I find it impossible to sympathize with anyone that has a racist kill them all mentality no matter how tragic their backstory is.

2018-11-02 21:35:55 +0000 UTCI loved getting agent liberty's backstory and I dont think sam witwer gets enough credit for his craft. Also, to answer aaron's question about why kara's helmet doesn't show her face, its because melissa benoist was busy doing broadway and therefore unavailable to film some of the first half of the season and the person in the suit is her double
2018-11-02 13:59:45 +0000 UTCIt reminded me a lot of the opening of Batman v Superman. Showing the 'other side' of the story. A hero isn't always a hero in everyone's eyes, combined with everything that happened his story was a very good one. But I don't sympathize with him

2018-11-01 21:45:47 +0000 UTCI thought it was a good story and sympathized with him, but didn't agree with his actions. It wise to show a flashback episode since we got to see 2-3 years worth of his life to see the gradual change in him.

2018-11-01 05:03:03 +0000 UTCI sympathize with him and everything he's lost, but that doesn't excuse his bigoted behavior. He could easily find a better way. That being said it's a very well told story and very reflective of everything going on in the world today. And, Sam brings a lot to the role. His performance was fantastic.
2018-11-01 02:40:10 +0000 UTCNo sympathy. It’s been a rough week-and-change to be Jewish and trans, and I have no tears left for a white supremacist. But it is a well told story of how easy it is for some people to go full-on tiki-torch-and-white-hood bigot, because they blame people who have it as rough as they do or rougher for their problems, while the Luthors of the world laugh all the way to the bank.

2018-11-01 01:35:18 +0000 UTCAlso the Dad said "you're human this planet belongs to you". This planet does not belong to us. We merely occupy it with many more different organisms.

2018-10-31 19:30:23 +0000 UTCI sympathize with him. Also really glad to see Sam Witwer in another Superman property, since he was Davis Bloom in Smallville season 8.

2018-10-31 19:24:15 +0000 UTCI liked his story and I did feel bad for him here and there but overall I don't really pity him or his actions. It's like saying that this murderer isn't so bad just cause he had a sad childhood. If his father had just started using nth metal in his factories, they wouldn't have suffered money wise and when their house was destroyed they could have bought a new one. It was when they refused to adapt with the times that they lost out and blaming aliens for that was silly. If it had been some sort of new metal that another country found that was better than steel, would he have reacted the same way?
2018-10-31 03:12:44 +0000 UTCI do sympathize with him but it definitely doesn't excuse his actions.

2018-10-31 02:25:09 +0000 UTCEnjoyed the episode and the different viewpoint. Showing us how the villain basically got to be a villain and I understand why and yes I sympathise. I don’t want him killed as the villain. I would rather he becomes good again
BarryAllen1310
2018-10-31 00:54:05 +0000 UTCHe has become a scumbag, but he was a good man, who lost so much to the alien events, and having to face Supergirl who is meant to protect everyone, the DEO posing as the FBI, the media, Lena, and many others constantly rush to protect aliens while he losses more and more without aid. He is evil, and i blame him for his actions but i dont blame him for being driven this far.
Melly
2018-10-30 23:19:41 +0000 UTCI can sympathise with him at the start. But eventually he starts being the reason the bad things are happening with the firing from his job. Plus it's amazing that everytime aliens attacked he's been affected 😂
2018-10-30 22:42:15 +0000 UTCThis episode was very good, I liked the story and sympathize with him up to a point !! once he starts hurting and killing i lose that sympathy but do feel sorry for him which that just shows how amazingly Sam Witwer plays this character !
Donna Borg
2018-10-30 22:30:48 +0000 UTCDefinitely number 2. I like him and can understand him, his anger, his frustration. That makes me frustrated because what can he do? Well, hurting and killing aliens isn't the way but he felt so powerless and thats what really stuck with me.
2018-10-30 20:26:46 +0000 UTCI do sympathize with his feelings. I understand his frustration. It's a story we don't usually focus on. Although J'on, Supergirl and the gang do deal with the main issue at hand, they don't really stop to think about the ripple affect of their heroism. Sometimes it has a negative affect on certain individuals even though their intentions are to save the world and do good. For Agent Liberty, it was more of a snowball affect that he went through over time with a string of bad luck attached that involved (for the most part) aliens

2018-10-30 19:40:38 +0000 UTCI love this story, episode, and character. He could be one of the best villains in the Arrowverse. I just hope they don't eff it up like they did with Reign.
Fajen Thygia
2018-10-30 19:02:34 +0000 UTCIt doesn't necessarily excuse how he acts today, but it does make a lot of sense. I find it most interesting that he started as a full supporter for these aliens, but after a series of unfortunate events, he began to have his views altered very similar to some real life scenarios. I don't really like the political heavy side of Supergirl, but I do appreciate they at least are showing both sides without an obvious sense of biased.

