1) Voldy tried to get something of Gryffindor’s to make into a horcrux, but the only thing known to be his was the sword, which he couldn’t get his hands on. It’s thought that’s what he was trying to get when he came to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for a teaching position. 2) The passage to the Hog’s Head was NOT revealed in book/movie 3. Neville explains there that the 7 secret passageways were sealed up at the start of term. This new one was formed by the Room of Requirement after this year of school started when those sheltering inside needed food.
