Fate/Zero #1 Reaction - Early Access!

Comments

It makes sense to watch zero first

BRONNOCK

Ahhhh so good!!!

Johnny

Yeh, Rakoon, Im not concerned. As I know the squad, Im already proud they didnt get completly confused. Im just looking forward for more and saying others should too.

k.lam

except that you are expected to know the outcome of this war before even watching it, you are also expected to know some characcters beforehand as well.

Shad Ow

I just found him, and started his reactions too fate a few days ago.

Woodsie89

ah i see you are a man of culture, sirmonkeysuit's reactions are hella lit

Miniko

Fate/Zero’s first episode isn’t hard to understand so that’s not really the worry. I think the real problem a lot of people have with the first episode is that it is not very streamlined. It’s also a story structure that can be a bit overwhelming at first. Fate/Zero has a main character, but it doesn’t really have a protagonist: that is to say, the main character, Kiritsugu, gets just about as much screen time (and has just as much relevance) as everyone else. So it can sometimes be a bit difficult to follow.

Rakoon Shampoo

That’s a non-issue. I mean, Zero was originally written as a prequel. The ‘Stay Nights’ spoil Zero, but not not in a bad way. It’s the same as saying the Star Wars Original Trilogy spoils the Prequel Trilogy: you wouldn’t be wrong, but “just because you’re correct doesn’t mean you’re right.” That is, the spoilers kind of don’t matter.

Rakoon Shampoo

I would say Eric is pretty good at doing that, the other guys not so much

Joe Smith

The issue there is that they'd then know how this war ends.

Robust_Sauce

Yall dont need to be so reserved. This guy - https://youtu.be/TpTxgnkBB9Y saw through the episode on his first blind watch, understood the exposition, appreciated the story telling and had a 1hour discussion. If other people dont get it, its on them, dont need to tell them “it gets better”. It obviously does, but this episode was lit 👏🏼

k.lam

Hahahahha how was that ass writing 🥜

k.lam

I’m so excited and Hyped for this!

Zero

one of the best intros to Fate. Really hype.

warui warui

Rider's the best. My favourite servant in Zero

warui warui

It’s easy to understand 🧐

Luky

The info dump is real with this one. Since this is not the first Fate anime, I have to assume they were trying to get new viewers up to speed without making the returning viewers sit through a few episodes of stuff they already know. Fate/Zero has a main character, but it doesn’t really have a protagonist. Now that we know all our characters, it’s going to get much more streamlined.

Rakoon Shampoo

Yes because anything non action is of no importance. I get they can meander planning at times. But most is character stuff. But to each their own.

Brandon Hughes

It gets better, but this is the only Fate worth watching. The writing in all other series are ass.

Coco XLarge

I’m taking everybodies word for it that the writing gets better because this episode was ass in terms of information and pacing. Maybe they are just ripping off the bandaid, I don’t know, never seen it, but I watch anything new with the boys so we will see where this goes.

Erich Bomke

Holy fucking shit. I did not expect to see my native script in Japanese anime. Even though the text was absolute nonsense, it was still cool to see.

Garik

Will probably be a separate series and will have to win the poll

Robert Gnall

Maybe they should've started with Fate/Stay night

Bran Flakes

And after they finish this and UBW, they have to watch the Abridged version by Project Mouthwash

G. David

I think they'll love this series, but will point out the one-dimentionality of the servant characters by the end. It's easy to get wowed by this series, but the guys are pretty good are delving past the surface level.

G. David

no doubt

G. David

what a bold prediction

andrew calahan

I am hyped for this reaction series

spencer

Especially Eric's

Joel

No. He just thought they’d only be referred to as their class names.

Rakoon Shampoo

Why isn’t it working for me?

BlindFury21

"king arthurs in this bitch", well yes literally

Alpha12321

Someone tell Rick that Tohsaka is voiced by the same English actor as Guts

Cristian

Hell yeah Tuesdays are back on the menu boys

AnEnthusiasticKoala

for first episodes the allow everyone see the full reaction, not 2 episodes.

