I've been a One Piece fan for almost 22 years (since the anime was released in my country) though I have to admit that I paused watching and reading OP for a couple of years when boring adult responsibilities got in the way.😫 Thanks to the LA adaptation and all the promoting for the 25th anniversary (been to the One Piece symphony concert in Berlin last october and it was amazing!!! The conductor had so much energy that she smashed her baton during the encore.) I fell in love again with this amazing story.❤ I'm up to date with the manga right now but still have to catch up with the anime. So I decided to re-watch the whole thing from the very beginning and I decided to do it along with you, girls. It's so much fun to watch your reactions and it makes my own watching experience so much more enjoyable!🥰 I'm happy to support you here on Patreon and to join you on this great journey!

It's always fascinating to witness someone unaware of their own ignorance being both condescending AND incorrect at the same time. Pacing is subjective with standards and conventions varying between mediums, regions, languages, and when it was made. What's understood as "Anime Canon" is still technically "Filler" within general conventions of anime media literacy, and in the same vein, not all "Filler" is "bad" if it serves the characters in their growth or development. Here's the first half of my point. No one who's current on One Piece thinks the East Blue saga is slowly paced, unless they're consuming the series like a DBZ style Battle Shonen... in which case there's no hope of reaching an understanding. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here. Yes, the East Blue Saga is more peaceful, because it's functionally a prologue meant to teach you the rules of the world, but things are still moving forward very quickly. No one who has a big picture understanding of the scope of this series would say East Blue is slowly paced. People who get to Fishman Island and Dressrosa arcs (the 600s) have a leg to stand on when they talk about pacing issues because of how Toei chose to adapt the chapters, stretching out moments with lots of pauses in the beats, and lots of reaction shots, compounded by aging animation styles. This is a common occurrence in weekly shows when the mangaka needs time to get a big enough lead on the anime. Secondly, going back to my original comment when I talk about how the live action is an alternate universe, and how the anime is superior by giving moments time to breathe-- this is informed by watching multiple reactors who have: 1) Seen the live action adaptation FIRST. 2) Completed watching the anime backstory segments of the 4 Strawhats who join in the East Blue. All of them had the same viewpoint. They were more emotionally invested and affected by the backstories in the anime versus the live action. Because the anime fleshed out these stories, explored moments more deeply, and let them breathe. They may have been teary-eyed during the sad moments in the live action, but they were bawling during the anime. I commented with excitement that Haylo and Kiss were going to experience that level of emotional investment. Then you chose to comment that these "moments to breathe" are actually "poor pacing". For what purpose? To just shit on someone else's meal?Then you managed to be both incorrect and condescending in your next response. I've been consuming this series in both manga and anime formats since 2002. I know it well. That's also a long time to see online discussion about this show. Which is also how I know shallow and uninformed viewpoints when I see them. I have this gut feeling, this inkling of a suspicion, if you will, that you're actually not very far into the series, and because you were looking for an opinion on it, so you can sound like you know what you're talking about, you read some reddit comment that mentioned pacing issues, and viewed what little of the series you consumed entirely through that lens. When all you have is a hammer in your toolbelt, everything looks like a nail.

Some things they revealed in the Live Action occur much later in the series and some story lines were expanded to fit a modern television medium. But I think the anime gives certain iconic moments more time to breathe, more time to be digested by the audience and to think about the implications overall. Can't WAIT for you to see Zoro's backstory. The anime really fleshes out character backstories, but never to it's detriment, with one exception(but in that one exception it does so many other things right)

2024-01-09 22:32:52 +0000 UTCthere are more than a few changes there are a bunch of changes due to 1. shortening/compacting several anime episodes/arc's together into 2-3 episodes for the live action and 2. to change certain selective aspects of certain characters. ...but just as long as if Netflix in the live version doesn't change any Aspects of my Favorite One-Piece Character "Boa Handcock" i can live with what changes Netflix has done so far with the series.
