Melron Reacts: Doctor Who 11x10 Finale Poll!

Did this finale feel like a good bookend to this season?

Comments

I think this season had a lot of good stand-alone episodes - but for me personally, the lack of a at least somewhat connecting story arc kind of hurt the overall feel for me. It doesn't feel like a finale, it felt like a part 2 to the first episode's part 1. And that would have been fine if that was what it was. So yeah. In summary, I thought it was a decent follow-up to the first episode, but it didn't feel like a book-end to the season, because that's not what it was - but I suppose that's as much of a finale one can get when it's stand-alone episodes all season.

your reactions were the best thing about this underwhelming season

Nick Earl

This whole season sucked. Sorry.

Nick Earl

There was no weight or importance to any of it for me. There was 2 standout episodes for me with 8 "episode 3 of 22" mixed in. Also needs more episodes. There was no room for multi-part episodes with only 8-10 slots to work with.

Derek Willerton

I think it was a good book end but I don’t think the finale should feel like a book end but rather a wrap up if everything up till that point.

William Tanner

It isn’t my favourite episode of the series, but I enjoyed it and think it wrapped up the little character arcs up nicely. It wasn’t the big grand, bombastic type finale that modern viewers are used, but it’s not trying to be either. Much like this series as a whole, it’s been aiming for a more casual, classic (specifically Hartnell) vibe.

Dale Denton

It feels like an experiment that's not done so well, I'm hopeful for the future, I suspect the delay for Series 12 is due to some hasty re-writes. As to Jodie, they need to indulge in The Doctor's darker side, which is the side I always found the most compelling and really isn't the side they should throw away. It just doesn't feel like the Doctor Who I know and love, the pieces are all there they just need to fit them together again.

The Doctor

Bored with epic, grandiose finales. So happy with this change of pace. I'm on board with 13 taking me to a sweeter, more wondrous, more magical universe.

Tumbili

The thirteenth doctor does have a theme and I love it. It's called 'thirteen' and was released in full after the finale. I do really like the title theme as well, the first since the 70s to preoperly return to the sound of the original. There hasn't been all that much 'epic' music this year but that fits with what they were going for.

Hugh Burke

It didn’t feel like a finale, for me it felt like just another episode. I think because there was so no season arc leading to something in the finale is what made it fall short for me. It was a good episode though, just didn’t feel like a series finale episode.

Cameron Mason

It was enough of a wrap up for me with the final completion of the villain from episode one and the fistbumps from earlier. Now while it was enough, it wasn't as good as it could have been. The stenza mentioned in episode two would have made it better to deal with the whole race and Tim Shaw as a midseason bit. Plus, a few more failed fist bumps, more Stanza research along the way, and an ongoing arc for Yaz would have made it better.

Although I really enjoyed the season, I think that the lack of a seasonal arc (bad wolf, crack in the walls etc.) really hurt it. The fact that there was no big seasonal mystery to solve or an arc to resolve made this episode seem like any other, instead of a finale. With all that said, I still thoroughly enjoyed the episode and found the villain to be actually threatening. Can’t wait for the new year’s special

Bejo

The finale was marginally less meh than the rest of the season. Honestly, every episode felt like a filler episode, there was nothing interesting or exciting about them and there was very little character development other than Graham and Ryans relationship, which I liked. Disappointed that we didn't get that "I'm the Doctor" moment. Not at all excited for next season, only marginally excited for the New Years special and that only because of who the trailer implies are going to be the antagonists.

Sougent

I think works as a nice book end. The "arc" this season was not an alien MacGuffin or menace, it was emotional arcs and growth. In 12's final speech he reminded the next Doctor to never be cruel or cowardly, and that hate is always foolish and love is always wise. You see that in 13's temperament and you see that in the emotional arc that Graham and Ryan went through this season. They experienced loss and grief and the season was about coming to terms with that and eventually conquering it and not letting it get the better of them. Many of the episodes this season dealt with hatred in all its forms and people losing themselves to their emotions. 13 tried to never fly off the handle and the larger theme of the season tied together at the end when Graham managed to not let his hate get the better of him.

Teek

It just was what it was.

LKG

I think it was pretty good. I don't think it was a terrible story to use as a finale, even if it wasn't as 'epic' as other finales. It had some really fun bits. Graham got to channel John McClane, for example. :D I've gone with 'yes', though I'd have preferred a middle ground option. It was better than 'Last Of The Time Lords'. :D

Seeing Mark Addy was very cool. And it was all downhill from there. An underwhelming finale to an underwhelming season. It's twice as bitter to me since the show's never looked better. one great new companion (the other two I'm still on the fence about), and a new Doctor I could really like if she were written well. Can we put a little of next season's budget towards hiring some writers, please?

Tasker Thorn

Definitely not in finale expectations. Would've been better to go further back past Tzim Shaw and have a more recognisable villain

KieranT

For THIS series, I guess so. This finale sums up series 11, dull and uninspired. For any other series this finale would be incredibly underwhelming. It was a decent episode of Doctor Who, but not a finale.

Azmat Mahmood

This finale was so great in my opinion. I really enjoy this series even if it isn't as good as others.

Supermonaman

Without a proper arc it's hard for it to feel like a proper finale

it felt more like a mid series adventure than a finale. I knew the show would go down hill with Chibnall as showrunner. not even excited for this new year special either.

Monty Magpie

With how this series was designed to have mostly standalone episodes with no big arc, I honestly assumed it would feel less like a finale than it actually did. It was as finale-y as it could've gotten without an arc. Also can I say, I missed seeing the Earth get affected by an alien attack so that was nice

Sure, this finale works for this season. Not the best season overall though. Even though I didn't hate it, I feel I'm going to struggle to remember it in like 5 years.

Lono

The finale would be regarded as “the dull episode” at best, in any other series of Doctor Who.