MelanieRS

If Rick could handle making a character key with profile pics like they did with Attack on Titan for just the human characters I'm sure that would help a ton going forward, since he has the most circumstantial knowledge at this point.

Syclowave

Rider is *everyone's* favorite character

P.A. Master

If you guys haven't seen this show it's one of the best. Story telling,ost,fights,ideals..its amazing

Sam h

Bro that was a bigger information dump than the first episode lol

Sam h

Rider will be their ray of light in this depressing violent world lol

Sam h

Crispin Freeman is always a treat to listen! ❤️

@Lady_Starshadow

just wait. there still half day left

SNP

I’m getting tired of it... Ah well. One day: samurai champloo , berserk, Erased time will come

DAki

wheres naruto

Carl

Quick :P

Can'tThinkOfAGoodName

"Quick"?

Ryoma Nagare

Rider will be their favorite character

AustinMyB

both of yours combined are not as ready as mine.

Kara59

Not as ready as mine

Cultured Degenerate

As someone who watched Fate/Zero first with only basic knowledge of the Fate series: it's confusing at first but you'll get the hang of it. Enjoy this series, and also the soundtrack which is absolutely fantastic.

Gaëlle

My body is ready

Steven Moratis

By "ridiculous", I don't mean stupid or anything. Objectively, I think anyone will note that's a lot more circle walking than one usually expects, completely separate from the verbal content of the scene itself.

Wick

I don't like Steins;Gate lol.

Evan!!

The shows I vote for never win

Queef Burglar

They don't know what they're missing!

Arianne Kay

I'm happy for all the people that have been wanting them to watch this show, It's just a little sad they couldn't finish the stein's gate loop while it's still fresh on their minds. Just my thoughts on the matter, no hate, I've never seen this show so maybe I'll love it and end up watching all of it ahead of them.

TAP

One day Samurai Champloo will win, one day...

Able

Good pick... the first episode is like going to a lecture hall. You best take notes to learn all you can. It gets a little easier to understand in episode 2 and Beyond

Mr. Big Stuff

I was thinking about watching it so that I'm not just unfairly judging the anume because SC didnt get chosen in l the 100th time in a row

Keyontre Lynch

You don't like Stein's;Gate's dub?

Imani Brooks

I know and it makes me sad. The only plus here is that I may just finally watch Fate Zero just so I can watch it with the boys.

Imani Brooks

I'm upgrading my subscription to full length. This show is fucking amazing!

OKBO

Why that scene is actual genius: https://youtu.be/efJ3fmm98ww

k.lam

Never seen this show. But I sure as hell know Matthew Mercer and Liam O Brian’s voices when I hear them! I really with there was a way they could watch critical role! But it seems impossible.

