In a library there was a brown-haired woman who was wearing a white blouse, black pants, and black shoes, she was sitting at one side of a table where there was a chess board, and she wasn’t alone of course, two people were needed to play this game or at least two sentient beings as in the opposite part of the table, there’s a house elf wearing a pink dress.
It seems like the elf is about to make her move while the woman can’t help but watch with complete interest as the creature does something that she shouldn't do by magical standards, she wants to know if the elf is capable of making the right move she thinks would be the best one.
“So…If I move this piece…And…” The elf suddenly said and soon, her piece was close to Hermione’s king.
Hermione couldn’t help but clap as she watched the creature that was called ignorant by so many people do a move like that.
“Congratulations Trixie, that’s a checkmate…You won,” Hermione said happily.
“Miss Granger could you stop losing your time playing with…That creature, and help me, I need some information regarding the legal status of magical pets for people born in the last century,” a woman with the face of a toad said with an angry expression as she looked at the pair.
The two things she hated the most were having a good time, a house elf and a muggle-born.
“Don’t worry Dolores, I can do more than one thing at the same time,” Hermione said with a serious expression and soon a parchment appeared and the thing was writing itself.
Dolores' eyes widened as she saw Hermione was writing that with her mind, soon, the brown-haired witch closed her eyes and then smiled, it seemed like she found what she was looking for and with a movement of her wand, a book suddenly appeared in her hand.
“Here, take this, this book contains the rules and regulations related to the proper care of magical creatures when they're just pets, it’s the last update from the last century…To be more specific, check out chapter 50, page 669,” Hermione said in a monotone tone, a muggle-born would say that she almost sounded robotic.
The toad-faced woman was shocked, this was too fast and she asked for something that was so niche that Dolores thought it would take the librarian longer than this.
“Uh…Thank you, Miss Granger,” the older woman said not so happy but she was a hypocrite, so, she hid the way she truly felt about the librarian's abilities.
“Glad to be of help Dolores, come whenever you feel like you need to remember how to do your job properly once again,” Hermione said in a sweet yet threatening tone.
Hermione knew what the woman was looking for because it was so basic, she had read that book right after she joined the library. The older woman was too angry to say something else, Hermione was practically untouchable, when you have a memory like that even the minister relies on you from time to time, so, the toad-faced woman couldn’t only mutter things in a low tone because of the frustration as she left the room.
Dolores felt so humiliated because contrary to what Hermione believes, no, that’s a normal thing to know, specifically when that’s not part of your job and yet, the younger woman was a master of it.
“Master Herm—” the elf was about to say but Hermione quickly stopped her with a look. “I mean, Hermione, what do you want to do now?” Asked the house elf with a smile on her face.
Luckily the creature was too naïve to notice when someone was mean to her and Hermione couldn’t help but admire the creature for that, she wished to be like that sometimes but she couldn’t help but get in trouble from time to time due to her attitude.
“I think we already had our fun with chess, I’m going to introduce you to a muggle game that’s been making a lot of noise lately, it’s a trading card game named Yu-gi-oh,” Hermione said with a smirk and the elf was happy.
It wasn’t about the game but spending time with the person who saved her life felt good for the creature that was supposed to serve humans not play and eat at the same table as them and with them.
“Seems like you two are having a good time,” another voice joined them and Hermione hated being interrupted when she was studying Trixie's capabilities, however, this time she didn’t feel like that because this voice belonged to someone new and she loved meeting new people, her parents always encourage her to meet new people and live new experiences.
It was a woman with purple hair who clearly was in the Auror department, she hated attending most people, however, it was rare to see an Auror here as most of them are people of action rather than words.
“Oh, hello,” Hermione said with a small smile on her face. “This is your first time coming here, right? You look happy to be here, most people who come asking for help do not look like that,” Hermione said without thinking twice.
Tonks was taken aback by her attitude, she was sweet but blunt, and she didn’t know if she should either feel terrified because of her age or admire her…How could a woman like this fall in love with Harry?
“Yeah, you're right, well…I came here because a friend of mine recommended me to come to see you…Well, more like he asked me the favor to come to see you,” Nymphadora said with a calm tone.
She was hopeful that using Harry’s name would make things easier for her to get the information she wanted, after all, she had heard rumors about this witch not being as helpful if she didn't like you, maybe using the name of her old crush would be a good use of it.
“Friend? A house-elf? I don’t recall having human friends,” Hermione said as she caressed her chin.
“Well, I think this is someone you haven’t seen since your days at Hogwarts…His name is Harry, Harry Potter,” Tonks said with a warm smile.
What happened next is something the older woman couldn’t expect, Hermione fell on the floor while the parchment she was writing with her mind fell on the floor too and even a bookshelf that was accommodating from a distance fell on the ground too, Nymphadora ran as fast as she could to aid the witch.
“What the…? Are you okay Miss Granger?!” Tonks was truly worried but Hermione was completely shocked.
“That name…I haven’t heard of that name since I left school,” the brown-haired witch said as she was being helped to get back to her seat. “I thought that part of my life wasn’t going to come back considering that Harry Potter decided to give up on everything to live in the woods, or at least that’s what he told me he was planning to do once he graduated,” the librarian explained.
Hermione is a woman who loves her routine, the people she greets every day, and her parents whom she visits in the muggle world every Sunday at the same hour and she spends the same amount of time with them each Sunday, she hates when the chaos interrupts into her perfectly arranged life, just like the way she has this library organized, she hates the chaos and disorganization.
“He…If he wants something, he should come here personally to ask me...He could at least do that if he's my friend, right?” Hermione couldn’t contain the tears any longer.
Tonks was surprised once again by the roller coaster of emotions this woman was, at first, she was calm, then she lost her composure and then she became an emotional mess. Tonks knew she was probably crossing some boundaries but she decided to pat her head to make her feel a little better.
“Yes, you’re right Hermione…That's what that coward should do,” soon another person joined the room, it was a man, a dark-haired man who was wearing glasses.
He clearly had doubts about coming here but Hermione knew there was something clear the moment he entered the library, he wasn’t the same one was before, or at least she felt like he wasn’t like that and she didn’t know how to feel about it.
