Watch any series that isn't a catch up series and there is no "detective calvin" moments at all. It's only when he can research ahead when he gets "the nail on the head"

2020-01-28 16:44:03 +0000 UTCWas back in episode 3 after they recreated the text message thing for the first time with Kurisu, they mentioned how after Kurisu freaked out and left they spent the rest of the night and day trying to do it again but it for some reason didn't. Both the text message wouldn't go back and the banana wouldn't turn gelly. So it clearly has something to do with the time of day. The time machine aspect of the phonewave only works between those hours. The rest of the day, its just a normal microwave.