Brandon Hughes

So just some quick reclarification for anyone who doesn't know. "Fate/stay night" (commonly abbreviated to FSN) was originally a visual novel released in 2004 with 3 main routes and a variety of good and bad endings. Those 3 Routes are known as the "Fate", "Unlimited Blades Works" and "Heaven's Feel" routes, each of which had a different main love interest for the protagonist Shirou Emiya (or Emiya Shirou by Japanese naming conventions). The game makes you play through the "Fate" route first, then "Unlimited Blade Works" and finally "Heaven's Feel" last, and with each route you would learn more information about the world that FSN takes place in, character motivations and ect. that aren't mentioned in other routes. The 2006 FSN anime mostly follows the "Fate Route", but for some reason instead of following it faithfully they threw in loads of stuff from the other two routes that you would play through after making it a bit of a mess that you're probably better off not watching. The "FSN: Unlimited Blade Works" anime series is an adaptation of the "Unlimited Blade Works" route and while it starts off similarly to the 2006 anime, the major events of the anime are very different to 2006, aside from the stuff 2006 stole from UBW. In the game, characters from FSN would vaguely refer back to the 4th Holy Grail war, mentioning things like who won, and some other people who took part in it, but again, they intentionally did not go into too much detail for a variety of reasons related to the characters themselves. In 2005, a Light Novel series began to be released called "Fate/Zero" (abbreviated to FZ) which went into detail about the events of the 4th Holy Grail war in far more depth than FSN did. However, it does so with the belief that you have already played the game and no a number of details in advance, and as such is completely unafraid to spoil things from FSN routes, mostly for "Heavens Feel" and "Fate" with "Unlimited Blade Works" beings spoiled the least out of the three. To put it simply, FZ is a prequel to FSN. While it happens first chronologically, it was originally meant to be viewed afterwards because since it has spoilers for FSN, not the other way around. FSN originally came out in '04, FZ started in '05 and ended in '07. However, that doesn't mean you can't watch FZ first. It's how I personally got into the franchise, it just means that some big revelations in FSN will feel like "well I already knew about that" moments. Honestly watching FZ first is probably the better thing to do (even if some fans may kill me for saying so) since FSN hasn't received a full proper anime adaptation yet. The "Fate route" adaptation was unfaithful, the "Unlimited Blade Works" adaptation is better but honestly not perfect, and the "Heaven's Feel" adaptation (consisting of 3 films) has not been finished yet. And at the end of the day, none of the adaptations will ever be perfect because a huge part of the original FSN game was the protagonist's near-constant inner monologue, something that is not present in the anime because of time constraints and the difference in the formats of a Visual Novel and an Anime. Hopefully that should clear things up for anyone who is confused TL;DR, Fate/Zero is a prequel to a game with 3 diverging paths with spoilers for all 3 of those paths in the games. It can still be enjoyed before Fate/stay night, but you go into it without some information you were meant to know beforehand, and will go into Fate/stay night afterwards with information you shouldn't have known beforehand. Have fun watching it :P

Can'tThinkOfAGoodName

Haven't watched it yet, but am waiting for them to point out the ridiculous walking-in-a-circle scene haha!

Chan

Only when its not taking the place of another show, since this is taking Steins; Gate place they are uploading Steins; Gate today for non patreons :D

João Pedro Dâmaso

If it's the first episode of the show, don't we get 2 in a row? Or am I mis-remembering?

Scipi0

It’s a different story. Fate was originally a video game and therefore has multiple different endings. As far as I can tell, they took each different ending and made a separate anime for each. The movies are also a retelling if the same setup.

Rakoon Shampoo

can you imagine their confusion next ep when they find out about the trickery of dick mage supreme

Shad Ow

unlimited blade works diverges from the original stay night story line extremely early. and the original was a shitty mix of all 3 routes slapped together. it's 100% worth watching.

cody skater

I can't wait to see their reaction to Caster next week.

Ryoma Nagare

Question: I saw Stay Night (original) but havent seen Unlimited because I think the first half is the same and as far as I can tell the better animation is the main reason people prefer it. Is the different story worth watching?

Bekss

Things the writer expected you to know coming into this story which I won't spoil: The outcome of this HGW The nature of the HGW The truth of the HGW The 3 main families and their descendants and a few other characters The whole magic system What Heavens Feel is You with me? Now let's sit back and enjoy the rest of the show

Jeroz Avlesair

Gonna have to rewatch Zero, too long since I saw it

Bekss

JoJo isn't even on the polls. Life just ain't fair.

Gistradagis

Finally, a dub I actually adore.

Evan!!

totally forgot this was a 40 min qpiesode!

yooin

He knew it was about heroic spirits, so he hoped for western names ;)

k.lam

We know this one will be hard to grasp for the bois, but im dmn sure they gonna appreciate this dark gritty fantsy world

k.lam

"This one should be easy" oh Rick you sweet boy

Hercule Pyro

Right personally would have SC before Bezerk because its shorter but again they both will never be chosen

Keyontre Lynch

i really wanna see unlimited blade works after this for sure,

yooin

Or BEZERK 😂

Julio Morales

LETS FREAKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

yooin

Friendly Reminder that Samurai Champloo will NEVER win a poll

Keyontre Lynch

Finally!!!

Guilbert Amarga