2018-10-30 18:36:59 +0000 UTCOf course I did! Kill the roaches!! Show no mercy!!! EARTH FIRST!!!!

2018-10-30 18:12:56 +0000 UTCI liked his story, but I thought his personality kinda changed too quick after he got stabbed, even after the things that happened to his family

2018-10-30 17:49:57 +0000 UTCI like the story as a warning about the dangers of radicalization. And how sometimes even regular people can fall prey to it with toxic ideas and when in vulnarable point in lives and that those think can build up overtime. I just hope people don't take it as a reasonable way to react or the story of a misunderstood good guy. And no redemption arc.
Doby Greg
2018-10-30 17:48:28 +0000 UTCI like the story, I sympathize with him, but I dislike the title of the episode. I know "Man of Steel" is referencing the characters backstory, but his story is too tragic to put him in relation with Superman.
Joel
2018-10-30 17:32:01 +0000 UTCI love the backstory and i sympathize with him. Just a regular guy caught in the crossfire driven to madness.
I Am Groot
2018-10-30 17:29:19 +0000 UTCI really liked the story and I did feel bad for him. Until a point. When he started attacking and killing others, my sympathy went towards his victims instead.
Marvelous JJ
2018-10-30 17:26:28 +0000 UTCYeah, sure. J’onn should have stayed and helped put out the fire. When in the time he was doing so, 1) hundreds more families could lose their homes 2) those same families could DIE or 3) the world could...you know...end. They should have been damn grateful to him for saving their lives.
Ragnarok
2018-10-30 16:52:49 +0000 UTCI liked his back story, and sympathise with him, especially when John just left their house to burn. But he decided to be fearful and pure hate towards the aliens, when he could have gone about things so much more differently.
Cameron Mason
2018-10-30 15:53:52 +0000 UTCTruth, it's hard but you gotta adapt 🤷🏾♂️
DrWizarrd
2018-10-30 15:17:20 +0000 UTCI feel really bad for him and his family for everything they went through, and I sympathize with their situation, but he clearly made some really awful choices to embraced hate and fear
Jeanette C
2018-10-30 15:11:51 +0000 UTCI sympathize with him, but don't empathize with him. They did a great job of showing why someone would take the turn he did, but it doesn't make him right.
Darth Skhorrn
2018-10-30 15:08:42 +0000 UTCThis episodes is the best of Supergirl so far it showed very intricately how someone upstanding can slip into such a place of racism. It isn't just that he lost his house and dad, it's that Alex spoke to him in a way that she understands but to his point of view he wasn't even part of the riot but she assumed he was, and how John said he was safe but from their perspective it looked like an alien beating up a humanoid. All these little things nudging him in just the right moments of his life adding up to him being a racist in the end.
William Tanner
2018-10-30 15:04:36 +0000 UTCSo is dad dies and loses his house thats it I feel they could of made us feel for him more or make him lose more
Matthew
2018-10-30 14:50:18 +0000 UTCI don't really sympathise with him but I understand how he got to be the way he is. In a lot of ways he reminds me a lot of a middle class Lex
Reece Hart
2018-10-30 14:39:49 +0000 UTCThere is a difference between understanding someone’s stance and agreeing with someone’s stance. I understand why Ben feels the way he does and sympathize with his hardships. However, I don’t agree with his path of “liberty.”
2018-10-30 14:34:59 +0000 UTCI can't symphatize with him because all of this could have been avoided if he and his dad just stopped living in the past. I do feel bad about their house thou. John really just left them there with a burning home and said "You're safe now
Gezno
2018-10-30 14:19:17 +0000 UTCSo I liked the story, and I sympathize, and I don't. There were a lot of back and forths for me. On one hand, I can understand the hardship he went through, especially when he was initially trying to defend them when his dad and coworkers attacked them. But on the other hand, seeing how he treated the students, for example, and the disdain he showed for them, and then killing one. He'd obviously lose me.
Ian Vega
2018-10-30 13:54:00 +0000 UTCThey had to rush it for obvious reasons (most likely a time constraint), and I feel that make it seem like he transitioned into this hateful person too quickly. But I do appreciate this perspective and how it's so easy to become radicalized.
Roberto Cerrillo
2018-10-30 13:38:52 +0000 UTCAlso, the scene where John destroys his house is hilarious, "You're safe now!"
Able
2018-10-30 13:33:54 +0000 UTCI think they did a good job depicting how an average person can let their anger and misfortune twist into hate and blaming other people. I don't think he's justified though.
Able
2018-10-30 13:32:57 +0000 UTCI do like like his story but it felt like he went from good to bad super quick also what happened to his wife is she ok with it. Would've been more convincing if he lost her and/or their son too
