Designing Fry. A Look Into My Character Design Process

"My most masculine character so far! 🙏 His name is Fry and he works at a breakfast cafe where he loves playfully flirting with his customers. His absolute favorite target and the bread and butter of his life being big girls! (Like Susie!) And he is not afraid to throw in some discounts or freebies to get them to return, even if that means he's making a loss!”

(Pictures go from newest to oldest!) So, I unexpectedly wanted to draw a follow up for the breakfast booty bit. I thought it would be fun to have a character saying it out loud, that they give out free breakfast to Susie when she wears a specific kind of leggings. I just didn't have a pre-existing character fitting for the role, and from the start I knew I wanted to go all in and make the character literally breakfast themed. Like, maybe that's why they like the bacon and eggs pattern on Susie's leggings? They see it as some kind of homage to themselves. Designing food creatures kinda is my thing anyways!

I wanted a bit of a masculine character based on typical breakfast foods, primarily bacon and eggs (Although you can see me experimenting a bit with waffles too!) The bacon ears were a part of my vision even before the first sketch, as I knew they would provide a strong silhouette, (the piece missing from his ear was taken by one of the fat bitches he simps for! Possibly Susie!) I wanted to give him a glass of orange juice for a hat, but his long ears didn't really give it space most of the time. I liked the look when it did work, most of the time it was just a bit too cluttered and inconsistent to be kept around. By the way, his body is primarily based on boiled eggs and is just as jiggly!

I was happy with him shape wise, but the coloring process was the most painful. I felt like the colors weren't working together and I couldn't really change them either since they represented certain food items that have their iconic colors. So I just accepted defeat with the mindset that he would just be a one time character. It's not like I had any other ideas involving him anyways.

Over time the colors kinda grew on me however. although the look still clearly isn't the most coherent. But maybe I will come up with ways to improve him along the way. I started looking for a name for him even before his design was fully finished. I pulled up a list of English male names and just started looking for something punny or something that would at least sound right for him. I had written some okayish names down but none of them felt perfect. I was starting to feel pretty desperate when I got a youtube notification from my beloved comfort channel: “Fry Em Up Gaming”. And then in a fraction of a second I just went: “That's it!” and just instantly ditched the name idea list I had been building up. And decided that he would be called Fry (Since you can FRY bacon and eggs!) The scary thing was that from that point on I was basically locked to the bacon and eggs heavy look to keep the name fitting.

I find it a bit amusing how I designed a brand new character essentially just for this one gag while many of my proper half finished character ideas are just rotting in my idea folder. But hey, now I have a chubby chaser feeder character/a chill dominant guy Incase I ever happen to need a character like that!
