Chapter #4: Daphne in action.

“Well, new day and that means that the same old mistakes are yet to come, wahoo…” Harry Potter said in a not-very-enthusiastic tone as he walked upstairs.

It was almost seven clock in the morning and it was almost time to wake up the prisoner, this was the daily routine of Harry Potter, due to the ministry laws, he had to sleep in this house, he indeed had a cozy perfect room to sleep but that doesn’t mean he was happy with being in this situation.

He was at least hopeful that one day he’d wake up dead and then he wouldn’t have to do this crap again, he was practically a prisoner too and he was in this position just because he killed two death eaters who tried to harm others after being liberated with their corrupted ministry connections, and yet, at the end of the day, he was the bad guy and he had to pay just because he made the world a better place.

Suddenly, he reached the door where Daphne Greengrass slept every day, and even though this was her property, the only thing inside this room was a bed with a few plain blankets, she’s not supposed to get any luxurious things, so, she just has a place to sleep and a small bathroom, the ministry took care of modifying the home to make it suit so she could fulfill her sentence, once it ends, everything will be back to normal.

Harry suddenly stared at the watch on his right hand, there was just one minute left for him to try to wake up the blonde and he was already mentalizing himself about what was next to come.

Daphne Greengrass hated him, that’s the truth and she tries to prove that fact every day, and she starts from the moment when he has to wake her up, she always makes a fuss, takes longer than she should to get ready, and she tries her best to avoid facing her daily punishment.

It had been so long since this started that he was already wondering which kind of dirty tricks she was going to use today, he was starting to get tired of using the same wandless spell to control her.

However, the moment his watch reached the hour when he was supposed to knock on her door to wake her up, something incredible happened, the woman for some reason had already woken up and she opened the door before he ever knocked.

She couldn't stop herself from yawning but she was completely dressed and ready to continue facing her sentence, she had a bored and calm expression and he could still tell that she hated him, but he didn’t care about that, the thing that surprised him was that she was taking the initiative.

“What the…Is this real? Or maybe am I dreaming?” He asked in a low tone and she just stared at his eyes but she didn’t say anything.

This was too weird, he expected her to say one of her smartass replies, but instead, she remained in the same position without making a sound, until…

“Good morning Auror Potter,” she said in a calm tone even though she had a stoic expression.

“Oh…Good morning Miss Greengrass,” he told her in a shocked tone.

He was having a hard time believing this was happening but suddenly, he shook his face to get back to reality, he needed to control himself, now he was the one wasting time and making things difficult for everyone, he had to focus.

“Let’s go, it’s breakfast time,” Harry said in a serious tone and she nodded.

He was expecting her to outrun him just like she always does every day, it seemed like she took pride in doing meaningless things like that just to annoy him but this time she was following him not the other way around,

He wanted to ask her what was going on, even though he liked the way she was acting, it was too sudden, but then, he remembered that this was the way she should be acting and not the way she usually acts, so, he accepted this new attitude of hers and even though he feels like this a very sudden change, he can’t help but feel happy about the change, this will make his life easier, maybe she was finally taking responsibility for what she did which made him feel hopeful.

“Sit,” Harry told her and she obeyed without questioning him, and soon, he made a cup of black coffee appear alongside a plain bread in front of her.

There was no butter nor jam, just those things were enough for her breakfast according to ministry laws, she could order more things (with a cost) if she wanted to but it seems like this time she decided to not ask for French pastries like she usually does, still, even if she was well behaving today, she still had to finish all this in ten minutes or less or she was going to be hungry until lunch but surprisingly, instead of arguing as she does every day, she drank the coffee and ate the bread in complete silence, something he felt grateful for.

“Okay, I guess it’s outside time,” Harry said as he realized that ten minutes had passed by ever since she started her breakfast.

She nodded with the same plain expression and Harry was surprised once again by her obedient attitude, however, he was expecting her to act back to normal once he let her get outside, however, she didn’t walk too far, she was too close to the home and she was still in the permitted range during those two hours where she was allowed to be outside.

“Oh, I’m glad this time I could find you,” her mother suddenly appeared and behind her, Astoria was coming too.

Daphne was about to say something but then, she looked at Harry’s eyes with a questioning look.

“Am I allowed to speak with my mother and sister, Officer Potter?” Asked the blonde and Harry was getting more and more confused as time passed by, however, he nodded at her.

She had been behaving quite well these past few hours, so, he decided to let her speak with her relatives and the women shared and talked about some important things, they were speaking in a low tone so Harry wouldn’t hear them but he was aware of their chat and their insults towards him, he didn’t care about that, worse people have insulted his name and they are dead, so, there’s no harm in them speaking like that about him.

“Well, time’s up Greengrass,” Harry said with a serious tone.

The blonde stared directly into his eyes and nodded.

“Mother, Astoria…Please don’t get desperate…The end of my sentence is getting closer and closer,” Daphne said before she grabbed the casket with food her mother brings every day for her, and they waved her goodbye with tears in their eyes.

Harry knew she was taking more time than she was allowed but he couldn’t stop her mother and sister from hugging her, he hated death eaters but he wasn’t going to make a fuss over this, and considering she has been acting quite well ever since she woke up, he didn’t have the motivation to be too strict today.

He knew he was probably acting like a corrupt Auror but he didn’t care, he didn’t want to be here to start with, he wanted to be on missions, chasing and killing dangerous death eaters not being this death eater's guard, if only his colleagues weren’t so weak to her feminine charm, he wouldn’t be here right now.

The Greengrass matriarch and Astoria said their goodbyes to Daphne once again before they disappeared and soon, Harry and Daphne were having a very peaceful lunch, neither of them said or did anything inappropriate and the happiest one to be in this situation was Harry, long gone is the drama and now, there’s nothing but peace.

If things keep going like this, the people at the ministry will realize that she’s changing and that she’s ready to get a normal Auror so he can get back to the battlefield, this was great for both parties.

“Okay, lunch’s over, time for confinement until supper,” Harry said with a calm tone and she nodded.

Once again, she was following the man to the confinement room, and as soon as he opened the door and gave her the signal, she bowed at him and entered to get ready to face another day of confinement, Harry was surprised by her attitude and he even smiled after she was now facing her daily punishment without making a fuss.

Daphne entered the room and she sat as soon as she could, but then, she started to laugh like crazy, she felt satisfied with today’s performance, her plan had been a success.

“He’s buying this act of mine…I can’t believe how easy it has been to deceive him, oh Harry Potter….You don’t know what’s awaiting you, so, you better prepare to pay for your mistakes and everything you’ve done to me and my loved ones!” She declared and soon, she started to laugh like crazy once again.

Daphne was going to make Harry believe she was changing and she knew he was having lots of doubts right now, she was going to take advantage of the confusion to subdue him, and he was going to pay for everything he did to her.
