You're not "expected to know this shit". If you do, great. If you don't you'll learn what you need to know about the character slowly through it's actions... Do you think every time Orphan or Spoiler show up for a few random panels in a random Batman comic that they're re-explained for people who don't know them. You learn the relevant stuff about them for that story through the actions, and the next time you run into that character you'll know a bit more... The show treats the DC roster just like the comics... Some people will recognize they're doing a Geo-Force and Terra origin in the very first episode, as soon as they see the focus is on the Markovian royal family. Others will learn about them through the story and the reveals... the show works either way, and it doesn't matter on which side you fall... just ignore the "what you don't know X" comments. Edit: Guy Gardner in this episde is a good example, Eric clearly knew him and his personality and knew what to expect, while the other guys didn't seem to know much about him, but the show very quickly shows him as the annoying arrogant jock Green Lantern.

It is fine if you guys do not know a lot about Darkseid or his underlings yet. Don’t worry the series will explore a character or plot that is important to the current season it is on. It doesn’t just expect you to know Darkseid is and you are out of luck. It is just if you have that knowledge it is a little Easter Egg or wink to DC comic fans. The only thing you should be wary of is that some things introduced in this series will not be resolved in one season or not can could carry over to another season.

THANK YOU!!!! I mean they can't remember things from the very episode that they watch. It's a DC universe show so of course they'll use characters that not everyone will know.

It's actually fine to not get everything right away.. this whole season is a giant setup and everything will make relevant sense as episodes go by...
