2018-10-20 20:55:33 +0000 UTCThe Titans first appeared 100 years ago (as stated early in the season) and the wall "appeared out of nowhere" (paraphrasing a bit). The 100 year gap references to the 100 years of peace after humanity's survivors retreated behind the three walls.

2018-10-19 13:58:15 +0000 UTCThe great thing about AoT is that you WILL get all of your answers eventually, even answers to questions you didn't think to ask. You just have to be patient. Especially during season 1, since you're seeing the story from the POV of the people who really know nothing.
