“So that’s how things are…” Hermione mumbled as she stared at Daphne Greengrass who had a serious and stoic expression, it seemed like she had been holding all this for so long.

And surprisingly, Daphne couldn’t contain herself anymore and started to let out some tears, it’s been so long since she had made use of magic, so long since she had been in that mess of life she had back then that she was starting to feel human once again.

“Sorry for crying…It’s just that…It’s been so long since I’ve been talking like this with another person,” Daphne said as she wiped her tears and Hermione nodded.

“It’s okay, don’t hesitate to let everything out, you can tell me how you truly feel, you won't be judged,” Hermione encouraged the blonde.

Harry was watching the scene with complete interest, he knew it was strange to trust her so suddenly, but Hermione continued listening to Daphne, so that meant that the blonde was sincere, something weird for him because for a very long time, she had been too stubborn, so, if Hermione thinks Daphne is being sincere there’s no other way for him than trust her and think the blonde is being totally honest.

As for Hermione, she loved everything she had learned to this point, she was collecting more and more evidence about a disease related to the use of dark magic, or at least she believed there was a disease involved when that comes from the use of dark magic.

Well, technically there’s no such thing as dark magic because magic is magic at the end of the day, wizards and witches who study the human soul have noticed that the people who constantly use things like the killing curse just for fun at some point will lose their soul and their humanity.

Of course, that’s not the case for someone like Voldemort or probably even Harry, as wizards like those two can control magic at an incredible level compared to the average magical person, they control magic, not the other way around.

On the other hand, people who accidentally use the killing curse or use it for self-defense a few times during their whole lives, their souls don't suffer such damage, so, unless a person loves the thrill of killing, their soul will be fine.

The study of the magical soul is quite new but Hermione has noticed that it has a lot to do with the mind because she has seen and studied the worst death eaters that got convicted, a lot of people think that Azkaban makes you mad but it’s not like that, even though you’re surrounded by dementors, no, Hermione has the theory that those people who end up losing their minds were just waiting for something to trigger that state.

They’re addicts to killing, danger, and harming other people, and the magic they use has deluded them into thinking they’re invincible until they realize they’re not and they get thrown back to reality and in this case, they end up getting locked in Azkaban where they can’t use magic once again, it’s similar to the case of muggle drug addicts, if you cut their addiction in an instant, it could have several consequences for their mental state and health, and they’re kin to make some crazy decisions in that state of desperation.

It's kind of complicated but in a nutshell, Hermione has the hypothesis that the more you use things like the unforgivable curses, the more you harm people with magic, it ends up corrupting your soul and mind at an incredible speed, and it also takes a toll in the body because those spells consume lots of energy and it needs to come from somewhere else because energy cannot be created nor destroyed only transformed.

Of course, that won’t be the case if you are an incredible wizard or witch (something 99.9999 percent of magical people are not) so if you keep indulging in those addicting activities, you’re going to end up insane just like Bellatrix Lestrange, she corrupted her soul and damaged her body so much that she gained incredible power but she wasn’t human anymore when she died.

That’s why hearing Daphne say that she was becoming more and more addicted to the activities the death eaters usually do was a green (or red?) flag in her investigation, the blonde managed to avoid becoming a total slave of the power of dark magic.

Magic was a gift from nature and killing and harming others for pleasure is a sin, a contradiction against nature, so, of course when you do unnatural things then you’re going to end up with unnatural consequences like losing your humanity, still, Hermione was seeing a bit of hope in this case.

“Is it over Miss Granger? I think I need some rest,” Daphne said in a calm tone.

Hermione remained in silence for a few moments but in the end, she nodded and soon Harry was escorting the young woman to her room, they were walking upstairs in complete silence, however, Harry was finding it difficult to avoid his hero complex from showing.

“Miss Greengrass…I mean, Daphne, is everything okay?” Asked Harry with a concerned tone.

In different circumstances, Daphne would’ve loved to see Potter so worried about her but not this time, this was a different situation that required a more serious approach, and she wasn’t in the mood to tease him.

“Yes…It’s just that…Speaking with Granger about those things brought back so many painful memories about the many horrible things I did when I was in that organization,” Daphne was still a little shocked after remembering some of the things she did back then.

Now she was wondering how she suddenly forgot about everything and now she was feeling some resentment towards her father, if it wasn’t for him, she would have received the punishment she deserved, and she would’ve ended up with a least a life sentence in Azkaban, she was hating herself so much right now, she knew she needed to pay for what she did.

“Well that could be just your mind trying to make you forget about whatever thing happened back then, the human mind is complex and sometimes it does things to protect us…The same thing happened to me until that day in my third year when I remembered the day my mother sacrificed her life just so I could live,” Harry said in a low tone.

Daphne was a little surprised she was hearing this from him, could he be opening himself to her? She didn’t want to have hopes but, now that she remembers, during that year Malfoy was truly acting like a jerk towards him, mocking him for his encounters with the dementors.

Daphne was too busy thinking about this development of her relationship with Harry but then, she realized she was already at the door of her room.

“Daphne…If you need someone to talk to…You can do it with me, regardless of what you did and what I feel about death eaters, I can see a little progress on you, so, don’t be afraid to count on me, after all, I’m here to guard you, and protect you,” Harry said with a soft smile on his face.

Daphne couldn’t believe what she was hearing, Harry Potter was trying to get closer to her and she didn’t know how to react to his words, she blushed as she thought about what he said and at the end, she could only weakly nod at him before she got inside her room.

Once she was in her room and closed the door at an incredible speed, and then, she fell to the ground and hugged her knees with complete embarrassment.

“W-What the…What was that?” She asked herself as she tried to analyze what just happened.

He had always been acting so cold towards her, and yet, one month after showing him she could change, he suddenly decided to be friendlier with her.

The only reason Daphne was brought up to this world was to continue the Greengrass legacy and bring glory to the family, yes, her parents and sister loved her, but that’s what was expected of her as the first-born, so, hearing that someone had hopes in her was something confusing for the blonde.

“Maybe…Maybe I should forget about those stupid plans about escaping? I know I’ll get denied that audience because I’m still a menace to society, but…Maybe it will be fine to spend more time with Potter…” She wondered and she blushed once again.

She hated herself for being so weak, it only took Harry Potter to stare directly into her eyes and speak calmly to make her feel like this, meanwhile, Harry Potter could only smile as he walked downstairs to meet his best friend before she retired to her home.

“Shit…Maybe I was crossing her boundaries…I hope I didn't do that,” Harry said to himself with a calm tone. “So…Hermione, what do you think? Do you think she’s ready to get that audience?” Asked Harry with a calm expression.

 “Yes…She’s ready,” Hermione said bluntly.

Harry could only smirk, he was sure the blonde was going to love to hear those words.
