Melron - Doctor Who 12x2 Poll!

How do you feel about Gallifrey?

Comments

Concerned but cautiously optimistic. I just don't have all that much confidence in Chibnall at this point.

Don't understand all those claiming it's wrong or upsetting to "change" the canon on the founding of Timelord society. Really? Was the founding of Timelord society a huge part of your enjoyment of the show? Now, maybe it was for some, for those really invested in a few episodes scattered throughout the 70s and 80s. If the founding of the timelords is changed, if it was all a lie, even if the Doctor was somehow involved in a way, it doesn't change the Doctor as we have known them and their actions since the beginning of the show. So for what it's worth, I'll keep watching and reserve opinion until the story is complete. Be well, all. Grá.

I've got a bad feeling about this.

Tasker Thorn

I feel like I went through all the feelings in this poll. It really depends on the payoff at this point. Hopefully this doesn’t invalidate the doctor saving all the children on Gallifrey. It wasn’t like all of them were timelords.

Whilst I'm a little sad to see Gallifrey, once again, in ruins, I think it's the kinda 'kick' the series needs right now - lots of possibilities on where it can go, and personally I'm very interested!

WhoviVortex

Apparently this story arch is something Chibnall has envisioned since he was a young fan and has always wanted to put to the screen, I will hold my judgement until I have seen this series play out and not jump to any conclusions

I'm A bit sick of it to be honest every time we see about gallifrey it's always hurt or in war, for once I would love to gallifrey thriving and powerful....but no again gallifrey is destroyed and boring...nothing new really being brought to the Table. Apart from an interesting story line about the timeless child, and that's all Lol

I can buy the whole learning the truth is what made the master turn evil, the thing I am not buying is why he is evil towards the Doctor. Hating his race sure, but unless the Doctor has something to do with the truth then him wanting to kill her makes no sense. Which sums up the episode, to be honest, he wants to kill her yet wants her to be put on the path to finding the truth.

Definitely interested. While the planet is destroyed it’s not necessarily the case that all Time Lords are gone. We know in Hell Bent that Rassilon and the High Council were exiled by the Doctor so they could still be out there somewhere along with any number of other Time Lords.

Paul McElvaney

Annoyed but intrigued. Chibnall has set a very high bar for himself and he has come no where near that with his previous work. I worry.

Jonathon Gray

Im interested in what happened to Gallifrey and I believe it is completely different from what happened previously. That is because it was originally about the doctor destroying Gallifrey but now it’s about the Master destroying Gallifrey.

Dylan Allardice

I think chibs is trying to kill Dr who, first UNIT leaves now Gallifrey is destroyed again, and now i think he is going to try change the doctor and masters life, i really think chibs is the WRONG person to do Dr Who he is worse than the master him self,

Stephanie Reacts

A mix between upset and interested. I mean, it feels like we just got it back. We could have so many more stories. But, I really want to know about the Timeless Child, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd say I'm more cautiously optimistic. Definitely interested in where this story is going, also worried that Chibnall's going to do something silly. He has yet to earn my trust where I felt I could trust RTD and Moffat with the Doctor's backstory.

A lot of people are upset because it's basically a retcon of Moffat bringing it back in the 50th special. I understand but I honestly think it's too early to call it a retcon - the planet is still there and I'm sure it can be rebuilt, there was surely some survivors somewhere too. Also, with the whole timeless child plot line coming into things I imagine we'll see a lot of Gallifrey anyway! It might not be in the present, but I'm excited to see more of Gallifrey in the first place and dive deep into the origin of timelords. Unrelated but: in terms of the Master, I can buy that The Master learning the truth, or moreso the lie, made them insane again.

Doco56

I feel like I'm in the minority but I really like the decision to sideline Gallifrey and the Time Lords again. Let's just admit it, after Day of the Doctor there was so many opportunities to use it in an interesting way but Moffat didn't. The only thing we got from Gallifrey was Hell Bent, which I personally don't like at all. Now we have an opportunity to go far back into time lord lore with an interesting mystery. We could see a young Rassilion and Omega involved with the Timeless Child. Consider me on board

ElBilbo

If the plot point gets wasted and nothing ends up coming of it then I'll be upset but until we see what happens I will remain interested and optimistic.

