Melron Reacts: Doctor Who 12x6 - Poll!

What do you think is the theme for this season?

Comments

Seems like they're focusing on Earth and it's issues. Spyfall looked at technology and security, but also looked at Earths darkest moments such as World War 2. The Benni episode is about what happens when we let our hatred of others go to far, with nuclear weapons I think. Teslas episode I'm not too sure, maybe looking at taking advantage, with the aliens not willing to help themselves, instead always venturing to others places to steal people to help them, which probably represents earth in some way. The Judoon episode was just dedicated to everything Doctor who in my opinon. Then finally the latest episode looked at the pollution of the planet.

I agree with Lucas, it's too early to tell. They're playing with a few different ideas - destruction of home; trust (or lack there of); and the Doctor's identity (or at least who she thinks she is) seem to be the big ones.

Aquitaine

For me it was between the earth and trust, I ultimately went with the earth as the majority of the episodes have been about a form of climate change and the way the human race is destroying the planet.

I don't think there's any clear theme for this series overall. They marketed Series 11 as being about family, and that was executed in most episodes. This series for some reason has had two episodes with very similar environmental messages, but the other episodes don't share this theme. It's too early to tell what themes (if any) they're trying to explore for this series, but personally I don't see any connections thematically across all or most episodes so far.

Lucas

This season, I think Yaz, Graham, and Ryan will all fall deeply in love with the Doctor; all three will acquire cosmic powers and play a pivotal role in defeating the Cybermen (Cyberfolk?); Rose will return along with Capt. Jack; and disgruntled fans everywhere will be thrilled the show has returned to form.

I think it’s been about the need to face/discover the truth and the episodes about Earth have been representations of that.

Sarah Case

I think there’s an element of ‘the past catching up to her’ - general things like The Master and Jack, and now bigger surprises like the Ruth Doctor or The Timeless Child. Alongside that, definitely the Earth - it’s been the focus of basically every episode!

being badly written

Thomas Joy

I think that it's all about the Doctors Trust in her companions and how much she is willing to let out or keep hidden, and from the companions perspective, they trust her enough to be friends with her, but I would like to see that trust waver a tiny bit because of how much The Doctor is willing to let out to them.

Doctor feels like like Captain Planet with its messages lately.

Gavin Hardiman

I chose other. To me it feels this season has been focusing on humanity’s capacity for good and bad. Especially given (what seems to be) the increased usage of historical figures.

John M

Series 13 has already been confirmed.

Martin Wiggan

The importance of not ignoring the problems of your society. Probably with a reference of how the doctor ran away instead of helping fix Gallifrey.

Doby Greg

Oh it's definetely the Earth, it's about global warming and pollution, which tbh annoys me. It's not adding anything to the debate. A good science fiction show could get the debate rolling on things we can do to change global warming, like geoengineering, it's many forms and pro's and con's. Instead we just get "We need to do something" "What?!" (Roll Credits). Kinda a stale message - From A climate scientist

The Doctor

I'm not really thinking that much into it; much like last season, there really doesn't seem to be an cohesion to the stories...

Run out the clock and try not to get cancelled
