As someone who has been a fan of One Piece for over a decade, having read the manga and watched the show many times (and engaged with theories/symbolism/etc), I can say it is addicting to watch other people enjoy this series. You're already near episode 300 or something at this point, but I still wanted to point out a few fun little details you're likely to miss unless you're familiar with japanese symbolism or the original manga. First, straw hats are also called sun hats, and Luffy is very frequently compared to the sun in various ways. This is because the sun represents freedom. Luffy being able to stretch is also a symbol of his "freedom". It's also a common theme in pretty much every arc that Luffy finds people who are trapped in one way or another, and frees them. If it wasn't clear from this framing, the main theme of One Piece is being free, lol. Oda, the author, is... most likely an anarchist. He's been known to include many symbols common to left-wing liberation movements in real life, and pirates are very often a symbol of freedom for anarchists. There is also a huge historical/mythological basis to most of One Piece's themes, stories and even characters. While I'm not personally an anarchist, I do appreciate their art and revolutionary attitude. Oda has put in the effort to give this goofy pirate story a profound depth by looking at real-world problems - things that are really felt by real people - and confronting them with a revolutionary optimism. It's fun and entertaining, but for some of us it's also very personal. It gets us through dark times, and makes us feel hopeful despite our conditions. Got a little off-track, but hopefully this was appreciated.

2024-01-12 10:07:35 +0000 UTCYeah, the early 2000βs version of the English dub by 4kids that aired in America was exactly that, meant for kids, so it was heavily censored and just really bad. Now with Funimation and Crunchyroll, we get the real versions of the dub & sub so itβs actually good.

World wide the manga has outsold the Batman and Spiderman comics. The biggest reason though would be the original 4kids English dub... it's really, really bad. Also in general anime has been looked down on for a long time, so nobody's willing to give One Piece a chance. Sucks for those people though :)

The beginning of this series is by most peoples standards the worst part and that says it all how amazing this whole story is. Hope you will continue past where the live action ended