How can I vote all three at once haha? It seems a bit like easy shock factor writing. On one hand it upsets me after building up deeply emotional moments like "how many children were on galifrey" stuff in DoTD only to give a 30 second shock!sad moment a few seasons later. If they properly explore this destruction/timeless child plot then I guess I'm intrigued. It's not like Galifrey was doing much plot wise in the bubble universe so I do understand why Chibnall did it. I definitely like the idea of some survivors or a chance of rebuilding. Anything to make it less like they've just killed off billions of people for no particular reason after making such a fuss of the loss the first time round. So yeah conflicted, interested and hopeful but mourning the normal galifreyans who have all died off screen

Moonraker

I think it’s probably best otherwise there’s a whole universe of time-lord’s about and the Doctor would eventually run into some.... at least it’s not a time war level event any time lord that was off world will still be out there

Ryan Shannon

I remember back when Day of the Doctor aired, people complained about the fact that it "ruined" The Doctor's arc of being last of the Time Lords because it turned out they were actually saved not destroyed. This feels like that all over again, I know some people who were complaining about Gallifrey being saved now complaining about Gallirey being destroyed being pretty funny. Also it's not a rehash or an undoing because while in the RTD, it was The Doctor who killed all the Time Lords and he had to live with that guilt, this time it was The Master and so its more of a vengeance storyline than a self loathing one. Also we don't know if The Master used The Moment to destroy Gallifrey, so he could have just traditionally bombed Gallifrey which means there may have been survivors who escaped. So it'd be cool if they have to rebuild Gallifrey again from nothing.

Calum

To be fair on the missy post or pre situation when a timelord regenerates their personality can do a 180 flip pretty quickly like with 11 and 12 so even if it is post missy, missy still ended up being good in the end. It still is the master though so no matter what he would go back to usual ways especially with a new body at some point.

At first I was a bit upset considering how much effort it took to bring back Galifrey in Day of the Doctor. But after a couple days I think it makes sense. DOTD was about the Doctor realizing he didn’t actually commit genocide but rather saved his race. Nothing has taken away from that development. It makes total sense The Master would have the capacity to destroy Galifrey if he was pushed enough. At this moment we don’t know if there are any survivors or what actually too place to cause that destruction. Plus the groundwork for this Timeless Child is interesting. Overrated I’m pleased and excited where season 12 goes.

I think its really interesting and a cool plot point to use. The only reason is I'm worried is because I'm not sure if Chibnall can pull it off. I'm not the biggest fan of his writing like most people it seems. I honnestly though the time war was underused in the earlier seasons. I kept on expecting that they were going to deal with it one day and when they did it might be a whole season long plot arch but instead, it was mostly over and done within the 50th-anniversary special. Then when that ended with the Doctor planning to search for Gallifrey "the long way round" I kept expecting that all of series 8 was going to be focused on the hunt for Gallifrey and again I was disappointed. It was barely even mentioned until the very end of the season. I think it was a huge missed opportunity for a season long arch.

I need to see how they handle it first. If it ends up being a copy of how the time war plot went, then it's just a waste.

To add to that, I’m loving Whittaker’s and Dahwan’s chemistry - it’s just so cool to see this relationship transcend eras with new actors.

Able

The founding Fathers' lie is such an old conspiracy theory about Rassilon, The Omega, The Other. The doctor being The Other in the comics isn't canon though.... yet.

Justin H'oman

I tend to look at every regeneration of the Doctor/new showrunner as a soft reboot. So I’m not upset that the Master and Galifrey are being reused, I want to see this new interpretation. It’s nice when a previous Doctors stories are referenced, but for me that’s just a treat - I don’t expect full cohesion with the work of a previous showrunner.

Able

I'm getting frustrated again already and I don't want to. Chibnall is doing what Chibnall does best: recycling storylines.

Axis 77

Really reaching for stories. Funny considering how they made such a point of not using the big fuss about not using old villains and places in the last season. In two episodes we've got the Master and Galifrey back thus making pretty much the entirety of Moffat's run redundant

James

Upset that it happened, but interested to learn more about what The Master learned to lead him to do it

SpeedyCat19

It feels like a lazy way to revert to the status quo of seasons the fans liked. And done so casually they are offscreened in a episode that wasn't about Gallifrey. Such laziness & backtracking annoys me.

Doby Greg

Kinda upset that day of the Doctor just got erased, but also more curious than anything
