You need to understand and respect this power system instead of blaming the show and fans for your wrong assumptiond. Literally how can you "I can only to these categories and my strongest abilities often have conditions" magic.

I've seen hxh quite a few times and to claim I know how the system "fully works" is a massive fucking stretch.

I mean they could but you need to be motivated enough to use that condition and gimp your nen potential.

Yeah, I love how outside of hastu type and born potential, you have complete control over what kind of power you have. Makes it great for theory crafting what kind of abilities you would have.

At least this fight shows regardless of the fact all 3 are top tier fighters they have to think on their feet, if you rush into a nen Fight you lose, even hisoka vs that guy in the tournament

Too bad its gonna take them another year before they fully understand how the power system works for this anime...man double drops of hxh would be nice lol

Someone has probably mentioned this already but Kurapika’s extreme hatred for the phantom troupe is one of the main reasons why he’s so good against them. Gon and Killua couldn’t simply impose a condition on themselves and reach the same level.

*No spoilers for anything you guys haven't seen yet* Not sure if anyone else has said it ye, but I think the one thing you guys are missing is that condition are not the ONLY way to create a powerful ability. When Kurapika was talking to this teacher he mentioned how in order to conjure something you need years of experience and familiarity with it, which is why he said it's essentially a waste of time to conjure something you could easily attain via normal means like a sword. Another key point to keep in mind is that nen is quantifiable. When Zeno mentions that his En could extend 10 times farther than Nobunagas that shows you that he is capable of outputting at least that much more aura than Nobunaga can at once. Putting those two factors together you can reason that with years of training and enormous amount of aura like Zeno and Silva have you can learn powerful abilities without having to put life or death conditions on yourself. You'll learn more about the value of experience and skill later, I just wanted to help clear up your confusion on Nen if possible.

I think your expectation that you get to learn how each and every power is developed is a little too much. Some of the reasons we love the Nen power system:
- There are limitations and weaknesses of each Nen category. There is no ultimate Nen ability that can defeat all.
- As you pointed out, restrictions make it very interesting. Having conditional powers means you have to plan when and where to use.
- Unlike many other shounen anime, the characters in here do not get power boosts that cannot be explained outside the Nen system.
-My favourite reason: Most fighter's Nen powers are influenced by their personalities, upbringing, goals etc. Take for example Chrollo. His power is a reflection of what he truly is...a thief.

a lot of people wrote about it already, but i´ll say it shorter... Not every power needs a condition. If you want your power to be super OP and very specific, then you need conditions. You can even have just a portion of your power or just the one atack to have a condition, while the rest of your power doesn´t. That´s what happens whith killua´s chains for example.

The dub really messed up. Chrollo doesn't steal abilities, he just copies them. Edit: I stand corrected

One more thing: Eric talking about how Specialists are seemingly overpowered in relation to the other categories. It looks like that but one thing you need to remember is on the Nen category chart, Specialists are DIRECTLY opposite to Enhancers. Zeno and Silva used abilities under Transmutation and Emitter during this fight, both of which are right next to Enhancement, heavily implying they fall under one of those three top categories. Chrollo was taking physical hits by both of them and didn't take any major damage from them despite being so far away from Enhancement, which in his case shows he's just really good. The fact that the Zoldycks came to the conclusion that they need to give their life to take him out illustrates the level Chrollo is at.

Don’t go too hard on them lol, before I learnt more about nen via manga and visiting wiki pages, I kind of thought the same way since I keep remembering the whole thing about how harder the conditions are it will make your nen infinitely more stronger. They should remember that there are characters out there in the series, that have immense nen without having to use any conditions at all. I was kind of weirded out at the thought of Killua going after revenge for his family in their discussion lol and how Killua will strengthen his nen via condition.

I feel like on first watch most of the things you guys brought up are kinda self-explanatory, but because its a once a week deal its harder to remember things from earlier. Like Aaron talks about the big energy balls from Silva as if they need a condition behind them but for 90% of abilities we've seen so far there hasn't been a condition mentioned for it. Its only been for OP stuff like Kurapika's Emperor Time and Chrollo's Skill Hunter. Uvogin was capable of mass destruction simply by throwing his fist with "a little added Nen" as mentioned by Machi. So the idea of Silva, who's fought and killed a member of the Troupe before, using an ability of similar destructive capability should not be a surprise at all.

They keep talking like everyone NEEDS a condition to be strong, Silva never made a covenant like kurapika he got strong from training

I suppose it wouldn't exactly be a spoiler since I doubt they plan on reading the manga after the show is done lol. But I'd still wait until maybe around the training with Bisky cuz by then they'd likely be able to get a rough idea themselves
