bad or good. It’s what happens when humans are ignorant and carry hatred towards a race of people, and go with what the indoctrination dictates rather than human intuition and acuteness.

2024-04-26 23:44:12 +0000 UTCSomeone once told me that there are 3 universal languages: "Love, War, and Food. And often one beckons the other." When you don't have love, all you know is fighting for war or food, and feeding on your spoils. When you don't have war, all you have is love and food, until someone else wants your love and food. When you don't have food, all you have is compassion for those who need it more, or a drive to fight to survive and feed yourself. And yet, pick any sample of humans across any country, fictional or real, and you can see and understand the language of love, the language of war, and the language of food... it will either bring us together, or drift us apart. In season 1 of AoT, we saw the Eldians that we know inside wall Rose get spiteful about the wall Maria survivors coming into their borders because there isn't enough food to feed everyone, meanwhile the lords at the top were munching snacks and not caring about anything and that's within your own "kind", even when they had to get rid of a large percentage of their population just to survive, they still held animocity because "it's them or us." This "it's them or us." theme will come up a lot. In here, Niccolo, a Marleyan who had nothing but hate for Eldians, had his heart of ice melt because Sasha was raw, transparent and honest about her emotions at all times: she loved his food, and he found someone who appreciated him and his food without prejudice, and in turn, he stopped seeing her as an eldian, but as a woman who enjoyed his cooking... And by extension, he saw her family as welcome, and even more in extension: Jean and Connie, unlike Flock, are more susceptible to "not all marlyans are evil" and also respect Niccolo and even defended him and let him mourn sasha... which clearly meant a LOT to him... Niccolo was yelling so that these "island devils stop touching him and let him go" and he was willing to die for that when Helena first showed up, and then here he is, at sasha's graveyard, shaking hands with her father, bonding with an "island devil that shouldnt touch him"... because regardless of where they came from, they knew ONE thing about eachother that transcended their nationality: they both cared deeply for sasha. (same thing for connie/jean and niccolo). It started because Niccolo and Sasha bonded over food, when they were born and raised and expected to hate eachother... and now Sasha died by another girl who was the same "kind" as sasha, but aspired to be an honorary marleyan, aspired to be the same kind as Niccolo... All it takes is to find the ONE thing that unites you and your enemy, and be willing to look past the things that you do not agree with, and try to keep a channel of communications open... Sometimes there's no winning, but at least you tried. AoT JUST introduced us to this new chracter and in less than 10 minutes look at how much you can extrapolate from the character development, and what Sasha's life AND death has in terms of impact on the story, when she's just a secondary character according to some. And remember, Some are willing to die to find some form of peace, and others are willing to kill to keep their own version of that peace. While some are forced to kill to "irrelevent" people to remain relevent, meanwhile... some others simply die irrelevent deaths, but their deaths are the most relevent.

We see Eren as being very different and determined to fight now because in the previous episode he's never had any agency. Whenever he hesitates, if you remember, it's always Levi who says are you doing it? Or are you not? Eren's always pushed to the brink being forced to fight. Now that Eren appears to have agency and took up his own fights, we get uncomfortable.
